  1. Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and Grindelwald are amazing. My kids and I did a kayak tour on Lake Brienz. A couple days later we took a tram up the mountain from Grinelwald to Mannlichen and hiked across to the Kleine Scheidegg for lunch right under the Eiger and then took the cable car back down to Grindelwald. Definitely one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been. Hiking is like a national pastime up there and they’ve cut all these trails to connect every little village on the mountain. Big wide smooth trails, easy for a casual walk from town to town. A very different experience than if you said you were going hiking over here.
  2. Moot point now! Walking through 2 different airports in the last 3 hours and seeing everyone smiling has been fucking glorious.
  3. Pretty proud of never having been to a Disney park. Somehow my kids lives have been fulfilling anyway.
  4. This has been my preseason mindset for the last decade or so. Hype articles are just clickbait and not to be believed ever Yeah but rule #1 still applies. They are to be considered dog shit until they prove otherwise. this mindset saves a lot of heartburn every fall.
  5. Your average Texas beach-goer has been giving Oklahoma and Florida a run for their money for quite some time now. Every time I go down there I’m surprised at how much pure trash is cruising the beach compared to the last time.
  6. I'm really picky about that stuff. Some of them just feel wrong and I can't shake the discomfort. I've had a typical camelbak and they make my lower back ache after a while. That's my fault for having a weak lower back, but still.. I've tried two hip belts, the Dakine Hot Laps and the EVOC something or other. The Dakine has a 2L bladder. The EVOC has a small bladder and holds a bottle on each side. My preferred setup for the hip pack is the EVOC pack with the two bottles and no bladder, plus a bottle on the frame. Rode thjat set up for a year or so and liked it well enough. Minimal bounce. I prefer bottles to bladder. The hose annoys me and I don't mind slowing or stopping to drink. They both need to be cinched down fairly tight to not bouce and the tightness isn't real comfortable, but still better than a camelbak.... until recently. I recently got a Camelbak Skyline. Love it. It's a pack on your back but it sits really low. Almost like a bigger hip pack but with shoulder straps. I've been on a dozen or so rides with it now and it's my favorite setup of them all. Hold more than a hip pack, feels way better than a typical camelback Skyline: The EVOC

Time for mine... Anyone have a favorite butthole doctor in Austin? Austin Gastroenterology has a southwest office in the same building my normal doctor's office. Probably will go there unless convinced otherwise.
  8. Overweight landing, faster approach speed, semi-high elevation airport, no thrust reversers, probably max braking... perfect recipe for blown tires and brake fires. Can't tell if that's runway 25 or 7, but 25 has significant downslope too.
  9. Is that a better experience than just chewing them up?
  10. I have no idea how you read into that a desire to not upset the criminals. The guy could camp out in his car and blast whoever shows up for all I care. I’m just saying what he did isn’t going to be the least bit effective, once they realized it was just a flash bang the thieves probably had a bigger laugh about it than we are.
  11. That’s a good thing because the Target got demolished a year or two ago.
  12. The guy is an idiot if he thinks this will actually deter the thieves next time. Or he has just never known the fearless audacity and sense of invincibility of a teenager doing stupid shit. His truck probably gets worked over pretty soon for this and they likely don’t stop with just one window. He’s a bigger target now than he was before. “Gee they got me pretty good with that one, I should change my ways,” said no young criminal ever.
  13. *tentatively
  14. They got about 12-18” before the solid limestone in my yard. Then it’s was 4 days of busting rock to get down 6’. But hey, the hoses are in the pool as we speak. Finally filling this bitch up today!
  15. You should put bars on the windows. I would but my welder moved to California.
  16. He was an absolute coward and so are you if it takes a gun for you to solve that particular dilemma. You don’t get to claim self defense in a situation that you created through your own escalation. If a cop did that you’d be trashing them for it.
  17. Because he shot a guy that didn’t need shooting?
  18. Anyone have a link for some inexpensive UL2017 certified window alarms? I need 6 for final inspection.
  19. Thanks, both suggestions are just the kind of thing I'm looking for.
  20. It looked to me like she definitely shot him but we don't know if he dies or not. I could see how her shooting him isn't a plot line they have to protect. It was a gut shot. His recovery will be the big question and everything will hang on that. There will be other cliffhangers we don't know about yet. And I don't mind annoying characters. Wendy and Skyler both fit the bill but you need that. It's part of what makes you love the other characters; that empathy for them having to put up with her shit.
  21. I should have water in mine finally by Monday. Who's got good patio furniture recs? Just basic stuff. Chaise lounges mainly. I think I'm set on two adirondacks on the shaded side near the house, I'm all set on a patio table and the chairs around it. The pergola gets built later and will have more seating and maybe a sofa, but really just need some chaise lounges for now. These will be uncovered, exposed in direct sunlight, and will be rained on. I'm more concerned with simplicity and lack of maintenance. Not looking for anything that will rust or needs regular cleaning, sealing, staining, scrubbing, etc... Something comfortable I can hose off, brush off and be done with it. The stuff made from resin or polywood seems more like what I'm looking for than wood, cheap plastic, or metal. Cushions seem like more hassle than I want to deal with but I'd be ok with it if they were 100% waterproof and aligned with my level of laziness.
  22. Tired take. Even soccer fans think blatant untouched flops like that are bullshit. Flops like that are rare enough that you have to look for them on youtube, etc... Most games go on without one and most of the ones you see regularly are the same shit you see in basketball and occasionally football. A guy commits a minor foul and you exaggerate the effect of it to make sure it's visible. It was a foul anyway, but the flop makes sure the ref sees it. Not even a soccer fan would support the rare untouched theatrical flop. A few NFL flops just from last season NBA flops:
