Me neither. I actually preferred 14. 15 fell a little flat for me.

I’m not one to ask for a MWND compare. I don’t really love that one, but I recognize I’m pretty much on my own there. Seagrass is damn good though. It earned its place on all those best of the year lists. It’s the best executed finished whiskey I’ve had, as the backbone of the Rye is unmistakable but the flavors from the barrels are there and elevate the end product. I was initially hesitant because I also bought Armida and I could never get into it because nothing about it identified as a bourbon. I ended up giving that bottle away.

Passing on Seagrass at $65 is a mistake. Shit, worst case is you don’t like it and can easily trade a damn near full bottle for something of equivalent value.

Well that’s not REALLY TX whiskey. It’s MGP sold by a Texas NDP.

The 2% ER just feels unnecessarily cute. What’s 2% really going to do to the overall taste profile? I’d bet the answer is “next to nothing”.

There are lots of bourbons I would not hesitate to spend $110+ for. Confiscated is most certainly not one of them.

Team Brennan or Team Dale?
Brennan nailed The Fucking Catalina Wine Mixer and his therapist. Not to mention the fact that he put his nut sack on Dale’s drum set. So I gotta give him the nod in a close race.

If by “football season” you mean “disappointment”, then yes. Excellent comparison.

Jack and fucking coke? Jesus Christ. If you’re older than 21, you’re too old to be drinking that.

Isn’t that just a UK version of their standard single barrel? Price is the same. Is it worth it? Not any more or less worth their stuff in general. GB scratches a uniqueness itch that’s important to me, so I tend to like their stuff and am fine paying for it. Can you objectively say it’s $40 better than WT Rare Breed? I think that’s probably tough.

Yikes. Those prices are brutal.

Seagrass is fucking great. It’s KY/IN/Canadian Ryes and it’s a home run.

I’ve never once had a bad batch of Barrell Bourbon or Rye. Now, if you go for the infinite barrel, the American whiskey, a store pick, or some of their other more niche products, your experience could vary greatly. Of their newer releases I’ve had the Gold Label ($500 SRP) and the Gray Label Seagrass, and both of those are delicious. Can you say the Good Label is $500 good? I think that’s super tough. But it’s got great depth of flavor and a great finish. People get so hung up on the $80 SRP for their core releases, but they are doing great work blending sourced distillate and it’s readily available with almost no secondary market. I think more of the category should be in the $70-$90 range to slow down the secondary market, even if it’s just a little. But hey, don’t listen to me. Leave it alone so it remains readily available please.

2022 Transfer Thread - It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
I don’t know shit about Sanders as a dude, but it certainly reads like he’s just not an Austin kind of kid. I don’t get it, but there are always kids like that in every class.

Stoli owns the brand and partnered with Dixon Dedman to select sourced Kentucky juice to sell at a premium. I’ve had most of them, and none of them are bad. That said, they priced them high because, presumably, sourced Kentucky whiskey of any age/quality is getting pricey and I’m sure Dixon was well compensated. I like Confiscated the least and the Wiseman Bourbon batch 3 the most. I never walked away feeling like any of them worth the asking price at MSRP.

The JD special releases are not for me. I got last year's Rye at retail and was wholly underwhelmed. I ended up trading my open that was ~65% full for a sealed Stagg Jr. 15 and couldn't have been any happier about that. That whiskey had no idea what it wanted to be, other than just loud. I had two separate pours of the Coy Hill and walked away thinking it was a step down from last year's Rye. Oak for days, with a short dry finish that left me wondering why anyone would want to own a bottle. I guess that's what's so crazy about whiskey. One man's drain pour is another man's unicorn.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

On Coy Hill, Raj (OLC owner) cracked a bottle and provided sample pours for his regulars since he only got 2 bottles. I ended up getting to try it twice, and I liked it less than last year’s Rye which I really didn’t care for. I ended up flipping my open bottle on the secondary for a Stagg Jr 15 and almost felt bad for the guy that got the JDBPR. Coy Hill was just not good. Both sips were Oak dominant with little to no fruit to balance it out and a short dry finish to boot.- Bourbon
Put me in the "fucking sick of it" camp. Just hearing about people sitting in line for shit makes me roll my eyes. I'm sitting on something north of 70 bottles, and there is just no need to try to keep pace. My plan for 2022 is to not buy a single bottle. Assuming I can pull that off, I'll allow myself to splurge on something nice via secondary. I honestly think it's going to be a relief to not worry about whatever new shit gets dreamed up for this year.- Bourbon
The Kosher series whiskeys are all fine. They are priced on the lower end of the mid-tier at ~$40 and that’s pretty much what they are worth. You don’t see them often because, well, they are still Buffalo Trace products and so many people have lost all perspective when it comes to that brand. I think it’s worth picking up assuming you’re paying MSRP. It would no doubt make a great Old Fashioned if nothing else.- Bourbon
Hell yeah I drank it all. I wanna say the last pour was in 2014 or so? Can't say for certain. I ended up selling the decanter, box, etc. for more than I paid for the full bottle of whiskey to begin with, but I find myself really wishing I hadn't. Not because I wanted to hang on to it, but because I'm worried someone is going to pass it off as the real deal and rip someone off. I didn't include the actual cork based topper when I sold it, which was custom to the bottle. Hopefully that's enough to prevent the counterfeit risk, but in retrospect I should have just destroyed the bottle or displayed it somewhere.- Bourbon
True story. I bought this bottle at MSRP ($350) back in 2011 at Wiggy's Liquor down on East 6th. Spent all day calling around liquor stores looking for a bottle of the PVW23, and was about to give up when I struck gold. Shit was fucking delicious. Found the old thread at the shag: http://www.shaggytexas.com/board/showthread.php/93435-The-Holy-Grail-of-Bourbon And yes, I want to punch 2011 me straight in the balls for describing it as "impossibly smooth".- 2022 Transfer QB Quinn Ewers
