2019 Sugar Bowl - Texas vs. Georgia
It's just not a 2018 Texas game unless Sam has to lead a 4Q drive with the game in the balance

We can't get off the field on 3rd and long. And it didn't start happening today.

We're 12 point dogs. Just pointing that out. What we're doing here is...unexpected.

Up 17-0 on Georgia. Georgia has 8 total yards. Things could be better but I'm not sure how.

That 1Q went about as well as you could ask. I like how Herman prepares our team. We came out and punched them in the mouth.

So...about Charlie Strong at USF...
Makes as much sense as calling someone a great man for no reason, maybe. Take note, everyone. Newy is one of the good ones.

So...about Charlie Strong at USF...
But labeling critics as unfairly biased and unqualified to comment is an easy way to derail a conversation you aren't interested in having.

So...about Charlie Strong at USF...
I witnessed two conversations on other sites where people continue to trot out the old "Charlie Strong is a great/nice/good man" nonsense. Did he go around kissing babies and slipping people $50s for 3 years? Where did this narrative come from? I'm confused as hell about this.

The Athletic - College football leaders ready to discuss eight-team Playoff
Every year some fluke team wins a major conference championship. Seeing a team like that in a playoff with a chance to win the MNC makes the whole idea a joke.

Are SEC defenses really that good?
This is really the biggest difference. In the MB days we used to have really great d lines and that's what set us apart. No matter what offense you're up against, if you are in the backfield and disrupting plays in the first 2-3 seconds the opposing team is not going to be successful. That's why the 'highest scoring offense in the history of college football' managed 14 points against Florida and Leach's Tech teams would routinely get held to a TD or two by middle-of-the-road SEC teams. Their ability to get penetration with their down linemen makes all the difference. Beyond that they have some great talent here and there, but really people are just talking about Bama, LSU, and sometimes Georgia and Florida when they talk about "SEC defense".

Texas roster 2018
I love seeing all those redshirts on the lines. Bodes well for the future of the program

So...about Charlie Strong at USF...
You're making one of my points for me. This class is effectively the end of the Charlie Strong era, and our roster has holes because of his chintzy recruiting. Next year we'll have 2-4 senior starters on offense (if CJ9 and LJH return) and maybe 5 on defense. Under Herman we're finally building quality depth, especially on the lines, and redshirting players that would benefit from it. Next year almost all of our top contributors will be Juniors and below along with whatever transfers we can bring in. Then, as you say, we won't be a shoulder injury away from disaster. But that's where late Mack and Charlie left us.

So...about Charlie Strong at USF...
I understand the dislike for Mack Brown, even though I always appreciated him for the title and returning us to a top tier program. Yet people let their hatred of him get in the way of appreciating and properly respecting his accomplishments. What I can't understand is people dismissing criticism of Strong for actually being the worst coach we've ever had, and go digging for nuggets of goodness in the pile of shit he gave to us. Even worse are the people that carry water for the man. Especially when it's often the same people that hate Mack Brown with such passion.
