You do you, but THH drinks much more like a bourbon (and a damn fine one) to my palate. I’m sure the 51% mash bill has a lot to do with that.

Speaking of Woodford, I picked up a bottle of Double XO Blend in Heathrow on my way back home Friday. It’s in the current Master’s collection bottle. The bottle claims it’s finished in “heavily toasted & in XO Cognac casks”. I don’t think there is a US release planned but it’s one of the better Woodford products I’ve had in a minute.
  3. In other news, Liverpool has put in 7 (and counting) against Man U. I wonder how many games it’ll take us to score 7 more goals. 15? 20?

That’s awesome. I’m sure there would be some level of value associated with it amongst GB fans. I’m a pretty big GB fan and I’ve never even seen that before, so I’m sure it’s on the rare side.

I spotted a bottle of VW 12 year at a London bar last night and was curious to see what they were asking for a pour. €12.50 for a single and €25 for a double. I quite enjoyed my double.

We got a bottle of the double barrel JD special release and it was universally despised. I don’t know what they were shooting for with that one but it didn’t work at all. It almost tasted like BBQ a and not in a good way.

Still is better than GB, but this isn’t an either/or situation. I have both brands in my bar and I’m happy about that. I don’t know why everyone still has to come out of the woodwork to shit on GB pricing 13 years later. It is what it is.

Yes, for some there is that opportunity to turn it into a means to generate profit. I am also an avid sneaker fan and I am frustrated as fuck with that culture too. On many an occasion I have said "I buy sneakers to wear them and whiskeys to drink them.", and I don't foresee a scenario where that ever changes. It's not that I don't have the means, but I am not interested in contributing to that side of the culture in any way, shape, form or fashion. That just feels gross to me. There are a ton of ways to turn a nickel into a quarter, and I'm not interested in using things I am personally passionate about to do it.

My view is that we've crossed a line such that proximity/access to the product is now a bigger focus than the product itself. Or at least that's true for many. People just want to rack up fictional "equity" for being in the general atmosphere of rare products more than they want to drink high quality product that is readily available. And look, I'm not at all butt hurt that I don't have access to bottle XYZ. I bought (at MSRP) and killed the Van Winkle 23 "Family Selection" that went for $50k in a charity auction last year. It was unquestionably phenomenal. But it didn't grant me any special powers, and it didn't redefine what good whiskey is for me either. This whole bourbon explosion is just another symptom of how pervasive FOMO is in our culture. People inherently want that which they cannot have, but the truth is that those rare bottles of whiskey are just an exercise in the optimization of the final 1-2%. It'd be great if the product in the glass was the focus, but I'm not naive enough to believe that we're ever getting back to that point.

He’s right. It won’t help for a long time. It’s popular with the late majority now, and it’s going to take many years for another spirit to come along and grab their attention.

God I can't stand that ascot wearing asshat. If the cost of having access to that bar included listening to him for any amount of time, I'd have to think long and hard about making that deal. Not that anyone is about to invite my grumpy ass to something like that, but still.

Also, buying backups for a $50 shelf bottle? And people wonder how bourbon became so allocated.

The oxidization argument is horse shit. There is no reasonable timeline where it goes bad.

That bottle is delicious. Full stop.

So we should buy BTAC bottles at MSRP? Super hot takes here, gents. [emoji849]

I concur. The Total by my house went ten deep on that bottle. I picked up the one so as not to be a hypocrite. But it’s really excellent.

That’s what nobody likes. I love it on the front of the palate but the finish just feels out of place. I’m probably going to try to flip our open bottle for…..something. Anything.

What’s the feeling on Irish whiskey around here? Our group picked up a Redbreast 27 and can’t stand it, but I’ve had a couple of the Spots that are great and the Redbreast Kentucky Oak was a great pour too.

I don’t hate secondary groups. They serve a purpose and I’ve been involved on both sides of several transactions, though I’ve only used it once in the last year. I’m increasingly confounded by people that hoard whiskey to the point of owning more than they are likely to drink in their lifetime. It only contributes to the problem. I don’t own a backup of a single bottle in my collection. And I’m downright over the culture of posting pictures as some sort of dick measuring contest. Yes, I’ve posted some pics on this thread. No, I don’t plan to do it any more. We all know what these bottles look like at this point. I’m here for the dialogue on what’s good and what’s not, but I couldn’t be less interested in looking at pictures of other people’s bottles.

I don’t know that you’re going to find a pure play bourbon that you like just based on what you shared about your preferred profile. If you could find a High West campfire…..maybe? Honestly, just avoid bourbon. It’s become something of a pain in the ass over the last several years. The awesome thing about loving Scotch is that it’s highly available.

I have learned I primarily like HH wheaters. Larceny Barrel Proof and Old Fitz have always agreed with my pallet. I haven’t dabbled with any of the EW, and would probably start with a pour before chasing down a bottle.

That’s sweet that you’re sending us positive thoughts. You know it won’t help one bit though. And however you and Bill feel about Booker’s is exactly the way I feel about any EC product. I’ve had several and I’ve never found one I wanted another pour of.
  25. Havertz had three gilt edged chances and converted one. Happy with any W these days, but that shouldn’t have anywhere near as nervy at the end as it ended up being.
