Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
Thank you. Two days until spring break so that will hopefully buy the state some time to make a decision.

I run the school so that’s not really an option, unfortunately.

Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
It’s definitely an ongoing conversation at my elementary school. Ultimately the state is going to have to have a funding mechanism for districts that shut down in Texas. We get funded based on attendance and 85% of that goes to salaries.

Texas 2020 general election
Anybody feeling more confident in some down ballot races (Texas house) now that its likely Biden will be at the top of the ballot? I’m not a biden fan but I could see this working out well for some Texas Dems.

Texas 2020 general election
Texas Dems suing to restore straight ticket voting because it discriminates against minorities by creating longer lines in their areas.

New report finds only 16% of millennials qualify as ‘financially literate’ (& less than half of everyone else)
Financial literacy/personal finance begins being taught in Texas in the 3rd grade. It’s relatively new so millennials and non-Texans probably didn’t get it. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference in 10 years. They cover debt, credit, interest, responsible uses of money, etc. This was on staar last year: Ms Patterson works for a company. Which factor would most likely affect the amount of money she gets paid by the company? A. The amount of money Ms Patterson has to pay in bills. B. The size of Ms Patterson’s family. C. The amount of money Ms Patterson saves every month. D. The work experience Ms Patterson has. E. Her company calculates a mans salary and simply pays her 80 cents on the dollar. Ok, I added the last one but it’s interesting what they ask 7 and 8 year olds.

Texas 2020 general election
Maybe I’m different but I see it as irresponsible to pick a candidate when I know nothing about either person running, especially in a primary where they are in the same party. I skipped a lot of races on my ballot for this reason.

Texas 2020 general election
Not very encouraging. Hoping to see a couple of things in the general election: 1. Republicans have a bunch of olds that vote in every election, including dog catcher. Dems want a shot to take trump out and will show up when he’s on the ballot against a dem. 2. This primary was weird and fragmented with nobody starting any type of movement. Hopefully Biden will be riding a wave of anti trump momentum into the general. 3. It’s going to be tough because trumps people WILL show up.

Texas 2020 general election
I voted for Donna and have been impressed with her message and engagement on social media. Her quick tv AD looked robotic imo. Hopefully she wins and works this out because carter always has effective ads. He’s always in a cowboy hat with a truck not doing a damn thing while optimistic music plays in the background. He’s such a senile old fuck.

Texas 2020 general election
Williamson county will be an interesting one to watch. Trump won it 52-42 in 2016. It seems to have moved much more to the left in the last 4 years. There will be over 200k votes so it’s a big one to at least break even in.

Texas 2020 general election
Hillary won bexar county 54.5 to 41. Hillary won Harris county 54.2 to 41.8. Those are pretty good margins. The margin would actually be wider if with higher turnout as democrats are more likely to be have their vote suppressed.

Jewish kid kicked off Anderson HS robotics team for making anti-Semetic joke
I’m going to sue Tom Brady alleging he is harassing me because Gisele doesn’t want to have sex with him anymore after taking my 10 inch dick in her ass. Surly posters: “seems legit”

Sure are a lot of people willing to hear one side of a lawsuit and make up their mind about what happened.

Poll for Switchers (people who were with Pete or Liz)
I already voted for Liz but for the purposes of this poll voted “was Liz, now Bernie”. I don’t particularly love Bernie but dislike biden and have concerns about his mental faculties. I honestly don’t think he could make it through a term at the rate he is deteriorating.

Texas 2020 general election
I’m in western Wilco and voted yesterday. It was quite busy and the lady working said that it had been that way all day. Props to the workers for running a really friendly/efficient machine. It was hard to tell whether more R or D ballots had been given out because they had gone through so many sticker pages of each. In general I’ll take high turnout as it favors Dems. Wife and I both felt strange walking up and requesting a D ballot after spending so many years on the other side. I’ll fire the surly libtard pac thread up again after we know who wins the primaries. Let’s see if we can’t just swing a close general election.

Brave cop takes another hard case off the street
Elementary school administrator here. Yes, even young kids can cause a severe amount of damage to property, other students, and even staff. Calling the cops is typically not the right answer. Cuffs are never the right answer. Even with students in a state of crisis being removed from school directly to a mental health facility, we have never had to use cuffs. People need to understand that there are two very different sets of laws governing schools and their students. Special education and general education. Let’s say a student is in special education with an emotional disturbance diagnosis. This student cannot be suspended for more than 10 days in a school year without a manifestation determination hearing to determine if their behavior was a result of their disability. Guess what......every possible behavior is due to the disability and that kid is ours for the rest of the year. The only way that kid is leaving my campus is if they have an offense classified as non-discretionary such as bringing drugs or a weapon to school. We can physically contain a kid using SAMA techniques, but only if they are an immediate danger to themselves or others. Walking around and smashing computers? Nope, doesn’t cut it and it’s a fast way to get fired. You know what my only option is? Calling the cops when the level of property destruction gets to be over $100. If the kid is under 10, even they can’t do much about it. Punch a kid/teacher in the face? Spend the afternoon with me and they will be back in class tomorrow. Special education laws add great protection for some of our most at risk students. However, they have gone too far in protecting some really egregious behavior and allowing it to happen every day, year after year. That’s not helping the special education child develop a sense of reality about how people will deal with that behavior outside of school. Im going to cut this post off so that it doesn’t get into TLDR territory but I’m happy to answer questions.

Texas 2020 general election
This. I was still weighing my options until a few days ago. Still plan to vote early but wanted to see how a few things shook out in the presidential primary first.

Elizabeth Warren 2020
When should we expect polling that will include the debate and its potential bump? Interested to see if it translated to anything. Also and word on a fundraising bump? I am constantly blasted with Bloomberg and Bernie commercials.
