  1. So, the 8yo has been having quite the tough year in 2nd grade. He has ADHD, but until now it's been largely fine just us needing to steer him to the correct direction. This year his teacher sends home a folder with their behavior noted throughout the course of the day. Smiley face for good day, "OT" for off task and "DO" for distracting others. The vast majority of days he gets an OT which isn't necessarily a problem yet because he's still testing well with above average math and reading skills. His everyday class and homework is an entirely different issue. He'll do the bare minimum on most work, fill in a wrong and poorly thought out answer, if not outright skipping it altogether. When it all gets sent home and I look through it I'll have him sit down with me and try to answer or correct what he has and he seems to do okay understanding what he's supposed to do but simply doesn't for whatever reason. My guess is he simply wants to be anywhere else but in class while actual learning is going on. We've talked with the counselor and teacher and we do have him on the disability plan but my wife and I both agree that his teacher doesn't have the patience required of him, which I don't really blame her for. It's incredibly hard to juggle 20 wild-ass 2nd graders on a daily basis. For background, he's an incredibly sensitive kid who is quick to get his feelings hurt, storm off and cry. He's never gotten physical or tried to hurt himself or others which is good. He wants desperately for every kid in the world to like him, so if he's not getting the attention he craves he'll badger the other kids until they tell him to fuck off. We've tried therapy for his confidence, sensitivity, and ADHD issues but found the therapist was just letting play through the whole session while not really getting to any rooted issues or offering suggestions we could take home and use. She never mentioned if he simply wasn't offering anything in terms of how he feels, but if he wasn't I would think that's a pretty big thing to tell parents. He's my pride and joy and I'd rather not get him on any medication but some serious leaps need to be made in his focus levels before it starts affecting his grades. 3rd grade will be an insane leap as far as the demands required of the schoolwork. Most importantly, I want him to have the confidence and belief in himself that he can do anything. Aside from telling him how much I love him every day and how proud I am of him on anything he does well, I'm pretty stumped on what else to do. Any surly dad's have a similar situation? Suggestions? Also, I know this is a loaded issue with a lot of nuance and variables but if there's any questions I can answer I will.
  2. Voodoo heat are my go to chips when I order from potbelly
  3. I saw it when I was like 12 (way too young), and cried. I saw it a couple more times as a grown ass man and cried then too. It's so fucking powerful, from the acting to the musical score, just perfect.
  4. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned but the scene in Glory where Denzel gets whipped for leaving to go get biscuits has me in absolute fits every time I see it. Between that and the final battle scene its pretty much made for grown folks to be bawling throughout it.
  5. There will be 4 within your line of sight at all times. I used to do NIOSA back in college. Drunk fights and trashy people just aren't my thing and like Lebong James said above, big crowds are just an instant avoid at his point of my life.
  6. This was one of the best mini series I've seen. Chilling ambiance, great acting, and insane tension throughout. My buddies and I still talk about it.
  7. Watched the first ep tonight and was fucking dying laughing.
  8. About as bad as LR's attempt at brisket
  9. This dumb individual attended UT somehow.
  10. It's $31/lb after the price cut? Jesus, what was it before? I've never been there based off the general tone of this thread regarding Heim so I have no fucking clue.
  11. Watched the first two eps last night. Some of the acting is blah but it's otherwise very very good. Anthony Boyle is quickly becoming a must-see talent on screen for me
  12. She didn't really do anything in particular. When she got into the relationship with that 80 year old almost homeless guy the weird townsfolk started listening to both of their nonsensical ramblings and they both gained a local following. After that she set up a web page and started live streaming her drivel on YT to the masses and people seeking "gurus" to follow found her. She promptly dumped the old man and broke off on her own to start the cult and got a younger "father god". Shit is insane.
  13. I'm two episodes into this and holy fuck are all these people insane. The mental makeup of the people that can fall for cult leaders is a fascinating study. Imagine being one of her three kids "Mother God" abandoned to start a faux science driven cult with her as the diety, just terrible.
  14. As someone who went through a very similar situation, this scene had me in fucking shambles. Still hits to this day
  15. Sweat played his role perfectly. It was our DE's and pass rush that never got close to the QB that was the issue.
  16. Thanks for the tip, will do
  17. My 8yo started his first year of kid pitch a couple weeks ago. His normal throw has a sidearm hitch that we're working through with some towel drills and other youtube tutorials for fixing it. Surprisingly, over the last week he's ditched his shitty attitude toward going to practice or drilling at home and looks to have found a competitive edge. Probably after gauging himself against some of the better players on his team. He's about 4" taller than the next tallest kid so he's kind of awkward like a baby giraffe. At the very least, the "want to" has dramatically increased and today there was a school teacher work day, so I showed him a couple drills that he was working on in the yard while I worked from home and took breaks to see how he was doing and work with him a bit. I'm hoping to fix the hitch in his throw then slide into pitching basics since he's a lefty. Lots of work to do but I couldn't be more proud of the steps he's taken so far. Sorry for the boring story lol.
  18. This is the one I was thinking of, actually. Good call.
  19. The Muppets take Manhattan. It is absurdly hilarious
  20. I choose to believe he's gained 20 lbs of solid muscle and he also shaved.10 off his forty time and now runs a 4.26.
