I've been wondering about this one. I feel like I have seen more promotion than typical for a low stakes studio film with no stars, though Jack Quaid is in ascendency. They must think they really have something. Looks like UpperWestside saw it early and liked it a lot.
  2. When you don’t know where to go, go where you’re needed.
  3. I would say that just on acting performance, Brody was better. TC gets bonus points for doing the musical part of it and rightfully so. Ultimately, either one was worthy and would have been a fine winner.
  4. I think everyone is super sensitive about AI in Hollywood and rightly so. In this case, this is such a minor case. They used some AI to modulate their voices when they are reading some letters in Hungarian. Maybe 3 minutes of the movie and not when they’re on screen, just voice overs. It’s not really essential to the performance. I’m sure there was some minor adjustments to Chalamet’s voice on the songs during post as well, just using more legacy tools as opposed to AI. I mean, every movie has ADR to adjust dialogue in post production to fix sound issues, at the very least. I don’t think it should disqualify the overall performance.
  5. Putin's ROI on this Trump purchase has to be the most lucrative deal in history.
  6. Saw the Live Action Shorts yesterday. Felt it was a better crop than the Animated ones for sure. There was one I didn't really care about but enjoyed the rest. I would say A Lien and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent were the best.
  7. Finished Season 4. This show is unbelievable. It's such a fun show and this season is just a hang out show. Very little hockey. No Sanguinet or JJ Frankie JJ, which is fine by me. I felt those were the lowest ROI characters.
  8. Hackman and Denzel going toe to toe in Crimson Tide is as good as it gets.
  9. How did that guy survive that vicious and flagrant foul?
  10. We had a weekly poker game at my house for years in the late 2000's. We pretty much rotated Anchorman, Snatch and The Big Lebowski. Always did the trick.
  11. I’m through 5 and that Santos woman needs to fucking chill.
  12. He’s going into TV right? Huh?
  13. Saw the animated shorts yesterday. There was one I didn't really like and the rest were variations of "Eh, that was fine". Pretty uninspiring.
  14. Saw it the other day. It was a pretty trash movie but I was entertained enough by it.
  15. Whatever you think of it, she has definitely made a choice and I respect the commitment.
  16. Margin Call is also an elite YouTube clip movie. You can easily lose an hour doing that.
  17. Companion - I didn't have whole lot of interest in this, but I kept hearing great things, so I took a shot. It's a really good and creative thriller. I would go in blind if you can, but I knew the premise and it still worked for me. I thought both the premise and the execution of the story were very clever and I was entertained the whole time.
  18. I thought Moody Center was a bit big for them, so I looked at the available tickets. They've sold MAYBE 15%-20% of the seats. I don't know who keeps putting these groups in way too large venues, but they need to give it up. I know The Black Keys had to trash a whole tour because of this.
  19. This is all correct. I heard Adam Newman on The Big Picture refer to one scene in particular (you know the one) as a ā€œmetafiveā€, as opposed to a metaphor, due to how on the nose it was.
  20. His ā€œI don’t know what any of this shit is and I’m fucking scaredā€ in the parking lot scene kills me every time.
  21. I do agree with this on the big studios. It's become a numbers game and they aren't as concerned about the originality or quality of the movie. The mid level movie from those shops have virtually dried up and if one does slip through, they don't put their promotional resources toward it. The smaller studios like A24 and Neon are putting out great work, but they don't always have the resources to promote on a large scale. They have to get more creative and depend on word of mouth. So, it takes a little more work to find movies you want to see. I listen to a podcast (The Big Picture, which has been mentioned), but there are easier ways. Places like this board and this particular thread are a great place to check too.
  22. This hit the festivals last year and the buzz was that it was one of the funniest movies in years. The marketing is pretty interesting with the horror style but with pull quotes about how funny it is. I’m excited for it.
