  1. Flawed absolutely. As best I can tell, you lose 3-2 it is the same impact as losing 13-2 in 7 innings. Vandy vs Texas in the SEC tourney. We both played UTenn. We got pitcher of the year Doyle. They got a guy with a 5+ plus ERA, WHIP around 1.5 and a losing record. Same impact in the RPI as best I can tell. On and by the way two weeks earlier, Doyle went 7 shutout innings with 12 Ks. No walks, 2 hits versus that same Vandy team. Also we roughed up Crossland from OU more than Vandy did a mere week later. The RPI and the SOS (again run differential has no significance) are the only metrics that Vandy has us beat. And the tourney in which they faced the 3rd worst starters for OU and Tennessee. The Ole Miss guy is not a starter and went 4 innings for his longest outing of the year.
  2. You and others, I’m sure the committee included, will reference the SOS and RPI. They are both a big circle jerk. The quadrants are bullshit. It’s difficult to buy into beating Mizzou on the road as a Quad 3 win. UCF is a good example of the shit representing the RPI/SOS. They are 20-5 in non-conference. They are 9-21 in the Big 12. They are 3-0 versus the ACC/SEC. 2-0 versus 40 win Stetson. Lots of Florida schools in that non-conference schedule. They didn’t even leave the state until conference. We cannot say those midweek game outcomes are different because the circumstances are different then ignore it when using a metric to help set the field. State of Florida champions. Big 12 second to worst team. Interesting that you listed those pitchers. Take LSU. Three of their 4 best pitchers are newcomers I believe. One from UC San Diego, one from Wofford, one freshman. One of their better hitters is from a lesser Utah school. Thats 3 guys from one bid leagues. Riojas and Spencer for us from smaller schools. Some guy named Skenes was from a nothing school. That Ace Reese was kinda mid at Houston. There’s a lot of guys out there that can be impactful. They’re underappreciated at the smaller schools. The truth is that if you want something useful it will have to be very elaborate. Not sure many would have patience for such an endeavor. You can’t treat baseball similarly to other sports because you don’t run the same team out there every day because of the pitching. Just using the SEC tourney as an example. We got Utenns #1 in their 2nd game. Vandy got their #3 while going with their #2, at worst. Those are in no way equivalent from a strength of schedule or win probability standpoint yet, to my understanding, the RPI/SOS treat them equally. As others have mentioned, if you can’t get to .500 in your conference, which should be the most important part of your schedule, then you best win your tournament. The committee can make some decisions to better the game. We shall see.
  3. Does that strength of schedule allow for weekend games versus midweek games? Does that strength of schedule account differently for a 3-2 loss versus losing via the 10 run rule? Virginia was 5 games over in conference play. In their first 7 games, they played 2 tourneys with 4 teams from the top 4 RPI conferences. They didn’t play FSU cause it was canceled. Of the top 7, they missed 3, not 4. One of those was canceled then they played 2 of the top 5 on the road. Of Kentucky’s first 13 scheduled games, six were against teams that won no more 25 games. The other 7 had no more than 18 wins. Those weren’t just poor teams they were from weak conferences. These were teams that have done absolutely nothing in college baseball. Virginia is 12 and 3 with two 1 run losses in their last 15. They won 2 of 3 at Georgia Tech. They won 2 of 3 at Va Tech. They swept Miami at home. All during this span. Kentucky is 6-9. Swept at MSU and Vandy. Swept OU. i do not believe that SELa or UTRGV would do better in the SEC. I do believe they should be rewarded for their efforts in comparison. If SEC teams continue to be rewarded for subpar efforts, then these other teams will never compete because the players will always have to upgrade for that chance. The Southlsnd has done well to only get 1 team. The SEC is the master at gaming the RPI. The Big East has figured that out the past few years. Maybe WVU and KU this year. It is more advantageous to schedule easy wins than to challenge yourself and risk losing a game.
