His username here is the exact same as his instagram/247/utexas email/etc... It's clear he wasn't aiming for anonymity, or I would have used some discretion.
You wind up buying a printer? Just dropping in to encourage you do so for your kids. I can only imagine the cool shit I'd be doing now if I had started tinkering with 3d printing in middle/high school instead of discovering it my junior year at UT. It's now my favorite hobby, I sink a lot of time into it and learn a ton, from electronics to hardware to design. No guarantees your kids will take to it of course, but at the lost cost of entry these days (~$300 for decent kits), its worth a go.
I would also love to find a way I can share my passion for it with a younger generation, be that at some sort of STEM summer camp or after-school program. Moving to houston soon, likely some opportunities to do so there 🤘
Very old thread but I've got a prusa MK3, a couple other preassembled printers, and working on a custom built Voron (an open-source core XY machine) rn with 300x300x300 build volume. Been printing a lot of handouts for people at work lately, but for myself, it's been Voron parts, some Pi cases for other electronics projects, designing a pacman TV plug-n-play type game, and whatever else friends/fam/coworkers request that I think looks fun to print. Would be neat if this thread was more active!
Maybe it's a long shot asking here, but will there be any sorta surly tailgate or meetup? I would love to meet up with some other fans. I'm a 2018 engineering alum, was an OOS kid so no family around to go to games with, and most my friends were either nerds who don't watch football or have moved outta ATX already (plus ive been stuck in louisiana the last 12 months - finally TX bound again in 3 weeks). Have tried the Exes tailgates before but they are pretty rough if you show up solo.... Just looking for some fellow fans to hang out with on saturdays, and happy to bring plenty of beer 🍺🍺
