Lil Nigel and CJ were on several recruiting trips together and ran track (although never raced each other somehow). Really nice kid and great parents who were fun to hang with. He is a kid North Shore needs to get more attention.
As a reader, I will paraphrase John Irving, "I wonder if people who complain about a work of fiction not being 'realistic' understand that what they really don't like is, plot." I get the complaint, but if you watch mysteries (especially serial mysteries that follow individuals solving murders) this is the number one thing that you need to let go of to enjoy. None of us would want to vacation in St. Marie in the Caribbean because over 100 people have been murdered there. But Death in Paradise has a strong audience.
There is a trademark/patent attorney on here but I am struggling to remember his handle. He mentioned it a few weeks ago. I will see if I can find it in one of the Surly college kids threads or travel thread. Sorry for my crappy memory.
I would add that cable allows you to watch close to real-time. I have found that streaming sucks for that. I am significantly ahead on the game than most friends and family that I am texting with that stream.
This thread is a good reminder for me as to why I pay for the convenience of U-Verse. I can watch everything as it is happening and I can switch immediately to other games. Streaming also frustrates me for that reason. My remote is smoking by the end of Saturday.
Moved in Baby Girl to SRD last weekend. Moved Soph Lil’ Nigel into his new place (not in Texas) and that took most of the week, then came back to Austin Saturday for sorority “Bid Day.” We are spent. Glad rush is over. It was stressful for her (and most of the girls I am sure). I told her now she can concentrate on school and she looked at me like I was crazy.
Lil’ Nigel’s take is that Lyles is simply a weird anime kid who just happens to be fast. He is socially awkward and does cringy things a lot. It looked to me that Kenny B shoved him because Lyles cut right in front of him after the tape and they could have collided. I have no issues with that.
I could talk about this subject for a long time. But I will start only by pointing out that showing interest in a school is very important. It narrows your competition to an extent. We found that was definitely a factor in both our kid’s experience, one recruited athlete and one regular student. Follow the school on social media, go on an official tour (and let them know if you were there unofficially in addition), attend the online recruiting webinars for prospective students, etc. All of this helped (or hurt if we didn’t do it) in our experience.
Got this for my son last year when he graduated HS. He loves it. Right about your price point. Hamilton has a lot of great choices for your price range.
I was at a track get together with several parents of current college athletes. To a person, all of them mentioned coaches telling them the recruiting priorities in order are: International, portal, HS athletes in top 10-15 nationally.
The trimming of rosters is mandatory with the new roster limits. Recruiting for HS track will look a lot like baseball, with lower level schools being the “minors.” Many also think you will see an increase in injuries with smaller rosters and asking more of certain athletes to double or triple up in events.
There is a lot of movement right now with the new roster limits; lots of cuts, transfers, etc. It's a tough, transitional summer for a lot of college track athletes.
He was drafted because they had a deal. He is older, can take the bonus, and not have to go to school. Hopefully, it works out for him. Sounds like the staff was prepared.
Not just a coincidence that most of the HS are US National Team campers/players. It’s a thing, difficult to get into and more difficult to be on the outside of.
Already a good example of the MLB Draft being unlike the others. It’s not best players coming off in order. Nats just saved ~$2MM because they can under slot this kid. The HS picks will have all cut a deal before the pick.
We are 2-3 degrees of separation from 5 of the Camp Mystic kids and counselors. Our friend, whose granddaughter is still unaccounted, for said that one of the things they have been prepped for is that many will be receiving letters from their daughters that were mailed out July 3. Ugh.
Thanks for the info. This is very helpful. Just because we don’t have experience at either, we are thinking of Crested Butte for half and Beaver Creek for half. Still deciding on that or Crated Butte the entire week.
Would love to hear thoughts and suggestions.
Going up end of July early August for a week. Thinking Crested Butte, Beaver Creek, RMNP (Estes Park/Grand Lake) or a combination of two of these. Family of 4, son 19, about to go back for fall camp (football) and daughter, 18, about to go to UT.
We will do light/moderate hiking, son and I will fish. Otherwise, we want a great place to hang when not doing those things. Read through the thread and it has been helpful and much appreciated.
In this vain, I will say that Lil' Nigel played quite a bit against several players on the roster this past season. Two were good at 15-16 but didn't really develop past that, and two were players where we just never saw it. All of them were head scratchers to us and all 4 will not be on the roster next season. I have said on here plenty of times that Schloss is a relentless recruiter and a good judge of talent historically. The differences we saw between Schloss and Pierce were stark.
