Bobby (IT) writes today that Riley Dodge's name has been mentioned as a candidate for the Special Assistant role but that IT has learned Dodge will not pursue that position.
That's a good question. Mitchell played in 3 regular season games and the conference championship game. Then he played in both playoff games.
The NCAA put out a notice they were creating a 'waiver' that would allow players to play in Bowl Games without effecting RS and eligibility.
If both playoff games count as 'Bowl Games' then Mitchell should have three seasons of eligibility left. Though he is likely one-and-done if he has a good year.
Mitchell played in 6 games this year including the playoffs. He got hurt in Game 2 and then was gone for the rest of the regular season (he played a couple of snaps in the 6th game of the season before aggravating the injury).
Bobby (IT) confirmed this morning that Fenner is a candidate and the 'name to follow' for the Director of High School Relations position.
Brendan Harris just started following Fenner.
Dodge's name was brought up on IT when talking about the Director of High School Relations position - but Nahlin said that it would probably have to come with the promise of a bigger role. A position like this might be a way to bring Dodge in and give him a chance to coach without making him one of the 11 spots on staff.
Not saying any of them were possibilities - but there were a few WRs that would have been nice to have. But - it sure looks like Johntay Cook and DeAndre Moore are much more ready to play as true freshman than last years pair of WR recruits - so if the shit does hit the fan they won't be completely overwhelmed and Texas won't be fucked if they have to play.
Just reposting what IT staff is writing. Per their sources Sark is looking for a little variety in his WR's (similar to his desire to recruit 'different' types of backs).
Nahlin had previously said that Bryant isn't 'that' guy. He said ideally they would have liked two WRs out of the portal and one of them would have been a longer guy who could stretch the field. Bryant would be an add as a solid all-around WR.
Bobby (IT) confirms that Texas does indeed have interest in the 5'11" USC WR Gary Bryant Jr now in the portal. Bryant won't be graduating until May so will not be transferring until the summer. Bryant was described as having average speed but is a precise route runner with good hands and the ability to make the tough catch, who after a very good 2021, fell out of favor with Riley and fell down the depth chart with the additions of Jordan Addison and Mario Williams.
Bryant still has three seasons of eligibility
Bobby (IT) reporting that we should hear about the hire of the 'Special Assistant to the Head Coach' as early as today, or tomorrow. Expect it to be an offensive minded-guy. The hire has nothing to do with Gary Patterson, though IT still think it unlikely Patterson returns for next season.
