Houston Rec's
It's great. We're actually getting it take-out tonight.

Houston Rec's
Another Montrose/Museum District resident here... If you're getting a burger in the area, the correct answer is Toasted Coconut. And I agree with Nonno's for pizza, especially with the kids as they have some arcade games. A lot of the suggestions in this thread are not kid friendly (DaMarco, Amore, La Jardinier, MF Sushi) Candente is great for TexMex close by. Just get to Pinkerton's or Pit Room early-ish and you should be fine. Truth will probably take too long to wait.

Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, and Other Good Stuff
It certainly wasn't near the best set of his I've seen. No Vampires, Elephant, or Speed Trap Town. Guess he just doesn't play Cover Me Up anymore - didn't play it at all in Austin and hasn't played it since February. I really enjoyed the new songs, and their full band arrangements were great and sounded like they've been playing them together for years. And maybe I'm in the minority here, but Danko/Manuel is soooo boring, especially as a show closer? Yikes. Saw him walking solo up south Congress on Saturday with a STAG shopping bag in hand.

Ticket prices have gone up a lot, but blame the artists and their agents, not Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster exists to take the blame for ticket prices with their "fees". Artists and their agents choose the prices though. I paid $59 per ticket for MMJ this morning for the Houston show, so I can't complain, but I have no idea why they would be so drastically different between markets.

Things not going well for Facebook
Yep, my brother-in-law in Austin got an email at 6:00am this morning that he was let go. Sucks.

New Orleans Food and Drink Thread
Oh I agree, the vibe of the place was not my taste at all, but the food was excellent. Clancy's food wasn't quite as good, but the overall experience took it over the top for me.

New Orleans Food and Drink Thread
The wife and I just did a couple nights without the kids to celebrate our birthdays. Stayed at Hotel Saint Vincent in the LGD. Pricey, and our room was pretty small, but it was very nice. The weather was amazing and made walking down Magazine from our hotel to shops etc very enjoyable. Eats: Turkey and the Wolf - fried bologna sandwich - very good GW Fins - lobster dumplings, firecracker tuna tacos, scalibut, seared yellowfin tuna, sweet corn spoonbread, salty malty ice cream pie - everything was outstanding and lived up to the hype San Lorenzo, breakfast at the hotel - french omelette, buttermilk pancakes Beignets at Cafe Du Monde - touristy, but whatever, I'd actually never been. Don't need to go back. Mahony's - fried shrimp po-boys(maybe the best I've had), red beans and rice, onion rings - a local friend told me this was his fave for po-boys Clancy's - fried oysters w/ brie, fried eggplant, gumbo, fried gulf fish w/ lump crab meat and meuniere sauce, risotto w/ lobster and wild mushrooms - one of my favorite meals I've had in a very long time. Ate and drank too much and had to go back to the hotel and pass out after we closed down the place. Also went to Preservation Hall, Arnaud's French 75 Bar, Bacchanal, Chapel Club, Jewel of the South Excellent trip and can't wait to go back.

It's fine. Sound is actually pretty good. My 4th time seeing a show there and I've only been on the GA floor section. It's a very rare size venue for being indoors, huge GA floor, not a theater, and 5,000 cap - I was in the way back for Vampire Weekend, couldn't get close to the stage, but got right up close for Isakov/Rateliff, Haim, and Charley Crockett.

I went to the show here in Houston last night. Both acts were fantastic. I was more excited to see Gregory, but Nathaniel, his band, and production were great.

What's the Foo up to?
He's got another confession to make. But seriously, it's pretty shocking he didn't have a vasectomy, right?

No Houston, but 3 nights in Austin, Dallas, and a Lubbock show?!?!

Bourbon
I usually just go with Rittenhouse for making Manhattans and rye cocktails. Good price and easy to find.

Yeah, that was the one festival lineup that I thought was really impressive this year. Plus Dawes, Lord Huron, Avett Brothers, Lucinda, and Bahamas. Probably should've gone to that one.

The wife and I stayed at Les Bains and Hotel Des Grands Boulevards on our honeymoon - I highly recommend both of these hotels.

Saw Coldplay last night in Houston on the floor at NRG and it was pretty fun. Obviously not everyones cup of tea, but their production/lights/etc. is about as big as it gets. I can't think of a bigger band on the planet that got started after the 90's - so yes, they can sell out stadiums around the world. I was thinking last night that they are probably the last true "band" that can consistently fill up stadiums. Are there any other bands (not pop/rap/country artists) that got started in the last 20 years that might reach that level? I know Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Muse all do pretty damn well, but not quite Coldplay level, globally.

MMJ was so damn good and I loved the setlist. Still can't believe how close you can get to the stage on the White Oak lawn. Probably because it was an older crowd, but I just walked right up on Jim's side of the stage and was about 5 people back. I think the trick with parking is to buy Lot D ahead of time. It's a little bit more of a walk, but there was no line to get into the lot when I pulled up like there was for Lot B.

90s to 10's country music star
Agree. No one should have a problem with Lucinda on a jukebox, and Tim McGraw would not fly.

Those Collin Raye songs couldn't be further from what the OP was asking. Man, I hate those songs.

Tell me about New York City
Ok so some of our meals are being shuffled around a bit. Has anyone been to Peasant? The wife has heard good things and thinks it looks great and wants to go there tomorrow night. I was also able to add The Tavern at Gramercy Tavern tomorrow night from Resy notify, so we're deciding between those two. We moved our King rez to Friday night instead of sushi. Sticking with Frenchette on Saturday. For now.
