SEC tiebreaker rules for 2025 season
The SEC will use six potential tie-breakers for the 2025 season in this order until the tie is broken:
Step 1: Head-to-head competition: This is the easiest tie-beaker. Did Team A beat Team B?
Step 2: Record vs. all common conference opponents.
Step 3: Record against highest (best) placed common conference opponent in the conference standings, and proceeding through the conference standings among tied teams.
Step 4: Cumulative conference winning percentages of all conference opponents among tied teams.
Step 5: Capped relative total scoring margin vs. all conference opponents among the tied teams.
Step 6: Random draw.
So, if OU were to beat Bama, & Texas won out, Texas would win tie-breaker vs Georgia & A&M based on “Step 1”. And they would win tie-breaker w/ Bama based on “Step 2”. If Ole Miss beats Florida tonight, they would have tie-breaker over UT based on “Step 2”. Maybe im missing something, but wouldn’t this mean Texas vs Somebody in SEC Championship Game?
Perhaps the biggest challenge is the fam talking Brazilian all-you-can-eat brunch next Saturday. Consuming that much cow and pig just hours before a night-game alcoholic consumption of Dionysian proportions could be a recipe for disaster
It’s an opportunity I’m not expecting these Longhorns to cease……unless the pass-blocking performance against Vanderbilt was a show of growth and improvement in pass pro, and not just an exposure of Vanderbilt’s lack of athletes on the defensive side of the ball or better play by the unit in front of a home crowd
In addition to winning at Oregon, Indiana has won most of their games convincingly. Last year I had questions, but this year I think they’ve been legit
People will “point to the protection Manning got vs Vanderbilt…….” because it’s a legit consideration for the Georgia game. Georgia has not been the Georgia team of recent years in many ways, but their lines on both side of the ball remain legit. It’s true that our line, backs, WRs blocked admirably vs Vanderbilt on Saturday, providing pass pro we just haven’t seen from this offense this season. The question is whether that’s a symptom of the kind of athletes Vandy had on defense, or actual signs of improvement in our pass pro going into Athens. Give me a night game ESPN
