I'm An Alcoholic
Yesterday was a day filled with the entire emotional spectrum. We received our new puppies and the joy they brought us from the first time we saw them filled our hearts. Watching the brother and sister run around the yard playing put smiles on both of our faces. To know they will be our responsibility gives us both a sense of responsibility and purpose which being a good pet owner should have. Both of us have long term sobriety and they will never see us drunk nor want for anything in terms of their care. About an hour later, my daughter in law in California called and was crying hysterically. She was able to tell me that my son Clark was gone. I asked her what she meant, and the replied "He is dead. I can't wake him up, he is cold and not breathing. I called 911 and they are coming." Clark has been an addict since a teenager, been in treatment several times, and had never been able to overcome his clinically diagnosed depression. For the last six months he has been abusing nitrous oxide and slipping deeper and deeper into the abyss. His wife had to leave the house Friday night because he was off the rails and abusing her emotionally. When she returned on Saturday, he had died. This morning through my tears, I chaired the 7am zoom meeting for my group. I spent the better part of yesterday calling members of my group and telling him my son had died because without help, it is too much for us. God provided His angels yesterday through the phone and this morning at the meeting. Though my heart is broken, it shall be mended by the process of living life one day at a time, practicing the principles of recovery, and helping another alcoholic who is seeking a way out from under. I have learned that rather than drinking or doing other things to change my feelings, I can feel them instead, even when I wish I didn't have to. Clark is no longer suffering and is free from the bondage that kept him in pain for so long. The last words we said to each other this past Wednesday were "I love you and can't wait to see you again." Soon and very soon, this to shall be. One day at a time, very soon.

If you remember the nights in any of Allred's bars in the 70's, you were never there.

I'm An Alcoholic
Sometimes these FGO's really test the love and tolerance part of our program. Good on you and your wife being of service to your friend's family-that intangible reward which comes from unconditional giving is priceless and speaks volumes to newcomers when you are sponsoring. Hang in there.

2020 uil championships
Some on here think he isnt that great. They might be right-sometimes HS stardom doesn't translate in CFB, just as CFB stardom does not guarantee the same results in the NFL. But I guess we'll never know what could have been in Austin, which has been a pattern for sometime now.

Agree. His turn in Darkest Hour was some of the greatest work ever.

Killed it in Boardwalk/Fargo. The cast of this show makes the next episode something I look forward to.

Utah national parks
Last July we did this and it is just as you describe it. Such sensory overload during this entire adventure-one that I am ready to enjoy at another location when it becomes an option to travel safely.

I'm An Alcoholic
One of my favorite reminders regarding controversial and possibly destructive conversation topics: Does it need to be said, does it need to be said now, does it need to be said by me? Doesn't always stop me from inserting my foot in my mouth from time to time, but I'm making progress. I had to get off of Facebook because it became too difficult not to practice restraint of tongue and keyboard.

I used to pour 1/4 cup of beef or chicken broth on the dry food. Both of mine became fans after.

RIP KC Jones
Right there with you. KC was a bad ass defender and the Celtics teams he played on maybe didn't have the talent of some of the teams they played for those titles, but you never doubted that the five on the court were relentless. RIP to another memory from my childhood-watching KC, Sam, John, Bailey, and Bill help Red light up another championship cigar.

15 Years Ago Today
We drove to Austin the day after just to take a picture in front of the tower with the big #1. Growing up in the 60's I assumed Texas would be winning the NCS two or three times every decade, and never imagined that it would be 35 years in between titles. Can't imagine how long it will now be or if I will even be alive to witness another.

Having done this now four times, I can tell you it never will be easy. But when I consider what memories my life has been blessed with by getting another dog after having to put one down, I am glad we made the choice to welcome another one in our lives. Mrs. PCH just retired on December 31 and we agreed to begin the search in January for the next canine kid(s). Good luck on whatever you decide.

Sending good thoughts your way today amigo. I find myself tearing up every time I read about one of our canine kids having to be euthanized. Sweet Lianna, good girl! Say hello to Zeke and Bailey when you meet them-you will be among friends.
