  1. For some reason this made me think of Private Cowboy saying, "Be glad to trade you some ARVN rifles. Never been fired and only dropped once."
  2. Wood 'drastically underestimates the impact of social distinctions predicated upon wealth, especially inherited wealth.' You got that from Vickers, 'Work in Essex County,' page 98, right? Yeah, I read that too. Were you gonna plagiarize the whole thing for us? Do you have any thoughts of your own on this matter? Or do you...is that your thing? You come into a bar. You read some obscure passage and then pretend...you pawn it off as your own idea just to impress some girls and embarrass my friend? See the sad thing about a guy like you is in 50 years you're gonna start doin' some thinkin' on your own and you're gonna come up with the fact that there are two certainties in life. One: don't do that. And two: You dropped a hundred and fifty grand on a f----n' education you coulda' got for a dollar fifty in late charges at the public library.
  3. Holding accountants accountable sounds so meta.
  4. It's been a decade or three since I lived near a Brams but their frozen yogurts (including soft-serve) were the tits. I used to eat way too much "Coconut Chocolate Walnut" when I could find it. And I loved the chocolate-vanilla swirl in a waffle cone, too. I used to drive a car with manual transmission and it was a bitch to shift, steer and eat that fucking waffle cone but I did it out of love. (cue "The Things We Do For Love" by 10cc)
  5. Good one, but let's be honest: Ted Cruz looks like Ted Cruz in drag which is why SNL nailed it with Aidy Bryant.
  6. For some reason this reminds me of a passage from Steve Martin's Cruel Shoes: THE UNDERTAKERS
  7. "Do you won't a cookie" gets my vote for next Surly motto. I mean, that's T-shirt quality stuff right there.
  8. So add COVID and LA weather dipping down into the brisk fifties to the list of weenie shrinking events.
  9. Speaking of phone book, if anyone wishes to call Jenny, I'll save you the trouble of looking up her number. It's 867-5309.
  10. Didn't Sark say something akin to "we need to figure out if we wanted him?" I had always imagined it was difficult to swallow our pride and acknowledge that we needed his help . Something like this
  11. Gritty never liked Cinderella...
  12. Despite the name, it started in Nashville in 1976 (the founders were from Texas). Ironically it no longer exists there or in Houston under that name. The Kirby location is now Hillstone, which operates restaurants under many names, including Houstons. Weird. I've heard conflicting stories about J Alexanders, which seems like a clone, regarding who borrowed from whom. Bottom line is that I've always been a fan. Yes, very good burger, but that Hawaiian Ribeye is what brings me back.
  13. No mention of Dr. Pepper? Username does not check out! Just kidding, I hadn't noticed you before on here, but if your name honors the ECON prof at UT, I thought I'd chime in. I loved the guy and while it was been nearly 40 years since I was in his course, I have distinct memories of his love for DP (i.e., stop by my office to discuss, but make sure you bring a sixpack of Dr. Pepper). For those who remember him or want to know more about him, here's his obituary.
  14. The way I see it, he's not in this for the touchdowns.* *A hunter goes into the woods to hunt a bear. He carries his trusty 22-gauge rifle with him. After a while, he spots a very large bear, takes aim, and fires. When the smoke clears, the bear is gone. A moment later, the bear taps the hunter on the shoulder and says, “No one shoots at me and gets away with it. The way I see it, you have two choices: I can rip your throat out and eat you, or you can drop your trousers, bend over, and I’ll [insert appropriate colloquialism for sodomy here].” The hunter decides that anything is better than death, so he drops his trousers and bends over; and the bear does what he said he would do. After the bear has left, the hunter pulls up his trousers and staggers back into town. He’s pretty mad. He buys a much larger gun and returns to the forest. He sees the same bear, aims, and fires. When the smoke clears, the bear is gone. A moment later the bear taps the hunter on the shoulder and says, “The way I see it, you already know what to do.” Afterward, the hunter pulls up his trousers, crawls back into town, and buys a bazooka. Now he’s really mad. He returns to the forest, sees the bear, aims, and fires. The force of the bazooka blast knocks him flat on his back. When the smoke clears, the bear is standing over him and says, “The way I see it, you’re not in this for the hunting, are you?”
  15. Good question, I was going quickly to share and will catch up to it again after my work day .
  16. Some interesting descriptions written in lay terms by the Atlantic to help people understand why Omicron is successfully infecting vaccinated people and causing illness but usually not severe:
  17. They didn't forfeit, they just ran out of antibodies.
