The fishing down here has been insanely good this year. The sailfish bite is on fire and it is CLOSE in - some days we are fishing as little as 12 miles from the dock. Our last few trips have resulted in 24,24,18,29 and 35 releases. The last few days we’ve done a little sail fishing, released a blue marlin, a 60 pound dorado plus some smaller ones and then targeted tuna for a change. We hardly ever do that but we had some guys that really wanted tuna to take home. I had forgotten how good the tuna fishing is here. Fish are 100, 150, 150, and 176 (weighed).
^ yup that’s the best budget option. For purely tuna the best boat down here is Good Day. I think they can be booked through the marina https://marinapezvela.com/fishing/. Steve Hoyland is a buddy who owns a center console and can do a little of every kind of fishing (tuna, inshore, billfish)he has one of the best captains around 832-526-4917 July can be rainy. And rough. Or not. All the above are smaller boats and there are a couple of great larger boats available if you want to be more comfortable. You’ll pay a lot more. I should be down around July 1st, at least we are shooting for that date. I’ll take y’all if I’m there.
The gambling is definitely a part of it, but yes he actually fishes and I have heard he is pretty good. It makes sense because the better anglers all have excellent refelexes.
Shotgun start at 7am. Can’t wait. We are feeling pretty good about our chances but many of the top teams in the world are here so everybody feels pretty good this morning. We will stick with our usual plan of trying to find our own fish, rather than fishing where the majority of the fleet will be fishing. It’s a gamble because you can get way behind pretty quick doing that, but it can also payoff big time and has worked well for us in the past. The total payout of almost 3 million is a new world record for an all release billfish tournament.
Dream big. This is Michael Jordan’s boat that was out fishing by us yesterday. It’s a 15 million dollar 82’ Bayliss called Catch 23. I waved but I think he was still inside. He’s in town for the Pelagic Rockstar tournament we are all fishing this weekend. It is the highest paying all release tournament in the world.
Then I suggest a thread title change to “CDC is losing me”. Also if CDC is the one limiting our budget to go after players whether they are recruits or portal it is news to me.
They expanded the mini price grocery store here in the marina. There is basically no need to leave the property anymore other than the farmers market just down the street on Friday/Saturday and to go up to Manuel Antonio restaurants when we get tired of the ones in the marina.
They did a really good job on the build. 40 units, fully furnished including all kitchen items, concierge desk open 6 am - 6pm, big pool, sauna, cold plunge, weight room, massage room, media room for movies. Honestly I haven’t taken many photos but these were the renderings pre-construction and it looks exactly like the pictures.
I still haven’t found anything on their menu that isn’t excellent. Great seafood and the best burger in CR. It’s amazing that they do all of that from the tiny kitchen.
Back in Costa Rica to begin the season. Yesterday was a marlin day, today was sailfish. Fish again tomorrow and then we have the Flor de Cana tournament Friday and Saturday. We are here through mid-April and I am expecting us to fish the most days we ever have this year.

Yeah I still can’t figure out why we didn’t go get a PG in the portal. I understand we couldn’t/wouldn’t be able to get a great player but surely there was some above average, experienced PG at a mid-major that would have jumped at the chance to come to Texas.
Defense definitely needs to improve and I’m extremely disappointed in Mark and Traore so far. But we are much more fun to watch so there’s that. This team is definitely capable of making the tournament.
The whole season is hard to explain. The Ohio State game was extremely winnable if Arch plays decent. We outgained them something like 330 to 200. And then we were utter dog shit against UTEP, Kentucky, and most of the MSU game.
Nothing crazy. So far Cafe Un Deux Trois (twice, one meal once for drinks great bartender), food tour of Little Italy and Chinatown, La Grande Boucherie pre theater dinner, Book of Mormon (not impressed), pizza one meal of course, lots of pubs. We’ve done a lot of walking/shopping. Tonight is Nobu 57 and then head home tomorrow. Really enjoying the trip.
@PenelopeWitherspoon we have hit a couple of your bar spots, thanks. Jimmy’s Corner is a block from us so we have been twice.
