Unfortunately, I do not have an enemies list, but broadly speaking, unleashing a barrage of personal attacks on someone for simply expressing a diverse point of view is a decent proxy. Similarly, the common ad homs just serve as a means to label and dismiss as opposed to engage. It is much easier to label someone a racist or a communist or anti-something as a means to dehumanize, so one does not feel like their ideas warrant consideration. For example, I was opposed to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and I certainly did not appreciate being labeled "unpatriotic" although I'm certainly well below average in that department. Just because oppose war does not mean I do not like America just like opposing illegal immigration does not make me a racist. Oh well, I think I've chased that rabbit well off the path. FWIW - I was quite enjoying our conversation until a couple of turds interjected with insults at me, which I do not always respond with my best self.
  2. It's crazy how these teams and franchises talk parents into spending $5-$10K/year on pre-pubescent kids playing "select" sports. I have a friend who has been doing this since their sone was 6, and both parents are sub-5'6" ... it does not take a rocket scientist to realize unless he's the mailman's kid, he's not going to be big enough to be a decent high school or college player. If they would have saved all that cash, they would have had college paid for. I think most true experts agree well rounded athletes ultimately excel anyway above one-sport focued kids, but the guy pitching you the select team wants a bunch of your money and all of your kid's free time.
  3. Adults have really screwed up youth sports (Capt. Obvious). The world was better when kids played in city- or YMCA-sponsored leagues and could play 3-4 sports / year without having to specialize at age 5 (Get Off My Yard!).

I will if I ever seem them seeking to silence anyone who disagrees with them. I may have missed it, but I have not read them seeking protection against being exposed to diverse points of view.

Pardon me for being able to discern the difference between attacking a person and dismissing an argument. Just because I may not agree with a particular person on a particular issue does not mean I feel the need to call that poster names. There are a lot of people I respect and admire on both sides of the aisle with whom I disagree on particular issues. We seem to not celebrate that ability too much these days. It is much easier to label and dismiss than to thoughtfully engage.

Similarly, starting a post with - "And there is a reason you don't actually engage any of the substantive responses; your ideas are hollow and cannot withstand any amount of critical thought" - does not signal any serious attempt at seeking to understand much like calling for banning anyone with diverse thoughts. I love freedom of speech and diverse points of view and do not appreciate people who do not. I think it one thing that makes America great. Usually beginning a comment with some vague attack about another poster is usually the signal fo a closed mind.

I believe it is one of the windmills a lot of posters here chase on a daily basis.
  8. Kyle replied to gsoda3's topic in Cloak Room
That's probably right. But there are a lot that seem really afraid of diversity. Otherwise, why call everyone names that disagrees with them?
  9. Kyle replied to gsoda3's topic in Cloak Room
Because posting things like this - "God damn you're fucking retarded. Go back to chewing gravel you nimrod" - does not signal a mature, intelligent poster seeking a real conversation. Calling people names and telling other posters what they are or what they think I do not find helpful or affirming. It might make you feel better or tougher, but I does not signal a genuine intellectual curiosity. BTW - my question was answered and I responded to the person that answered it.

No. I am not intimidated by diverse points of view. I actually appreciate it unless most of the brown shirts here.
  11. Kyle replied to gsoda3's topic in Cloak Room
Glad bullying makes you feel good. Let's not have any diverse POV. Have fun at the brown shirt holiday party. If you'll review the thread, I'm not the one constantly personally attacking anyone who disagrees with me. I'm having a conversation with someone and random regards inject stupid comments, so they might get stupid replies. Some people tolerate diversity more than others.

  14. IMHO, the Great War should be given primacy to the mindshare and focus given WW2. Many more lessons and ramifications from it than other modern conflicts.
  15. You sure seem to spend a lot of time on it insulting people with diverse points of view.

Do you not think we should adopt best practices from other countries? I forever hear about being like this country or that country in regard to different issues.

You can tell by the Bronx Sarah Palin thread that leftie extremists do not understand math, economics, or consequences. There is a reason only 1-2 left wing extremists on this board engages in anything other than emotional name calling and ad homs.
