OU Recruiting 2026: Burnt Vegetables
OU 2000 also had freakish luck with injuries. Their depth was not great, so that was fortunate. I don't think a starter missed a single game. That just never happens.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
Quinn's arm never looked special to me. He threw a nice, catchable ball. Same thing with Simms. Other than throwing short passes as hard as he could, I never was wowed with his arm. When they put him on the radar gun at the combine, he was in the bottom half of participants.

If it goes to him, I am guessing Metcalf's heirs will filed tort claims and get it all.

I don't remember whether I posted about it. But I know a guy who was a GA with Herman at Texas and they are buddies. He was pretty adamant that Herman's personal demons would preclude any sort of sustained success. Tempered my enthusiasm about the hire. He said Herman might win big early if we were lucky but would burn out. Compared him to Billy Gillispie. Also said his wife was a piece of work. This guy liked Herman a lot but was concerned.

Agreed. Also felt like the last couple of years he would look really good early against what were good defenses (Bama, Mich). Then he would get banged up. And was not the same guy. Not saying he is a wimp, but he was not the same guy when he was walking wounded.

Weight Loss and Exercise Thread
You do protein shakes? I mix one up with coffee, ice, and a banana in the blender for breakfast every day. Has around 250 calories. Keeps me full until lunch. I also drink a Core Power with 40 grams of protein around 4 every day -- keeps me from snacking before dinner. I would have a very difficult time hitting my protein goals without the shakes.

My grandmother is 91 and still does kettle bell workouts. She has dementia which sucks. But if it were not for that, she could still do all sorts of stuff. She was playing golf with her club friends up until a few years ago until onset of dementia. She skied well into her 70s. An older friend of mine is 80 and his morning workout is to play 18 while walking the course. He looks 65. I decided to get into shape a few years ago when I turned 45 after several years of being out of shape because I want my 50s to 80s to be as good as they can be. I have seen to many people in their 50s that are in awful shape and unable to walk up a flight of stairs without getting short of breathe. I am not nearly as worried about longevity. As a believer, not worried about dying. But I do not want to be an invalid or unable to do the things I love outdoors. To me, health is about putting yourself in the best position possible to have quality of life. Very hard to do if you are obese, eating garbage, and inactive.

I agree with all of this. I hope he redeems himself also. I seriously doubt this kid is inherently murderous and evil. I think he did a really, really stupid and evil thing.

A little is fine on a burger. I usually just get mustard, pickles, jalapenos, and cheese for my burgers, For fries, a mayo and siracha blend is my preference.

Who is their Colin Simmons or Anthony Hill? Their defense scares no one.

2025 S Jonah Williams
Not sure how much choice he had. His kids used to go to same school as mine. I probably had breakfast with him once a week back then. He is just not built like a NFL player. I was shocked at his frame when I met him. Made Reggie McNeals bone structure look like a giant.

Even when I was in a hard core deficit to lose weight, I could find something decent that won’t screw up my day at pretty much any restaurant. Even fast food places in a pinch. Get a grilled chicken sandwich with mustard and skip fries. Mexican food places— taco salad and cut out cheese and sour cream while not eating shell and using salsa as dressing. Or just have them grill you up some chicken and slice up an avocado. Salads with vinaigrette and chicken or salmon won’t kill you.

Transfer Cycle 2024-2025 - Stop Being Poor
I’d like the Houston corner Wilson. But maybe the young guys have impressed the staff enough they don’t need him. BYU guy is more of a kick returner. Hasn’t fielded a punt since 2021. If we go after a return man, we need a punt returner more than a kick returner. One who does both well would be ideal. I’d still like a running back. Seasons are up to 16 games now. Two of our six are coming off catastrophic injuries.

Ski Season 2024/2025
Can't wait until next year. Driving to Montana for summer in early June. May check out A Basin for a day on the way there. Have never skied there in June.

Lane Kiffin to LSU?
So few coaches that are characters these days. Most are robots when they talk to media (don't blame them). So I appreciate the few who are like Kiffin.

We did not tolerate picky eating. If my kids chose to not eat what we were serving, they could wait for the next meal. Never forced them to eat everything on plate and tried to serve stuff we all liked (I won't eat Lima beans to this day because I hate them). But we would feign indifference if they did not want to eat. If you're hungry enough, you will eat and missing one meal won't kill anyone. It takes both parents to be on board. But we were adamant because we saw how some friends kids were way too picky and the parents would get so stressed.

It is going to get someone killed. Most likely the target. But it is also risky for cops. Doing it should be a crime similar to aggravated assault or attempted murder.

You will get no argument from me that public schools in this country have all sorts of mission creep that do not advance what should be the core mission. But we spend almost $15k per student. That should be plenty.

Weird how my kids in Haiti aren't picky eaters. Like Chris Rock said, "Hungry people ain't allergic to shit. You think anyone in Rwanda's got a fucking lactose intolerance?"

Who do you know who works minimum wage as an adult where you live in Houston? I did not know that was a thing any more. It has to be very, very rare. Wal Mart starts you at $14 per hour. The going rate for a housekeeper or nanny is now over $20 per hour from everyone I know. As for defunding education in Texas, not sure that has really happened. Maybe if we didn't have 15 administrators at each school there would be more money. Inflation adjusted we spend more per student now than we did 20 years ago despite stagnation in real spending due to 19% inflation which is now recovering -- from AI To determine whether inflation-adjusted spending per student in Texas public schools has increased or decreased over the last 20 years (2005–2025), I’ll analyze data from the provided web sources, focusing on Texas Education Agency (TEA), National Education Association (NEA), and other credible reports. The analysis will adjust for inflation to reflect real spending power and account for changes in student enrollment, funding sources (state, local, federal), and economic factors like inflation rates. All dollar amounts are adjusted to 2025 dollars unless otherwise noted, using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or education-specific inflation indices where applicable. Key Findings Overall Trend: Inflation-adjusted per-student spending in Texas public schools has increased over the last 20 years (2005–2025). Long-Term Increase (2005–2016): From 2004–05 to 2015–16, inflation-adjusted per-student spending rose by approximately 3.9% (from $9,086 to $9,442 in 2016 dollars), driven by a 28.6% increase in total spending ($50.3 billion to $64.8 billion) despite a 20.5% enrollment growth. Recent Decline (2019–2023): Since 2019, inflation-adjusted per-student spending has decreased by approximately $590 (in 2023 dollars) over the past decade, with a notable drop from 2021 to 2023 due to unchanged basic allotment ($6,160) and inflation rates of up to 19%. 2025 Context: Preliminary data suggest a slight recovery in state funding post-2023, but inflation-adjusted per-student spending remains below 2019–20 peak levels. Total spending for 2023–24 is reported at $14,257 per pupil (nominal), but real spending is lower when adjusted.

Protein shake for me. Work brought in BBQ. I ate smoked turkey and some pickled carrots/japs. Going to eat a elk ribeye tonight with a salad.

I bought fresh Ahi tuna yesterday at the Costco near my house for $16 per pound. And tuna costs more than salmon.
