Cool stuff my neighbor catches in his live trap
The thing about ringtails is that they are damn near 100% nocturnal and I mean dead of night...not dusk and dawn - evolutionary reason they have such big eyes for operating at night. Unless you happen to disturb one, the chances of seeing one in the daytime are extremely slim. They also spend a lot of time up in trees so headlights while driving or flashlights while walking often don't pick them up and when you do pick up shining eyes, they're mistaken for a plain old coon in many people's guestimation. They're more common in the hill country than most people would think. We see them fairly often, but mostly when doing nighttime deer counts when we have q-beams spreading a wide light. Cool critter!! What's going to be fun is when your neighbor catches a porcupine.

Surly Thread of Business Owners/Managers, Etc. & Current Business Climate
Forgive me if this has been covered above. I lost track of this thread for a bit and haven't caught up. Once a PPP loan has been issued, has there been a final determination with regard to whether subsequent payments to 1099 or subcontractor workers can be used in the evidence for loan forgiveness (do these payments count toward the "payroll costs")? I know they were not considered for the calculation of the loan amount, but there was some debate as to whether they would be considered on the forgiveness part. TIA!

Shits going down with the Royals
If she’s going anti-Purdey, she made damn sure they were out of his reach permanently. This was the hill where she planted her flag.

Fitlump fucking won a Austin City Council seat, Now on to Congress 2026!

Shits going down with the Royals
Women are a dime a dozen for a guy like Harry....shit..... for any guy with pulse and a wallet. You never get "YOUR" Purdeys back. That should have been exhibit #1 when she asked him why her shit was in garbage bags on the manicured lawn in front of the manor. He should go vegan or whatever they call themselves these days and forbid her from wearing leather or animal skin of any kind....animal cruelty and such. He doesn't hunt game.....she doesn't hunt fashion. No Miu Miu shoes, no Birkin bags, no Fendi luggage. "Polyester, cotton, and plastic for you my dearest! For the sake of the poor animals, right?"

The Gun Owner’s thread
Some fine stuff coming up for sale in mid-June through https://www.poulinauctions.com/ Day one has some incredibly cool old NFA stuff - day two has plenty of Purdey, Holland and Holland, Pre-64 Model 70's, classic shotguns, and custom rifles - Everything from early Griffin and Howe to Gunwerks. Haven't really checked out the antique stuff on day 3 yet but a quick glance shows a lot of old lever guns and I'm sure plenty of SAA offerings. Lots of great stuff to scratch any gun-itch - even ones you didn't know you have.

Yep - and oh they are here for sure. I momentarily shared a deer blind with one in the cold, predawn hours years back. Probably the longest 5 seconds of my life to date.

Whole Life surrender
@TwiceHorn & @Nice Guy Eddie I wouldn't hold out as an expert and to be sure I don't have a dog in this fight one way or the other. I'm not in the industry nor am I a stakeholder, but I do have a lot of experience with insurance and its use in planning. My only statement regarding cash value insurance (whole, variable, universal, permanent - whatever you want to call it) is that it is a tool. A hammer is as worthless as tits on a boar when you need a miter saw, but in the right situation, there can be a place for the tool. The harm comes in when the product or tool is sold where there is no need for the use, nor is it the right tool for the problem. Now - to the question at hand.....to make the best decision, one needs to get some information. 1) What is the annual premium, balance of the loan, the interest rate, remaining net cash value, and net death benefit? 2) Is there a dividend being paid and if so, how is the dividend now being used and can the dividend be used to pay the interest in part or in full? 3) What is the owner's cost basis in the policy - amount of total premiums paid (not interest)? Taxes upon surrender are only due if the amount of the loan surrendered and any remaining cash value surrendered (paid out above the loan) exceed the premiums paid. If there is no "gain" then there are no taxes. Often times, considerable angst is generated over no or very few tax dollars - especially when talking about a small policy. If there would be a taxable gain (loan balance plus cash value surrendered exceeds premium, then there are a number of options. 1) Pay the taxes and walk away 2) Pay interest annually to freeze the loan 3) Apply the dividend to the interest and then the loan principal to freeze and or reduce the loan 3) Reduce the death benefit by restructuring the policy and wiping out the loan- Those would be the most common. The real answer depends on the policy, the insured / owner's financial condition, and the goals. Is the death benefit needed? Is there cash somewhere else that can be used? Is there someone else who can take over the policy? There is often a lot of emotion involved when one talks about life insurance and that clouds the discussion. What is needed now is an In-Force Ledger from the insurance company- showing the policy status and what will happen to the policy if status quo holds. From there you can see the clear picture and either make some decisions or seek advice.

Well, that one is pretty easy for the government to defend in the face of any criticism, as the general intent was to provide money to fund payroll which you wouldn't have had otherwise, therefore you wouldn't have had an expense to deduct. I wouldn't be shocked to see legislation that reverses that to provide a tax break window for those who kept payroll expenses rolling during that time, regardless of the source of funds. I wouldn't bet on it but I wouldn't be surprised to see some legislators push for it as part of some larger bill to come.

Don't sleep on Kahr for something in that price range. One good strategy is to also shop various websites that deal in police trade-ins. You can get some great values there and often upgrade to something that would otherwise be above your budget for a like new or gently used version. My experience has been excellent and a few times, the guns I've received (Sig 226's come to mind) appeared to be NIB and I don't think they were every really issued.

I'm An Alcoholic
I took a very neutral and non-confrontational approach to the conversation. I said nothing negative nor positive about his choice. All I could to is affirm that AA is always there and acknowledge the fact that he might not be an alcoholic if he hasn't really discovered that to be his own truth. I know getting preachy with him after the fact would serve no purpose. Had he called me prior to, I would have certainly advised against it but those weren't the cards I was dealt. As my grandmother used to say - "Those convinced against their will are of the same opinion still."

I'm An Alcoholic
One of my sponsees has decided to try some controlled drinking. Unfortunately he came to that decision before calling me first, but I'm not sure that would have mattered. At least he was honest with me when I called him Tuesday to check in. He's acting pragmatic about it although I don't believe alcohol cares about good intentions or future plans. He made no excuses. All I could tell him was that if he finds he can moderate and live at peace then that's great but if he decides he can't then he now knows what's available and that we are here with a solution. If he's the real deal, I hope he can make it back and pray he doesn't do any harm to others in the interim.

Well that's no fun. But, the practicality is understood. Buy the 10mm based on the money you'll save in initially buying the 9mm to save on ammo costs. That's how my gun mind logic works.

Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
All this home time has obviously given my wife time to look around and figure out shit she isn't happy with in our house. After fielding a couple of what she intended to seem as random and unrelated questions about "real estate" yesterday I knew what was up. As I went to bed last night I said....."If you decide you want to move, make sure to leave me a forwarding address so I can send you a Christmas card every year.....good night."

2019 Fishing - Bent rods and tight lines
Anahuac runs a close second. I used to fish there with an old coonass who would cover his arms, legs, and neck with marsh mud instead of using DEET.
