OU Recruiting 2023: Blowing and Going
The problem with that sentence was the use of "they're."

OU Recruiting 2023: Blowing and Going
Good point. I think they've explicitly stated that they'll continue to recruit guys committed to other schools. I see the hypocrisy, but they're rationale is that OU is holding is that other schools don't view commitment in the formal meaning of the word so it's OK to try to poach commits.

OU Recruiting 2023: Blowing and Going
Venables strutting around the field with a microphone is reminiscent of a mega-church pastor in a Dabo-"Good Christian kids" way. The policy on commitments being FINAL-FULL-STOP is a very risk, tangible part of this. What Venables has said he wants is guys with good physical tools and smarts and mostly, "uncommon effort" (his mantra). We're going to learn if he can collect enough of these guys using this strategy. OU's going to have multiple NIL groups plus an attractive offense and defense so the resources are going to be there for him to be successful.

Ole Miss and Tennessee can tell you about how crime doesn't always pay. Back to USC. Use the google machine: OJ Mayo, Joe McKnight, Varsity Blues, med school dean, and Reggie Bush.

NIL Recruiting News Megathread
Probably purposeful that they copied the UT model, don't you think? It should mitigate (not eliminate) the influence of NIL for recruits looking at both schools. Getting Switzer to front it is also really smart too. OU's fanbase has predictable been very tepid about NIL so having a beloved elder lead the project licenses others to follow.

NIL Recruiting News Megathread
Per the mgoblog guys, no so far. The litmus test, per them, may be Hunter Dickinson's pro decision. Dickinson is their basketball center. He is a solid college player but has no NBA prospects. UM groups should be able to cobble together massive sums to get him to stay is school.

2022 Texas Softball - Locked and Loaded
Dolcini did better than any pitcher OU's faced the last two years giving up only 2 earned runs and only 4 base runners in each game. Even the run-rule game was tight until the big 5th inning from OU. UT acquitted themselves well this weekend.

Jordy Ball is amazing but may be illegal. Her hop off the mound is very controversial.

Jimbo 2023: Watch.The.Tape.
For OU, Wisner and Dylan Edwards may be redundant. https://247sports.com/player/dylan-edwards-46111508/ Since OU only has 9 scholarship WR and wants to run 80+ plays a game, they'll need some portal WR or 4th quarters will be a disaster. This dude has several factors that may point to him being a good fit for the new Sooner offense: tall, regional, and experienced. Added bonus, per his Twitter, he's hyper-religious and into seamoss as Covid therapy.

Jimbo 2022: Balls To The Face
The recruiting rankings factor known in severe behavior-academic issues into their assessment. If these guys do get into trouble off the field and it's the continuation of a prior pattern, it'll be because the services didn't have access to that information. Giving 18 year olds a lot of money, status, and autonomy is one way to unmask tendencies toward maladaptive behaviors so we may see this effect. Yeah, that was a hope of many Sooner fans. But his Dad worked at A&M, the kids spent time in College Station and GA growing up. The kid knows what he's in for. ________________________________ Playing time is going to be the primary force pushing these DL out. So who do you think leaves first? Lucas and Steward are both out of state and competing for the same spots. I think one of them is the first to escape.

This points to the utility of an advisory group for D1/P5 CFP players that calculates maximum benefit of opportunities for education, playing, "NIL." It could be part of a negotiated package for CFP players and the NCAA/conferences for compensation, freedom of movement, etc. Of course, it would require trust and coordination and rational prediction of capacity, and all of those things are lacking presently. So we'll likely continue the present system with uninformed decisions.

Per the OU 247 staff, Waddle is headed to OU. I hope they're right about Hale, but those guys make this fanboy blush.

He blocked hard in 2021 but didn't really produce as a pass catcher. His catch rate was low (64%) on a good number of targets. In 2021, his TDs came vs Tech, Kansas, and Western Carolina (not a state!). He wasn't a burner coming out of high school (4.58 forty), and injuries have robbed him of athleticism. As a result, he struggled to get separation and win contested catches (including some memorable end zone drops). I saw a lot of people calling him a disappointment but not soft.

So much competition. Having been to all three, I'd vote all of the above in general on a typical day, but Waco may have the edge based on apocalyptic cults.

Non Texas Recruiting 2023
How many do you think stick? In the past, I'd assume these players are jumping on just to grab a spot, and then the attractive ones will trade up when higher P5 offers become available. The counter argument may be that this coaching staff is so tight with the community that they could hang on to guys that would usually flip to bigger name schools. Also, I could see the Tech community fully embracing the new world of pre- and post-matriculation "NIL". Is there a Tech expert here?

Kyler Murray - The Savior or Satan of OU Football
OU's gotten many of their recent QBs from Texas. Texas has so many college football options to pick from that it may take a contrarian personality to leave Texas. So you may be selecting from a prickly personality type to start from. He's a hyper-religious, but Trevor Knight seems like a normal person. People who knew him as a high schooler liked Caleb Williams. Neither UT nor OU fans (mostly) like him much now.
