This move will also help Kellen Moore. He needs some exposure to more than just the Garrett/Linehan offense that he's been shackled with over the past decade plus.
I hope they pick up an offensive mind from the Chiefs, 49ers, or Rams staffs. Shit I'd settle for the Bengals or Dolphins staff as well. Someone who knows how to incorporate rub routes and knows how to scheme WRs open.
He had an absolutely outstanding EYBL season last spring that really legitimized his rankings and that's the consensus opinion among all ratings agencies.
Actually it's not. He's a legit top 50 player. Big combo guard who shoots fairly well and plays great defense. He's a tier down from Cason Wallace, but he's a similar player. The fact that people hate his father doesn't make him a 3 star player.
I was specifically speaking to your comments on our offense which has empirically been light years better over that time period since Beard's been out. Beyond that it's fucking college basketball. I say this every year if you watch enough college basketball you realize that even the best of them suck periodically during games. Especially if the only other form of basketball you see is NBA basketball. They all get stagnant with off ball movement frequently during games whereas in the NBA the ball and the players are constantly moving and cutting.
This is what Morris should be doing. To the point of actually forcing it. He's so inside his head right now and is just an observer on the offensive end of the court. He's the sort of talent that could put us over the top if he were ever to reach his potential this year.
I like Oats & Mussleman as well, but judging by how most of us viewed Shaka's offense I'm not sure we'd stomach a lot of what Oats and Musseleman do much better when we're watching them up close night after night. They're teams like to launch the 3 with reckless abandon as well and can get stagnant with their movement when they're not hitting from outside. The only they do that is somewhat different from Shaka is get to the free throw line (this is particularly true of Oats and less so of Mussleman). And of course they do what Shaka is doing now, but didn't do here for whatever reason which is force the tempo.
Lloyd is my number one choice
For one, I'm fairly convinced that by continuing his current recruiting protocol of going after the best available Euros and supplementing that with National top 100 Texas high school players he'd kill it here. And every now and then he'd probably get a National top 5 Texas kid. Let's face it, we're not the most sophisticated college bball fanbase. A nice shiny object of some outstanding offensive basketball to go along with a consistently top 5 to 15 ranked team would have Moody packed night in and night out.
Morris needs to stop shooting 3s. He needs to go to the hole every other time he has the ball and force the defense into vulnerable situations. He's too athletic to sit on the perimeter and be an observer of the game on the offensive end.
All of those screen plays out of 2 back sets like the one to start the Bama game came from Marion's Go-Go offense concepts. Our most productive personnel package this season was out of 2 back sets, which again was due to his influence.
