Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
Being this certain that QE won’t have a meaningful NFL career is just about as stupid as being certain that he will be a hall of famer. The truth is, none of us has seen a large enough sample size to know for sure what he’s going to do at the next level.

Texas vs iowa state - 7pm on Fox
Yep. Getting your 10th win in the 14th game of the season isn’t nearly as impressive as getting it in the 11th.

Oklahoma @ Kansas 11am on FOX
I know this has probably been answered elsewhere, so please don’t neg me for asking. But do we need for OU to win this game in order for us to make the Big 12 title game? Or are we in no matter what as long as we win out?

Maalik Murphy unfucked Duke, works his next miracle at Oregon State
I could honestly see this happening. Everyone, including BYU, is expecting Sark to come out with a run-heavy to protect MM in his first start. I'd love to see him draw up a cool play-action deep ball for the first play.

Maalik Murphy unfucked Duke, works his next miracle at Oregon State
I'm too lazy to make a complete list, but throughout our last 15 years of misery there have been many teams that were successful even with their backup quarterback on the field. We lost quite a few games to backup QBs, and we've even seen teams win National Championships with backup QBs (Ohio State and Bama). So here's how I see it: Our head coach is apparently "The QB Whisperer", and our backup QB is a guy that's been on campus and learning from this "QB Whisperer" for almost two full calendar years (Maalik enrolled in January 2022). If we can't successfully navigate this situation and win at least 4 out of the next 5 games against BYU, KState, TCU, Iowa St, and TTU (all of whom are having down years), then Sark is not the answer and the sad reality is that we will probably never be a relevant football program ever again. Yes, I still want us to win out and get to the CCG, but I think 4 out of 5 is the realistic bar considering that would give us our first 10-win season since we fired Mack. I'm not happy Quinn got hurt, but I'm at least somewhat excited to see what we really have in Sark as far as quarterback development is concerned. Our remaining schedule is soft as baby shit, so if he is as advertised we're going to be just fine.

Last year’s injury was to his left shoulder. Yesterday was his right shoulder.

Texas Bye Week 2023
Malik is also by far the biggest skill player on our team. You don’t have to be athletic to be good at a QB sneak, but it certainly helps to be bigger than 6’1”, 195 lbs. Look up Tom Brady’s stats if you don’t believe me. Also, you’ll never convince me the play against Bama wasn’t a trick play. JT stopped behind Quinn and put his hands up under Quinn’s ass like a QB does under center. Quinn also dove forward without even attempting to grab the ball off the center’s hands. I don’t have personal knowledge of the play design/call, but I watched the slow motion replay enough times to be convinced that was a trick play.

Texas Bye Week 2023
One thing I’d love to see in the second half of the season is a better package for short yardage situations. The QB sneak is the one of the best plays for those situations, but I can understand why we’re not eager to do it with a 195 pound quarterback. I’d love to see us run Malik out to take those snaps, and I think we could have a very successful “tush push” formation (even though I hate that name) with our big bodies. Plus opposing defenses would always have to respect the possibility that we could roll Malik out of that formation for an RPO. Either that, or I’d love to see us try that trick play we tried against Bama (snap the ball through Quinn’s legs to Sanders). Our inability to move the ball 1 yard on 4 tries was obviously a glaring reason we lost to OU, so I think it’s likely Sark will draw up something new for those situations in the second half of the season.

Texas Bye Week 2023
I knew not everyone would agree with me, but damn that stings. I stand by what I said, though. I'll just clarify one thing: I didn't go into the game hoping we'd lose. I just meant after all the weaknesses that were exposed throughout the game, I'm glad we're forced to focus on those issues and find a way to fix them. If we run the table including a rematch victory in the Big 12 title game, there's no way we won't collectively look back and think of the loss as a net positive on the season. In addition to our weaknesses that were exposed, look at all of the bulletin board material we've gotten from OU since the game ended (Texas fears OU shirts, etc.). Maybe I'm wrong and the loss will derail our season, but I'm still optimistic that it'll fortify the team and lead to a butt fucking in the rematch. We'll find out soon enough if I'm right.

Texas Bye Week 2023
I might sound crazy, but hear me out... I'm happy with where this team is right now and I'm actually glad we lost to OU in that fashion. If we had come up with a defensive stop after our final field goal, most of our team, coaches, and fanbase would have come away from that game thinking we're a gutsy team that found a way to win at the end of a game where we didn't play our best. Of course there would still be concern about the mistakes that were made, but overall the mindset across the board would be positive and we'd be going into the bye week feeling confident and comfortable. Instead, we all came away from the game realizing there are some glaring areas where we HAVE to get better if we're going to win out and take the Big 12 title (pass rush, penalties, red zone offense, etc). I hate to sound like Mack Brown's "winning too much is bad for the kids", but in reality it's true that success is a terrible teacher. Instead of going through the bye week thinking we're good enough and can find a way to win no matter what; we're going to spend it focusing on those weaknesses and finding a way to get better. I'm predicting that the loss to OU is going to be a net positive for our season, and we're going to win out including the rematch in December.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
One thing that's going to be required in order for us to be "back" is having a great quarterback AND great receivers. That means sometimes the QB will throw a perfect ball and make it easy on the receivers, and sometimes the WR will make an insane catch and make it easy for the QB. It's a good thing that we have both. Not a bad thing.

2023 Texas @ Alabama - 6pm on ESPN
SIAP, but I was at the game and noticed two things that made me smile. The first was the fact that Bama featured Marcell Dareus on field before kickoff. That was a total troll job by them, as Marcell was obviously the one that put Colt out of the National Championship game. The second was during the TV timeout after Bama took the lead for the first time, they played a hype/highlight video on the jumbo-trons. That video very clearly featured a close-up, slow-mo replay of the play that injured Quinn in last year's game. It was plain as day. Both pretty lame moves; especially the replay of the Quinn injury, but it just made it that much sweeter that we kicked their ass.

Let's talk about opposing fan bases in the SEC and the horns down ...
I actually had a decent conversation with some Bama fans on Saturday about them doing the horns down. They asked me what I thought about it, and here is basically what I said to them "It doesn't make me mad that y'all do it. I just think it's pathetic. Honestly, I think I would be embarrassed by it if I was an Alabama fan. The horns down is a Texas A&M thing, and y'all are basically aligning yourselves with them by doing the horns down. At this point, y'all should hate A&M almost as much as we do, so copying their tradition is embarrassing." The guys I was talking to actually felt like that was a good point; and that was BEFORE we pushed their shit in. If we can keep up the level of dominance we showed on Saturday, I'd honestly be surprised to see so many other fanbases doing it. We know aggy will always do it, but I think fanbases with some sense will realize "we look stupid as shit doing this while they're fucking us up". We'll see.