  4. Just from D1s first 4 out and teams to watch, I’d hav Virginia, Xavier, SELa, UTRGV, and Cal Poly over them. if you have a losing conference record, you better do something in non-conference. They were 4 games under then lost their only tourney game. I view them and Baylor as a toss up. Baylor didn’t schedule hammered dogshit in the non-conference except for Sam Houston. But that is understandable given they’ve had 1st round picks and solid teams very recently. If they get in, you are rewarding terrible non- conference scheduling and allowing them to hide behind the SEC. They didn’t play 2 of the top 4 teams, went 1-5 against the other two.
  5. They lost to Lipscomb, Wofford, Murray State, Western Kentucky, Xavier. They were 1-1 versus Louisville. Miami of Ohio, Northern Kentucky or Wofford is their 2nd best non-conference win. I’m not sure what you’d call UNK with their 2nd place conference finish in the 3rd worst conference. Their first scheduled 13 games (two were canceled) were against sub-.500 teams. I could not tell you which conference any of those teams are in. Might even be a last place finisher or two in there. Actually, at least 3 opponents were last in their conference. Two more were last or last in their division. They were 4-7 in May. Swept twice. Lost their only tourney game when it may have been a must win. They don’t deserve to get an invite.
  6. You may be correct. That damn whistler should count against them though. For us, our draw will be fine. Maybe not ideal but to host the Regional and Super is the key.
  7. They shouldn’t. Theyre 13-11 in road/neutral games. Maybe they didn’t play the dregs of the conference, but they did play UF and the Aggies when they were playing like dregs of the conference. Since April 1st, they’re 5-2 in mid week games. Two 1 run wins (a 1 run loss). We are 16-7 in road/neutral games. We are 5-1 in midweek since April 1. They got swept at home by Pig. Pig swept us at their place. They lost 2 of 3 at OU including 1 run rule. We won 2 of 3 with the loss being a lost lead late. They swept UGA at home. So did we. They swept UK at home. We lost in 15 on the road. Of the top 4 SEC teams, they only played 1. At home. We played 2 including 1 on the road. That MSU team we swept on the road was 1 game behind UTenn and Bama (MSU won 2 of 3 at Bama). We finished 3 games ahead of them. Even in the SEC tournament, they got the #3 choices for OU and UTenn. We got the UTenn pitcher of the year. Any system that counts a game against a college #3 starter the same as the #1 pitcher of the year falls short. Vandy gets a bump because they swept the #39 Xavier. A Xavier that had a 5 game SEC stretch in early April. Lost by a combined 57-9. And 31-5 in the non-Vandy games. Best win is over Creighton, but they lost 3 to them. They’ve split with UConn. Swept by St. John’s.
  8. Jonah is 4 for his last 21 against SEC competition. Max is 2 for 18 in his return. Looks like Galvan is sub-.200 in May against the SEC. That’s better than Flores, but it isn’t great baseball. Any of our guys could step up and be the guy. I think a weeklong reset could be helpful for a number of guys. That’s probably not what Belyeu needs however. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us hit well next weekend.
  9. The conference folks should note I changed the channel because of it.
  10. I’m just messing with you. There’s nothing to worry about based on today. It’s a tourney format that’s nothing like any other. Matchups and tourney format dictate your pitching choices. Theres not much talk about UTenn not going all out to win yesterday since they didn’t start their #1.
  11. Not enough hit and Miss stuff.
  12. As best I can tell, Doyle and Arvidson had a decrease in their K/9 today. So guessing they just got lucky in those other 106 innings.
  13. Did UF move up in the RPI after beating South Carolina? The same USC that was 0-4 versus the ACC and outscored 31-16. Best non-con wins over Charleston and South Carolina Upstate. Lost 3 games by 17 or more. Got outscored by the Aggies 40-19. Gave up 46 to Auburn in 3 games. That South Carolina?
  14. Thought I saw UCF was 3-0 versus the ACC/SEC with about a 20 run differential. Top 8 seed worthy?
  15. Yes, it’s me being a smartass. Generally speaking, I stay away from posting here due to the pretty consistent bitching and ripping the dudes and their talent/abilities. So in particular on this night, I want to celebrate those guys that may damn well have the best two year conference record of any team in the country, certainly in the top 3 RPI conferences. 41 wins with maybe more to come. Winning 16 of 19 conference series thus far. All the while losing your #1 starter and potential # 1 starter in back to back seasons. Grubbs, Harrison, Duplantier, Howard, Hamilton, Whitehead, Tumis, Galvan, Schuessler, Flores, Borba, Farmer, Gasparino, Belyeu, Duplantier, Service, Mercer. I look forward to this seasons finish but also the development next year of those first year starters.
