Eberflus has a better resume than Schott. He sucked as a head coach, but he won't be head coach. It's not a horrible hire. Keeping Zimmer probably would have been better.

I don't feel good about this at all. But I don't feel any worse than I did when McCarthy was hired. Same shit, different era.

And his name is Schottenheimer, yet after 25 years coaching in the league no other dipshit GM ever thought of him as head coaching material before.

Well there is a pretty decent RB from Boise State, so they can get that pipeline going again.

I'm good with that. There is already an opening for TE coach.

I'm not happy about it, but I prefer him to midget genius boy Kellen. We'll just have to see if the offensive staff greatly improves, and hope Brian is a better play caller and game manager than McCarthy, which isn't a high bar. It is more or less the same shit as before. Maybe a better new OL coach, WR coach that can get something out of players not named Lamb, and an OC that can breath new life in a worn out scheme.

I liked Gruden's qb interviews and breakdowns. As a head coach, just another aging system guy, like McCarthy, and a lot of others.

Around that time we will have Keith Richards playing the half time show on Thanksgiving.

But McCarthy knew how to fill a Superbowl winning staff in a different era, and had the benefit of top generational prime qb talent, which, arguably, some better coaches could have done even better with. His philosophy was badly out of date by the time he joined the Cowboys, and the same goes for all the old retread assistants he brough with him, despite their efforts to study new trends and renew their vigor. Zimmer would probably remain on the staff or be kept as a consultant. I could see Al Harris taking over as DC.

Pretty much the worst possible scenario, unless it comes with a new hot shot offensive coordinator and some talented younger staff members. If Zimmer/Harris are back, that's probably a plus. Game management probably wouldn't be worse, maybe a step up, but an unknown.

So, I guess it's only the Cowboys and Saints that need to fill a head coaching spot, if there are no snags with new coach contracts. Cowboys have less competition. Not necessarily a bad thing, though they will likely fuck it up. But it may improve their chances of getting a break.

The anxiety about interviews doesn't really do help anybody. I'm just going to try to believe Jerry is searching all options, and maybe will get lucky. I hope it's not going to be some old school guy that can't scheme for today. The more jobs that fill before the Cowboys hire, probably the least likely it will be an old guy unless it's somebody from the previous staff. Either way, any head coach Jerry would hire would probably probably not be a downgrade. Just depends on the staff.

Not too sorry that Pete is going to the AFC West. Maybe they can all beat each other up and eventually keep KC from seven-peating.

Salet is now supposedly going to be the Niners DC. I guess the HC interviews didn't go so well. Surely, Jerry wants to interview Joe Brady when he's available?

Yeah, I don't like him, but he seems to at least put good solid teams on the field. Seems like they would have interviewed him by now if there was interest, though. I hope they interview some more candidates. I'm not a fan at all of Schottenheimer because of his total lack of creativity as OC, even though McCarthy called plays. The offense seems really stale. On the bright side, he might at least prove to be a better game manager than Mike, wouldn't be a shocker. So it could be worse, especially with a short term deal that Jerry likely wants. It also might keep the better part of the defensive coaching staff in place. Maybe he would bring in some younger offensive coaching talent to help out. I hope they're still looking and making calls and interviews. They can do better. Even Wes Phillips would be worth a look, if he can bring anything like the Vikings offensive look and help the qbs get easier targets and spread the ball around, and beef up the running game.

Nobody wants McCarthy. Except maybe Jerry? I would rather have him back and replace Schottenheimer than hire Schottenheimer as HC. But maybe he wouldn't be as shitty an HC as OC.

Schottenheimer seems like he's one of the biggest problems. The offense is so predictable. But I guess his name sounds like a decent coach. I'm going to keep believing this is a tweener interview until they line up a more serous candidate. I mean, if you have to name an incumbent, Zimmer, or Al Harris, maybe. The defense was coming around, and Zim wasn't a horrible head coach for the Vikings.
