Every single advantage that people cite making Texas a great job can also be viewed as a disadvantage:
Advantage Disadvantage
-------------------- --------------------
Austin = fun Austin = distracting
Rich BMDs Meddling BMDs
History/tradition Expectations/entitlement
Huge salary Expectations
Passionate fanbase Demanding fanbase
LHN exposure LHN demands on coaches' time
Huge in-state talent pool Huge competition for in-state talent
Media limelight Media scrutiny
Did I forget anything?
The coaches of all rivals, major and minor, should be called. If we're not interested, we should pretend to be. Getting their salaries increased reduces the amount of money the schools can spend on competing against us.
To the people who place their faith in the power of the money whip.... Evidence is mounting that people who are already rich can't be money-whipped. Principle of diminishing marginal utility, Econ 101.
Also, if college football really were an activity in which you could simply buy your way to the top, would doing so really be worthwhile?
On the other hand, maybe Meyer is repulsed by the "soap opera" aspect of taking the job, which he would effectively be usurping from Herman. As long as we're guessing.
The idea that the team "getting COVID" has anything to do with the coaching situation is absurd. To believe that, you not only have to believe that everyone in involved in the decision lacks integrity, but also that players would go along with it (especially seniors) without speaking up.
WGAS who "would have won"? Chicago's star player pussed out and ran off to play baseball for two years. Championships are won on the field of play. The first requirement is actually showing up to compete. If Jordan had stuck around, he may have had a career-ending injury, or the entire team might have died in a plane crash. Or maybe just lost to Houston--even the better team doesn't always win. Nobody knows, and it's useless wankery to speculate. Houston has the skins on the wall, and that's all that matters. Their championships are just as legit as all others.
Well, shit. There it is, folks. The wokerati have made their intentions clear. If it's Meyer, there will be no peace until he's fired. University leadership (I don't care which one) is too fucking cowardly to stand up to this kind of extortion.
Money isn't an issue. But whether Texas can afford it politically -- that's another question. It certainly would be "bad optics" to be dropping huge sums on buyouts and hiring bonuses, while everyone else is suffering in austerity.
Hasn't stopped some other schools from pulling the trigger, though.
OL is the most important unit on the team, bar none. If you don't have an OL coach, you don't have shit. Until we properly prioritize this position (if it means paying an OL coach OC money, so be it), we will continue to suck.
You're seriously confused. This isn't "virtue signaling". If anything, it's "solidarity signaling". It's saying "I'm with you" regardless of whether you suck.
It's no different than gang signs, etc. Or do you think Bloods and Crips are also "virtue signaling" when they wear their gang's colors?
