I’m not even saying we need anything crazy. Putting this offense in positions like:
1st & 10 - 3 yard run
2nd & 7 - 3 yard run
3rd & 4 - (you have the entire playbook at your disposal) this is a down & distance where Helm and Golden should feast on crossing routes and drags
instead we’ll get
1st & 10 - oopty oop razzle dazzle double screen Jaydon Blue - 2 yards
2nd & 12 - Quinn arm punt deep ball to no one
3rd & 12 - wisner check down 4 yards
4th & 8 - Kern 32 yard punt
Of course this is all after fielding the kick 4 yards deep in the end zone and starting on our own 15, punting from our 17 and setting them up at midfield after only taking 58 seconds off the clock and fucking our defense over yet again.
The only team that’s stopped Texas running is Georgia. All we need is about 140 total on the ground and we’re money. Anything else is just extra gravy.
Rarely is that a championship formula. A lot of great offensive minds have tried to outfox and use short passes as a run. You have to be able to run the ball and stop the run. I don't see that ever changing in football. Even 2019 LSU had a 1,400 yard runner.
I hope most of y'all share this sentiment, but I look at the 2005 Longhorns as the pinnacle of the program. And an example of what level can be achieved and the standard in which to hold.
This 2024 team reminds me of the 2003 team. They are still learning how to win and become champions. Toughness, focus, preparedness, execution. Still not quite there.
Banks will be a 1st rounder and should absolutely declare after the season. I don't see the high round grade in Williams that the media talks about. Not dominant and quite a bit undisciplined. It would serve him well to come back. G-C-G is good not great. Would like to see Texas get beefier at Guard and a bit more of an attitude.
In football, the situation is always fluid. You're good until you aren't. One game doesn't negate that, but man, two really bad performances against our only elite opponent is not a good sign.
Oregon 40
Notre Dame 17
Texas loses to Clemson. (I think Georgia mentally beats us for a 3rd time) I don't like the mentality of the team right now. Defense finally broke, offensive line got abused again. Moore staring blankly on the bench 30 mins after the game says it all.
Quinn isn't a vocal leader that inspires belief. It's over for 2024.
This! Acting like a meathead and going full Hermensa acting like "only I know the best plays and that's what it's going to be." Is recipe to nosedive off a cliff back into obscurity. Saban was so good as a head coach because he was constantly bringing in coaching talent and reinventing himself. Being stubborn and full of ego is ignorant and a guaranteed recipe for failure.
Having another offensive perspective and a challenging voice on the offensive staff is not a bad thing.
I imagine we're gonna get a jihad game from Klubnik since he's from Austin and will put up numbers like 2007 Tom Brady. Then we'll get a healthy dose of "Cade Klubnik grew up just down the street from Texas and they didn't want him." Blah blah blah
