Texas Recruiting Notes 2021
While I appreciate the warrior mentality of Caleb, I wouldn't classify him as a good/great TE. Perhaps that's because he spent half his years on the defensive side of the ball. What I appreciate most about Caleb is he was a football player. I think HtownHorn had it right in Finley and Irby (before injury). I can hardly imagine what Finley and Colt would have done if he stayed another few years - he was truly in a league of his own, even in the Pros.

2021 TE Gunnar Helm
I've only watched the highlights but what caught my eye was his blocking skills more so than his ability to get open and create space as a receiver. As pointed out, he was mostly blocking smaller players. But, it was impressive to see him block and lock in on guys in the open field especially at his size. He seemed more mobile as a blocker than receiver, and imo, displayed very sound technique that you don't see very often in HS. His highlights remind me a lot of Cade who showed a lot of promise as a True Freshmen before injury. I am by no means writing Cade off.

Nah...I can make it without college.
x There are some poems and short stories that resonate with me and will stay with my for life. Though I've only read the more memorable poems of his, they are pure greatness. I'd be interested in learning more about his personal life. Or maybe not - bunch of great authors/poets and even mathematicians that went through great suffering.

Surly Game time: Can You Figure Out this Puzzle
we used to do these puzzles in 5th and 6th grade. lots of fun. parents would engage at times. same rules regarding "yes" or "no" answer to questions. the other rule was we had 3 attempts to guess what happened.

What the hell has happened to Amazon
i remember going into BestBuy a long time ago, back when you could surf the internet on their computers. i remember talking to a sales associate and showing them how i could easily find better pricing by searching Amazon using their computers they were trying to sell. pretty sure they took away internet privileges shortly after that.

What the hell has happened to Amazon
i hate using this analogy, but Alibaba is Amazon on steroids. They supply businesses and consumers and cut out many of the middle man. I hate/love that i'm invested with them.

What the hell has happened to Amazon
they are in so many more markets than that. they are a conglomerate monopoly. there's a nice graph showing their markets and competitors that really shows their reach (will update post if i find it). most underrated market imo -- cloud technology. updated -

What the hell has happened to Amazon
I bought what I thought to be a digital print of a famous painting. Turns out it was an actual painting and absolutely terrible replica. So, kind of a reverse knock off. Other than that, I haven't noticed any fakes either.

What the hell has happened to Amazon
Alibaba is using AI (and maybe blacklisting sellers) to fight counterfeit products. They claim to be better at it than Amazon. And they're in China. I read an article a while back that indicated they can track counterfeits back to the manufacturing facility. Wonder if Amazon will follow their lead.

2021 RB Jonathon Brooks
I feel the same and hoping for the best here. Stoops, Steve Edmond, and that RB who threw the hook'em at Rick Perry have tainted my view.

Had no idea Herman's dad died in a homeless shelter at an early age. Gives me some perspective on his character.

Can we all agree that any lab (anywhere) studying viruses that could cause a pandemic should be located in the middle of nowhere, like a nuke test site. Is that too much to ask?

Markets still falling like whoa
i think an important indicator that hasn't been discussed much (if at all) is: where is China in terms of opening things up with manufacturing? that seems important, ya know, since we depend on them so much. i did see an article a few days ago saying the factories are at, or close to, full capacity and even making up for losses over the past few months. not sure how much truth is in that.

Markets still falling like whoa
i have a hard time understanding that, if the market is forward thinking, how could most not be priced in at this point in time to some extent. algs generally get better and more precise over time, and even if this is a once in a lifetime event, there's been plenty of time for people to plan ahead. this has been a slow burning recession and somewhat foreseeable, unlike any before. now, we are seeing less volatility and you'd be ignorant to not expect upcoming earnings to take a huge hit. I consider that a form of "pricing" in (people expecting earnings to miss). that said, i don't know shit, am usually on the wrong end of trades, and don't trade futures.

Markets still falling like whoa
good info - had no idea about the acquisition. definitely keeping an eye on this one. the article linked above shows 28 states where sports betting is currently (as of January) not legal but legislation has been proposed.

Markets still falling like whoa
damn that seems like a good one. i didn't even consider them having a ticker. that being said, they are at an all-time high. their stock has more than doubled YTD. by "legalized gambling", do you mean once things open up post-Covid or new legislation being passed? edit - looks like you're definitely referring to new legislation or a lift on bans. Here's a good overview of state-by-state from January: https://www.cbssports.com/general/news/wanna-bet-heres-where-all-50-states-stand-on-the-legalization-of-sports-gambling/

Name drop a former college football player who people may have forgotten about
LaDainian Tomlinson comes to mind after not thinking about him in close to a decade. Wonder if others "forgot" about him.
