Русский корабль - иди нахуй
This keeps getting repeated but it is inaccurate. Security assurances can mean a lot of things. In the Budapest Memorandum the security assurance basically meant "we will respect your sovereignty and will not attack you". That's a lot different than "we will defend you". If you want a longer explanation of our "assurances" click here

Русский корабль - иди нахуй
First thought on the “twist” is when the Chinese government references “territorial integrity” they’re reiterating they believe Taiwan is and should be part of China.

Jimbo 2023: Watch.The.Tape.
Earlier this year they wrote an article that questioned the authenticity of the story of the 12th man: https://www.thebatt.com/life-arts/12th-man-rewritten/article_8b1b8a32-5928-11ec-bf3c-8b8c15dc9b22.html

Any word on how this is being portrayed by the Russian media?

Russia and American elections, now featuring radical republicans as co-stars
Supposedly Clinton and Putin actually discussed this, though I doubt either side was truly sincere or that Putin had noble intentions when he raised the subject.

Fuck Big 12 refs
Curious about that as well. The discussion between two of the refs continued on through the TV timeout.

Oklahoma @ Kansas
You're correct - my bad.
-
Oklahoma @ Kansas
It was close, but he definitely crossed the line of scrimmage before getting pushed back.

Oklahoma @ Kansas
Does it not matter that he previously ran across the line of scrimmage? I thought once you went past the LOS you couldn't have a "forward pass".

9.13.21 Coach Sark press conference 11am
I wasn't saying it doesn't matter how he reacted to the loss; I was saying people shouldn't rush to judgement based upon the press conference (especially since he acknowledged mistakes and didn't come across as defensive a la Mack). What matters is how he addresses the team and the mistakes behind closed doors.

9.13.21 Coach Sark press conference 11am
Exactly. And for all the comparisons to Saban, I'd be curious to see his press conference responses and demeanor when Alabama lost to Louisiana Monroe at home in his first year at Alabama. It's a lot easier (and more effective) to rip your players after winning by a large margin against a patsy; a different response is required when your players just got publicly humiliated (and they know it).

What the fuck is wrong with you, Houston?
I agree - most criminals might be stupid but this one doesn't add up. The fact that a police officer was killed and that it occurred on one of Fertitta's properties leads me to believe the culprits will definitely be caught, but I wouldn't be surprised if their punishment gets administered outside a court of law.

Tell Me About Texas a&m
That article is from 1974; a lot has changed since then. TCU opposed Tech joining the SWC in 1958 because they considered everything west of DFW their territory. And with no Dallas Cowboys until 1960, I think he's generally right that it was common for people in west Texas with no real ties to any colleges to be TCU fans.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting
This. Say what you want about Sark's ability to close but after years of UT coaches (and months for the current staff) having to counter the SEC pitch, the move only affirms what the SEC coaches have been selling to our recruits. Until the timeline moves up from 2025, the announcement might actually make recruiting harder.

Surly Horns Burnt Ends NIL Program- How YOU can help Texas with the NIL right now!
In for $10. PayPal worked, CC didn't. Weird how one works for some but not others. Where it's coming from doesn't matter though - it's where it's going. Great work!

Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting
I don't see it that way. The $9.95ers are merely a vehicle in the transaction. Someone already suggested it, but we (Surly) should be doing the same. Perhaps you meant bootlegging?

Explain to me what killed the SWC?
Yes, Arkansas correctly saw that the SWC wasn't viable because of its small TV footprint and the strong presence of the NFL in Texas. UT saw it too, and UT officials even told Arkansas officials they needed to go first to provide cover for UT to make a move since politically UT couldn't be the school to blow up the conference. The SEC's courtship of UT has been going on for over 30 years.
-
Explain to me what killed the SWC?
All anyone claiming Texas killed the SWC needs to know is Arkansas wanted Texas to join them in the move to the SEC in 1990, and so did the SEC. Anyone claiming Arkansas was trying to get away from evil UT doesn't know what they're talking about.

Realignment talk not going away
Probably because they aggy'd up their initial meeting announcement/agenda by putting the wrong date on it. Agendas need to be posted 72 hours in advance, so this could just be the same meeting they intended to hold tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if there's an announcement that the meeting tomorrow has been "postponed".
-
Realignment talk not going away
Yup - aggy was simply bait and the SEC just landed the whale it has been chasing since 1990.

I thought is was one of those Fox Photo drive thru booths? Eh, I'm probably just mixing up Mike Adams with the Libyans in Back to the Future. No Satya.

Rich people don't pay much in taxes (now in CR) - ProPublica
Because it's only income once you sell the options and can actually spend the money. Before then it's value could still go to zero. As discussed above, there are ways to take out loans using your options (or any investment) as collateral. But now we're getting back into a discussion about a wealth tax. The two concepts (income tax vs wealth tax) continue to get conflated in articles like the one linked in the OP. Stock options simply aren't income.

Rich people don't pay much in taxes (now in CR) - ProPublica
Agree on most points but there should be more brackets, particularly at the top end; no need to limit to 5. It's absolutely aggravating that ~$500K is currently the top bracket, and that Biden's plan does nothing to change this. While $500K is a lot of money, many of these earners aren't "wealthy" in that they aren't sitting on a pile of savings. Many are first time college graduates who have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, small business owners, etc. Why not add more brackets to capture more from those making $1M, $5M, $10M, and so on. Corporate taxes are different (not sure if you were suggesting rates match personal income rates or simply saying to close the loopholes - I read it as corporate income tax rates should match personal income tax rates). Prior to Trump's plan, the US was taxing corporations at a much higher rate than most of our peers (35% vs ~22% average for EU countries). The reduction implemented by Trump was bigger than necessary and the pendulum swung too far, but its in the best interest of our country to keep this tax rate within striking distance of our peers to encourage companies to keep their corporate income tax dollars at home. I think matching corporate tax rates to personal income tax rates would result in more companies following Apple's example by stashing profits in places like Ireland and Jersey (the island, not the state). Agree capital gains should be treated as income. My guess is Biden only proposed increasing cap gains tax on those making over $1M, and didn't propose cap gains tax rates match income tax rates because that would be frowned upon by his biggest, wealthiest donors (same for most politicians on both sides of the aisle). I see no logical reason why ones cap gains tax rate wouldn't matching ones income tax bracket, as cap gains ARE income.

Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
Per your own link to the CDC, it looks like Alabama is actually the lowest at 26.5 per 100,000. Let's all do what they're doing! I kid, I kid. Just pointing out there are a lot of variables in play.

The Trial of Derek Chauvin
I get that you'd prefer to be out of there sooner rather than later, but isn't this what we should all want from jurors? Deliberately evaluating all evidence seems like a good thing to me, especially if it leads to a just verdict.
