2021 NBA Offseason Thread: Business as Usual? -- Trades/Free Agency/Retirements/Etc.
Yeah people struggle to reconcile the dissonance that takes place when people have good, often loving, and respectful relationships with black individuals yet exhibit racist views towards blacks as a whole or as a demographic group. Shit, even David Duke loved his black nanny growing up. People are complicated.

Greg Brown
Looks like he improved his shooting form. Looks a little tighter than before and is out front instead of next to his ear.

I guess I'm old but I can't get my mind around these kids today. The idea that for my senior year I'd leave my high school where we competed for a state championship to go to a made up charter school where I spend a year competing for absolutely nothing is something I'd not only never consider but a move that I couldn't even conceive of.- The 2021 NBA Draft
Wieskamp registered a 42" vert, exceptional speed and lane agility times, and a 6'11+" wingspan on a 6'5" frame. Duncan Robinson (and Miami for that matter) wishes he was Joe Wieskamp.- Jericho Sims
Jericho was a consensus riser after the combine. He's getting a lot of buzz from not only his testing but his play on the court during scrimmages over the past 2 days. Trying to find his stats.- 2020 - 2021 Dallas Mavericks: That motherfu*ker in Dallas is coming
I like Jake but he's starting getting on my nerves with this bullshit he's been spinning. There's situational sets and roster adjustments that require acumen that your top tier coaches routinely exhibit. With each passing game during these playoffs Budenholzer (among others) reveals himself to be woefully lacking so this notion that coaches just roll the ball out without any demonstrable effect on the game is nonsense.- 2020 - 2021 Dallas Mavericks: That motherfu*ker in Dallas is coming
These are actually outstanding moves by Kidd. In the 1st one he creates a timeout when the team doesn't have one and in the 2nd video he draws a tech on the opposing teams' coach in a 2pt game with about a minute left to play. A coach who can think on his feet and whom hopefully polished off some of his other issues while working under Vogel. Can't remember the podcast, but because it was Jared Dudley I'm going to say it was Zach Lowe who routinely does a yearly post season interview with Jared Dudley because he's exceptionally engaging for a bball player and often unveils behind the scenes stuff people like to hear . Anyway he was talking about Vogul and the Lakers staff after the first season with Lebron and how well prepared they were. He specifically described an early season scouting session where Lebron was so damn impressed he literally stood up and started clapping after the session and repeated "that's a good fucking scout. Damn good scout. God damn, that's a good scout!!" over and over.- 2020 - 2021 Dallas Mavericks: That motherfu*ker in Dallas is coming
Just came to post this thread. It really adds color into a part of the business fans like us don't consider at first glance.- Kai Jones
That's only +3 on the wingspan which is a little surprising. His actual arm length doesn't appear to be all that short so his shoulders/frame must be hella narrow.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
I thought his college teammate (forgot his name but he's Mutumbo's nephew) would be the former Seminole to pop for the Clippers. But I'm not even sure if he's still in the league.- 2020 - 2021 Dallas Mavericks: That motherfu*ker in Dallas is coming
Much like players, coaches can improve and develop as the years go by. Kidd became a HC immediately after he retired. That lack of apprenticeship prior to becoming a head coach definitely limited him and probably instilled a bit a hubris on his part. He famously had a falling out with Lawrence Frank in Brooklyn where he was clearly in the wrong. Spending time on the Lakers staff assistant where he was probably much more receptive to the back and forth suggestions/discussions of his fellow assistants hopefully gave him some insight into providing a better environment for his future staff. That and the recent success of Nate McMillan and Monty Williams gives me a bit more latitude towards coaches who had poor showings in their previous stops.- Texas basketball '21-'22: Welcome Chris Beard
Id guess 06-07 & 07-08. Basically the years with DJ Augustin.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
I think you mean 84. That was the draft with Jordan, Olujuwan, Barkley, Stockton, and a few others whose names I'm forgetting.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
I disagree. I think the subtleties in basketball aren't as obvious as they are in football. Thus it's more difficult for laymen like us to clearly discern where coaching makes an impact. Baseball is probably similar.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
Jones was working as the VP of Basketball Ops when McDonough made those moves. I'm guessing there's a reason Sarver moved McDonough out and elevated Jones.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
Zach Lowe, Kevin O'Connor, and all the other ringer guys have consistently said that Phoenix has been the most well prepared team in the playoffs. And that Williams on the fly coverage adjustments have been flawless.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
Why? What did he have to do with hiring Williams or several of the free agents acquisitions Jones has made since becoming the GM (btw Jones was hired in 2017 so he was also there for many of the things you want to give credit to McDonough for. Not to mention he drafted Cameron Johnson who he was absolutely ridiculed for. As for Williams not being a factor in Phoenix recent rise.- Texas Basketball Recruiting Notes: Keep Austin Beard
I wonder if the knowledge that he won't be playing for Coach K diminish this offer for Black.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
You're joking, but I was back and forth between those two when thinking of a comp for him.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
Yeah he's a poorer shooting, more score first mentality version of Steve Nash.- 2020 - 2021 Dallas Mavericks: That motherfu*ker in Dallas is coming
If Simmons could escape from his mind fuck enough to reverted to some form of this again: Maybe a team could use him.- 2020 - 2021 Dallas Mavericks: That motherfu*ker in Dallas is coming
I was listening to the most recent Bill Simmons podcast and in discussing game 7 between the Bucks and Nets he started listing other game 7s that went to OT. That discussion caused him to reference the 2006 game 7 of the Mavs/Spurs series where he brought up his book of basketball podcast series and called it the best series of rhe decade. So of course I had to go back and listen to that episode. Fucking A!! I'd forgotten how exciting that win was to me. Despite or the eventual theft that took place in the finals that win over the Spurs still rates highly for me. Anyways it's a good listen if you're interested.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
The biggest hurdle he has is just attempting threes. Guys like Lonzo Ball and other bad shooters were at least willing to shoot them prior to improving their shot.- 2021 NBA Playoffs
Lopez is actually extremely effective in the post. Budenholzer, in his infinite wisdom, just didn't mix in any post touches for Lopez in his "your turn, my turn" offense. - Texas Basketball Recruiting Notes: Keep Austin Beard
