  1. Also, if you get in a wreck, call the insurance company immediately and wait for someone to come out (if you care about getting reimbursed). Mexican auto insurance will deny your claim if you get in a wreck and drive off without waiting for an insurance rep. to come out to the scene.
  2. Not mandatory, but really stupid not to get. Mexican law for accidents/collisions is "Arrest first, ask questions later". If you don't have Mexican insurance, they will arrest you, then it's up to you to prove you can pay for any damages you are suspected of causing.
