I just keep going back to our already awkward Thanksgiving this past year deep in the heart of Trumplandia. I did not bring up politics once, but I did overhear my brother say something to the effect of 'when the economy turns back on this Summer work will pick up'. I replay that sentence over and over in my head. What in the ever loving fuck did he read that made him think the 'economy was going to turn back on' this Summer? I know my family is mostly financially illiterate and have little to no investments, but everyone with a brain could see this coming. Work doesn't 'pick up' when people are losing 25%+ of their life savings.
It's unbelievable how many dumbass accounts I've seen showing the market down 2K points and blowing the time range out 30+ years acting like this is a nothing burger. You ain't seen nothin yet you fucking morons.
I'll never understand the $1K+ phones. I buy a new Pixel every 2-3 years for like $250 and it's perfect. Looking forward to $3K iPhones made in America though.
My kids were telling me about something called water pie that was made during the Depression. So I guess I'll check that out.
We're already more frugal than most for our income level. I'll probably finally cut back on streaming services. We hardly go out to eat as it is but will watch that. We probably waste the most on letting groceries get thrown out. Seems like there's some savings to be had or at least some better planning to do there.
I'm going to try and maintain our savings rate assuming we don't have a job loss or something else drastic. I really hope to keep retirement plans on track, but who the hell knows what's still to come.
I always like the bullshit commercials that throw out 'in this economy' regardless of what is actually happening with the economy. Just a perpetual rolling commercial forever.
