  1. You think just anyone can snap the ball long? You think Kick Holding is so simple that even Left Guards could do it - if they report "eligible"?
  2. Some forms of crazy are indistinguishable from abject stupidity.
  3. Sometimes, as Franzese points out, it's the coach on the hook. Flopping around like a fish. Coach can just call the wrong play, bench the wrong guy, leave the wrong guy at left guard, whatever. Fugedda bout it. It's about the spread. Sometimes they fuck up and don't just fail to cover, but actually lose. People wonder WTF, how do you lose to fuckin' FLORIDA? So you bet the underdog, with spread, and the dog not only won with the spread, they won outright - you still win.
  4. No one thought he would miss last season, either, so your company is not exclusive by any measure. Close to but not in Top Ten - again - is not going to be acceptable.
  5. We may hope.
  6. It's NFL-LITE, It's more filling and has more taste. It also has a lot fewer players than formerly who are interested primarily - or even at all - in "an education". The myth of the "student-athlete" has been quite the joke for quite awhile, and now it's at least mostly dead. What players want is a payday, and they'll get one, for a while. As long as insurance companies, brewers, car manufacturers, and drug pushers keep paying mediots and the mediots keep paying the schools, the paydays will continue. But players will probably be shocked when schools follow the exact same $$$$-first behavior and create a portal gateway through which non- or poorly-performing players are ejected before they have a chance to defenestrate themselves. Shocked, I tell you... shocked!
  7. You're absolutely right. Let's see if they're any better in three more years. "Indiana was a good team, but..." is faint praise for a national champion.

Nail. Head. That's one of my questions, which I hadn't gotten around to asking yet... Who has an "elite" DL that we fear will not be dominated by our guys? tOSU? OU? LSU? I'm not even sure we need to "dominate" them... we look to have enough offense that we'll be fine if we can break even with the lines.
  9. Yeah, think you're right in both counts.
  10. And that might help, if I had any idea who Buffy and Jody are/were. ETA: To be fair, I knew a Buffy, who was a PhD candidate at Columbia, but I'm pretty certain she was from Lawn Guy Land, not Indiana.
  11. It's in Terre Haute, right? What's that famous for?

You're right about the explosions. So many times Wisner fought his way through the first contacts, was off and running... and got caught. If these new guys can be as good in the first part, they look to be fast enough that they aren't going to be run down. Getting better down-field blocking from receivers will help. Hell, that may even be a point for quasi-legal incentives: make a great block, get a Snickers, with five or ten Franklins as a wrapper.
  13. OL play - particularly with run plays - is dependent on the players being together. I got the impression, from something heard during the run-up to the Indiana-Miami game, that Indiana OL practices were largely walk-throughs of the plays to be used in the upcoming game(s), with heavy attention to concerted and synchronized actions. Watching the stumbling around of our OL during the first half of the season left the impression that our guys - some of them, anyway - were not well-drilled. Coach Flood has had five years to get his men on the same page, and they don't even look like they're in the same book. Seems like he needs help or a new job.

Not expecting it, fact. It's not impossible, though, so it could happen. The warm bodies - big warm bodies - seem like they could be taught how to run block - Indiana would appear to be a demonstration of that. Unfortunately, I don't see Flood as being able to teach it, and you're probably rightly skeptical there. Last season's first half showcasing the complete lack of competence in the middle of the OL was a clear indictment of the HC-OC-OL combination. The fact that the HC let that go on, to the point that we managed to lose to Florida, was ... troubling. Still, we have seven months to fix this, and I can't quite give up hope that Sark finds coaching help.

There are ways, we just haven't seen them yet.
  16. Looking at Loochee's supposition that things mighta been different if USC had "converted 4th and 1". Maybe I missed it, but nobody seems to have noticed/mentioned that it's exactly what did happen: USC made that yard. Howsomever, it was a yard short, because it was actually 4th and 2.
  17. I'm in, if it's to be pronounced "plah zhuh".
  18. War Baby gotcha fucken rizz rat cheah.