  16. I’m just thankful we got a big effort out of Tommy Farmer before we had to ship his non-SEC talent butt off to the Southland.
  17. I’ll add my two cents. Trust me when I say my response is more to keep treaty oak on my side rather than thatguy. Obviously the NFL is not an easier game, but success is measured a bit differently. The Dolphins fans to a point would be satisfied with year over year playoff appearances and a win here or there. However, what thatguy suggested in regards to Quinn and 5 wides is really not an option at the NFL level, at least not as a base offense. I would say the series of repetitions he’s had to date with heavy play action with two wides and a tight or two gives a better building block than what Gabriel has done to date for example. Maybe Dart, award, Shedeur too. He may not be a guy to carry his team. He may not be one to win shootouts. While the defenses may be better, the craziness and variations are less chaotic from week to week. There aIRR opportunities for success staying within the framework and getting Hill and Waddle the ball. There isn’t pressure to win every week to the same extent. Expectations have been reset. He only has to study the playbook and the defense. He is ready for challenge. Maybe. We will see.
  18. Yeah, you’ll have to forgive me for that cause it ain’t happening. Further/farther. Nope. Stuff I once knew gets hung up now much less things I never could get right.
  19. This is the good stuff. I’ll support it. From a distance, this is the type of guy that commands respect. Nose down. Stick with it. And finish the job. No extra fandom. Limited play time til this year. That’s kicking ass.
  20. From what I understood, Arch did want to sit and not be rushed on to the field so it was helpful to not have uncertainty to get him here. From all I gather, team is important so anyone above that is just biding their time. So I’d give them all credit. Meaning the team not just the QBs. Personally, I find it difficult to single any player out for recruiting. I’d assume our culture is a big part of the draw. I’d also assume there were a number of guys that were at the forefront of that culture. And it can’t just be one guy.
  21. Damn. Harsh. And just when I think I couldn’t you love you guys anymore you go and warm my heart. It’s like family. You piss me off then some stupid comment shows that redeeming quality in some of you. I am genuinely curious about peoples experiences and how it ties into their understanding of the game and try to dig it out but people like their anonymity. We need @WinningIsHard back.
  22. There’s been ample complaints about those guys. Quite often more negative than positive. But, yes, the QB amplifies that by a 1000.
  23. You’re going to have to do some reconciling for me here. First, Sark has NFL ties. He was OC for a Heisman QB with multiple highly drafted WRs/RBs. Presumably that was a draw here for Ewers. That draw for other QBs is here whether Ewers ever shows up, right? You referenced the draws for other offensive guys. We are now in year 5 of the Sark regime. 3 NFL TEs later, none of which Sark recruited. In year 5, we got a portal TE because we were not satisfied with our TE. WR. Worthy here already. Whitt here already. I guess maybe Mitchell but after 2022? I suppose Bond, Golden, Boldin. But none the less the high school pipeline has had modest returns. Year 5, and we’re still hitting the portal. I suppose the Oline guys that all committed about the same time, but there were certainly other factors at play. Conner, Majors, Jones were all here. The RB room. Pretty stacked when Sark arrived. Injuries impacted it last year. I guess #4 who has had somewhat limited impact thus far. Coburn, Ojomo, Sweat, Murphy, Collins, Broughton, DMO, Ford, Jahdae, Sorrell, Taaffe all were here. Then guys who contributed Gbenda, Blackwell, Thompson. Odd that Collin Simmons would come for one year to watch Ewers from the sideline. Perhaps he did some behind the scenes work to keep guys here. It’s all pretty convoluted with NIL and all associated with that. It is true that you change any variable about the past then the outcome changes. And we’ve had pretty good outcomes the past two years.

I tend to focus on the non - conference schedule so didn’t realize WVUSs conference schedule was weak. Their non-conference was pretty weak. The 10 team conference is as ideal as it gets. Really in the big 3 sports anyway.
