Texas Offseason 2025 - Archmania Is Upon Us
Yes. I still have PTSD from that last trip to DC. Dreary day, polite and unenthusiastic opposing fans, and I swear there was some kind of rain delay that caused everyone to get blackout drunk. But that might have been a hallucination.

OU Football 2025 - Cheated Its Way To a Backdoor CFP Appearance
Great analysis / content. Is anyone else struggling to reconcile OU’s talent and projection with how poorly they played in Dallas last year? The PFF grades, stats, and eye test in other games clearly show a lot of talent on the DL, and arguably in the secondary. I also respect Venables’s defensive game planning and expect that to improve this year, even though he does look like a desiccated husk of a youth pastor. But man, they looked terrible in Red River and were lucky the score wasn’t worse. Even in the first few series where they played the best and had a great script, they survived some Ewers overthrows and pocket anxiety. And when the game was still in the balance in the second quarter, this statically amazing defense got shredded in the ground by our statistically mediocre running game. This is emphasized by that great shot of RSJ tripping and falling down when trying to tackle Wisner (Bowen was out of position and out of frame). On the team outlook, I would argue that you’re slightly understating the talent on the DL, and maybe even too optimistic on their LB core. The DL is what A&M wishes they had, although MJJr will be comically negative and take playing time away from better players. On the flip side, Stutsman did a lot for that defense in terms of getting the team organized and being in the right spot even if he did not make a play. Texas game aside, he didn’t take many false steps and allowed the rest of the defense to play faster. I think they’re really going to miss him this season.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
A&M runs this play every year, so I doubt anyone on staff is surprised by it. Get a big target on campus, make a huge pressure push to secure a commitment, possibly offer a signing bonus incentive to shut down any future scheduled visits. It has to be done on campus in the moment of the peak high before the family goes home and realizes how weird college station is. They love doing this with DL targets but will do it with other stars like the WR from Georgia. The UT staff setting up a return uov to Texas immediately after the A&M OV seems like a great move. We’ll see if it works out and if the visit actually happens, but it’s better than phone calls and wishful thinking. At the very least, it increases the resources spent pressuring the recruit to shut it down.

Interestingly, from OTF it sounds like Georgia is not the primary competition here. Griffin is an Alabama battle, and for Rouse it seems like TN and Florida.

That is from the Times??? The level of fellatiating in that article is so absurd that I had just assumed this guy pitched himself fake questions he could answer.

NIL Recruiting News Megathread
This is a bit disingenuous. What exactly is collapsing? And what would you rather see as a Texas fan: 2015 or 2024? I reject the notion that returning to a “regulated” market with a small cabal of cheaters prosper is better than what we have now. In a vacuum, I would guess that no one on this board has a problem with a cap or returning college sports to a *truly* level playing field pre-pay for play. The problem is that environment is a fantasy that hasn’t existed since Nick Sagan put on his Alabama hat (if ever). Even assuming the currently proposed cap system won’t inevitably collapse, it won’t stop a pay-for-play strategy. It will just rewind the clock back 10 years where payments are made under the table only by those schools willing to roll around in the mud. We’ll never get a true level playing field where students decide on a program based solely on academics, coaching, and school vibe. If money is going to be a factor, I would rather see kids get paid more and have it all out in the open. These past few years have been too much fun to give up.

If these collectives are unscrupulous assholes, they’d probably try sending a strongly worded demand letter threatening legal action even if there is zero legal basis or chance they would actually follow through. I’m sure they’re upstanding folks, though.

Texas BBQ
Took a friend to Leroy and Lewis this week, and it was phenomenal as always. Evan was working scale, which was neat to see. For meat, we ordered brisket, beef cheek, and flat iron. All of it was 10/10. Tried the special bratwurst (not pictured) and it was not my cup of tea.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Texas extend their reach so far out of state for the defensive front four/five prospects, and it’s great. People called last year a down year in Texas for DL, and this year is even worse. Compared to this time last year, DL seems to be in better shape (knock on wood) as it looks like we are seriously engaging a larger number of “Plan A’s” and seem to be in better position with them. Kind of comical last year that the staff was putting a lot of faith in landing Kevin Wynn, who wanted to go to a culinary program (which we don’t have) and whose dad was a die hard FSU fan. EDGE, however, could go in any number of directions…does anyone have any idea how this will shake out? Dre Quinn seems like the only prospect that likes Texas as much as the staff likes him.

OU Recruiting 2026: Burnt Vegetables
Although the astounding level of grammatical errors, ignorance, and delusional homerism are delicious, we shouldn’t over look this unassuming gem: “if Bowen is who he looked to be his freshman season, then I’ll take our safety’s [lol] over theirs”. How often has a player reversed a regression without a significant positive change in circumstance? Usually you see players make incremental improvements before a sudden positive jump. Bowen wasn’t injured last year, he just played poorly despite being next to 2nd round pick Billy Bowman. OU’s coaching and scheme hasn’t changed, nor has their S&C program. There is no reason to expect material improvement. This is like LSU fans expecting Harold Perkins to return to freshman vs Arkansas form, except Bowen never even hit those heights.

Performing the mental gymnastics required to convince yourself that likes of Tristan Nickleson, Marcel Southall, and Kennedy Lewis were all just underrated diamonds in the rough really made it more rewarding to follow recruiting.

2020 DT Vernon Broughton
Future fans will see the high recruiting ranking and think this was a no brainer, par for the course outcome. His original recruiting ranking doesn’t tell the full story here. Easily overranked with a body type that was too big and slow to play edge and too skinny and slight to play inside. Languished for years under a shitty staff without a clear plan and direction. Finally got some good coaches and began to develop, but no one (in or out of the team) gave him a shot to make the league (rightfully so at the time). Got married, missed the spring game because of it. And just when folks were ready to write him off he hit the weights and the practice field with a vengeance. Became a huge disruptor on key plays and maximized his frame. Helped get us to the semis. Wild ride, but glad to see it. 🤘

Bobby and Gerry have also started throwing around comparisons to Dakorien Moore, which is an interesting development. Ignoring whether or not that’s slight hyperbole, it’’s a great comparison to make because Oregon already has someone in that role.

Have a friend in their AD so have some additional info amidst the current dumpster fire. Excellent kid and would be a culture fit here, similar impact to Trey Moore with better NFL measurables. High value on academics, but we all know how that goes when NIL gets big enough. UCLA is the favorite unless Texas blows them away or someone comes in with a godfather offer.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Is there some scuttlebutt about the dad not liking Texas? Despite the data point about going to the Tenn junior day over UT, there’s still a lot to like here with the visit history and “at least 50/50” doesn’t read to me like the “writing is on the wall”. It reads like all three of these kids play the same position.

“I never believed for a second I was being bullied,”
This is a terrible take. One guy is clearly going to therapy and trying to move past this ordeal because holding grudges and being perceived as a “victim” is not a good optic in the business world. I’m not going to dispute what Moose is saying now, but the word from those connected at the time was that this situation was incredibly fucked up and toxic. One would hope that one would be able to mentally toughen up when getting paid millions to play a game. But shitty work environments have derailed countless careers in every industry. I remember Martin as a good guy and glad he’s moving forward. But sure, Incognito is basically the same thing and totally well-adjusted:
