  1. Yes, I'm sure all of these people made a huge show of wanting to boycott the World Cup in (checks notes) Russia or the summer and winter Olympics in (checks notes again) Beijing. I'll bet it happened too. Want to make a point? Move the matches from Dallas and make the point as to why the other cities are keeping theirs - I don't think that should happen either, but there you are. There's not a city in Germany with a lower vote percentage for AfD than my (WC host) city's 8% for Trump. Honestly, none of these countries are going to stop trading completely with the US any more than anyone stopped trading with China; the market is too big and lucrative. If other countries want to make a point they should focus their trade on blue states, and blue states should form coalitions to make this happen. I'm sure Minnesota would greatly appreciate the boost right about now.
  2. Of course he's not going. The game is in the Bay Area. The teams will be from either Seattle or LA versus Boston or Denver. Bad Bunny is headlining the halftime show. The boos showered upon him at the Woke Bowl would be epic. I'm actually a bit sad about TACO in this case.
  3. The Oregon Ducks of F1 liveries.
  4. Wrongo only pawn in game of life.
  5. Yeah, I was also at that game; you might be right. "All I saw was purple. No names, no numbers - just purple."
  6. I was at the noted game in Husky Stadium, fairly near field level (the guy with the decibel meter was right in front of us), and not only was it painful, I couldn't hear a damn thing for two days after. The stadium was renovated since and the track removed; the seats are much closer to the field now. It would've been interesting to have gotten a measurement at the 2023 Oregon game, which seemed as loud (especially when they missed the tying kick at the death) even though my seats now are much higher up.
  7. Mussolini, Ceaușescu, pool or the pond. At least in Mussolini's case, Lake Como is a beautiful place to die. He's much more likely to get the Salazar (Portugal) treatment: slip in to a coma, awaken but not be told he was no longer in power, 'rule' (in his mind) for another two years. Portugal at least emerged as a full-fledged democracy after a bloodless military coup against Salazar's successor. I have very little hope that would happen here.
  8. My Danish g-grandfather (who could blow awesome smoke rings from his pipe smoke, which is all I recall of him at 3), would enjoy that feast - as would I - but the distinct lack of herring there would be a deal-breaker. (Danish pork is seriously good though.)
  9. Hey, don't forget us up here in the upper left corner, Denmark! We have the National Nordic Museum and it's easy enough to find smørrebrød and æbleskiver. Hygge as hell, and the weather will suit you. We'd be a good addition to the California deal and we'll even toss in Oregon if you insist.
  10. 🤣🤣 Been to all four - Camp Randall is a lot of fun as is Rice-Eccles. Madison is nice enough aside from that, but other than the game and the great street/house parties beforehand it was definitely the right idea to drive back to Chicago for the rest of the weekend. There was a lot more to do either in town or nearby at nearly every roadie in the old Pac-12. I'd love a home-and-home with Texas and so would everyone else I know here. Hope it happens. Former UW coach Darrell Royal would have wanted it that way.
  11. They're so dumb they didn't even notice the woke workforce seen on the torch - definitely some DEI shit going on there, amiright? (Of course, that's the actual culture of this country worth defending, which was the point of the original artwork.)
  12. 17/10 very good boy
  13. In the spirit of the thread, I think "ketchup" is polling higher.
  14. Yeah, I'll be there, mostly at events we have no chance in, and I'm sure I'll still be cheering for them (yes, unless I know they're maga).
  15. Yeah, maybe, but her district is trumpy as hell ("Alabama with scenery") and she's better than the maga chuds who held the district before. The district will slowly continue turning purple as the Portland suburbs this side of the river grow, and she can be replaced.
  16. É isso mesmo.
  17. https://fifa-fwc26-us.tickets.fifa.com/account/lotteryApplications It made me log in and enter a passcode they email you, but it did go to the draw ticket selection page once I did that.
  18. I live in a different part of the country than you, brother. There are still vestiges of that here and I know some of those people who are sickened by this and have changed their minds. I have residency in Portugal but so long as my state is sane and can keep its head above water I'll keep up the fight here. My utmost respect to Texans and others who don't have that yet. Understanding that is why I read this board (and DT).
  19. We're not alone in this regard. In any country - at least when the choice is binary - a baseline of 30-40 percent in any election is right to far-right. Marine LePen's freaking Vichy dad got 35% in French national elections and he ran to the right of her. The far-right Chega party in Portugal took a third of the vote in last year's elections, and this is a country that still remembers and celebrates the end of the clerico-fascist Salazar dictatorship 50 years ago. Some of those people, probably 20-25% of any electorate, are unreachable and I don't care about them. For now I care about reaching those who can be reached; we can go back to squabbling with them later so long as our common baseline is that fascism is right out in this country. Twenty years ago I'd have heartily disagreed with a lot of you on a lot of topics (family, friends, community here are all liberal/progressive historically) but would have happily done so over a beer or three. It would be good to get back to that with some of these folks.
