So there's a "loop" that I walk routinely around my neighborhood (technically it's a there-and-back) and I always bring my phone and find a podcast to listen to. My phone (samsung galaxy s23) has a fitness app with a step counter that I always leave on and so I get to see how many steps I've taken and what the distance was. Well... I did my usual walk earlier and just checked my fitness app and saw my steps for the day and distance and I'm like... there's no fucking way that's right. It seemed way light. So... I actually mapped it out here https://onthegomap.com/#/create Sometimes I tack a little distance on at the end. When I don't add any distance it usually clocks in around 3 miles. When I do tack on a little extra it's about 3.5. Well... the short version is actually 3.5 miles, and the long version is 4. Posting in case anyone does anything similar to track steps or distance. You may want to double check using an actual map - you might be doing more than you think.
I just went through the top 10 on3 from 2023-2027 and here are the cities with 3 or more players: Dallas -7 NYC - 6 Phoenix - 4 DC - 4 Atlanta - 3 That's not a very exact science - especially because a ton of those kids play a couple years or more of HS ball at various academies scattered around - but yes, in terms of where elite basketball talent is from Dallas is stacking up with every other city in the country right now. And that's with FW and its suburbs contributing 0 in those 5 years. Drop it to 2022. You pick up Cason Wallace (Richardson) and Keyonte George (Lewisville). Xavier Young (Lewisville) is on the fringe in 2028 at 12th. Beckham Black (Duncanville) is 13th in 2027. Yeah it's been... pretty ridiculous lately. And they are panning out. Of the 5 from '22-'24 all 5 are getting real minutes in the NBA. Not sure what the fuck is going on in Houston.
I agree. 72-76 feels like the right number. It's funny after any team loses a bad game watching the fanbase meltdown. Like... hey guys... every single team in the league has fucked up and dropped really shitty games. It's like no one ever checks the standings or results.
Have to see when he comes back and what he looks like when he does. Sometimes stuff like that can throw a wrench into things. Especially if JB gets sensitive about his touches.
Some big picture stats stuff. Adjusted net rating. Strength of schedule so far - sorted easiest to toughest. Few thoughts: Virtual certainty that the title winner comes from the current top 8 in NRtg/A, and no one but OKC and Denver have better than 15 to 1 odds right now on FanDuel. Denver has dropped some spots with Jokic being out but has continued to win close games and preserve their record. OKC is still the team to beat but has shown some chinks in their armor this season. I'm not sure we need to have the Jalen Williams discussion yet but it's bubbling towards the surface. They are 33-1 now the past two seasons when he doesn't play, were 8.0 points per 100 possessions better with him off the floor last season and have been 4.6 better with him off the floor this season. Those are damning numbers for someone who is supposed to be a top 15 player in the league. For reference, OKC is 9.3 points worse with SGA off the floor. They may have to dump that contract if they want to extend their window and keep paying younger guys - especially if they don't repeat. The Lakers are 5 wins better than expected, have a negative net rating and have now been jumped by the Clippers. I think they are a pretty good team with everyone healthy but right now don't appear to be anything but a 2nd round exit at best. The Celtics (and the East in general right now) are difficult to sus out. They have thus far overperformed but you would think they need an 80%+ Tatum to come back before the playoffs to really threaten a Finals run. That said their coach is crazier than a shithouse rat and due to that I can't count them out of anything yet. (anyone know if he's a fan of cheese enchiladas and big ole women?) I'm not sure who the biggest mess is between the Knicks, Cavs and Magic but they are all trying to outdo one another. If I'm the Pistons I think I just stand pat and dare anyone else to win 4 out of 7 against me. Denver and Detroit have played the easiest schedules in the league so far. We'll see if their records hold up down the stretch. Charlotte is quietly climbing the ladder and could potentially be a tricky first round matchup for someone if they can get out of the play-in.
I wouldn't want to see Memphis lose their team. Would rather they push that owner out if it comes to that. New Orleans is the city that barely deserves a team who you would want to move I think. They don't give a fuck about anything but LSU and the Saints down there.
"It was implied that former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel opted to withdraw from consideration based on this uniquely cumbersome process." Lol. McDaniel is like "yeah fuck this. I'll just go live in LA and be Herbert's OC.""
I honestly don't get it. You get one of the best defensive players in the league and a young, Pro Bowl quarterback. Coaches should be lining up for a chance to coach those guys.
