Happy to see the craven, disgusting ‘slide a few yards short and cry for a foul rather than fight for the 1st’ play punished rather than rewarded, would have been happy if it had been Dak even.
My gut estimate is that we give away about 4-5 points a game consistently with awful coaching decisions, particularly in high-leverage / clutch situations, and terrible clock, tempo and TO management.
If you very crudely call the third-easiest strength of schedule and the shackles of Gingerball a wash, I find it difficult to argue that Dak hasn't been a top 5 QB itl this season.
Dude was a straight up monster last night. If we'd found a way to win in spite of ourselves it would go down as one of the signature victories of his career to date.
This puzzles me too. Vander Esch looked like one of the best natural tacklers I'd ever seen in my life to my less-than-expert eye his rookie year. So good at just dusting dudes right at the point of contact; they drop or they go backwards, no yards after contact. This year he looks like he's showing just occasional flashes of those kinds of plays that used to be pretty much automatic. Can't figure it out.
Shades of Jon Kitna cackling on the radio at how easy it was to crack Parcells’ defense. Remember that stretch to close his last year when we gave up like 8 TDs to fullbacks or something? Anacardo Farm remembers. Ironically Jon works for us now; I wonder if he’s flashing back too.
Parcells was done after that. We’ll see how the worm turns with this one.
I wonder if it might not be best for Caden to take a shirt this year, which he is eligible to do. His struggles indicate to me that he'd greatly benefit from better strength & conditioning and more technical preparation for the position. His incredible athletic gifts in terms of size, speed, length, agility etc. tend to mask these deficiencies but they really show when he's less than 100% and I don't want to see such a stellar talent get sucked into a black hole of aggravations / compensatory injuries. Sorry if I sound like somebody's grandmother or something.
I remember the first series RoJo came in vs. LT and a second or third down - obvious passing situation - where I was waiting for him to be ldo motioned out of the backfield where he might be useful. He stayed in, I thought to myself 'this is stupid' as the ball was snapped - then he actively stepped into the hole and aggressively made contact to stonewall a blitzer and I had to apologize to all concerned. Won the play pretty handily. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before - a third string quarterback, pass-blocking with will, confidence, and pretty good technique and power. He's going to be a very valuable player.
That too. Knew a guy from the fencing team who went to Coppell w/ Robbie and shit talked him incessantly. Then he left an NFL HOF-er a zero in the box score. Must’ve taken the criticism to heart.
What I remember best about that game was 9/11 the following Tuesday. Roommate came in to wake me up just in time to see the second plane hit. That was a pretty hot day. Not hot enough to melt structural steel, mind you, but pretty hot.
