While I agree that is part of it, Flo is not unique in training pros. Coach Holloway and his staff at Florida (probably the best in the country the past several years) train a bunch of professionals and have several Olympic medals to show for it. Quincey Watts at USC and several other coaches around the country train as well. At least as of a couple of years ago, what was a bit different for Flo was that he did not separate training the pros with his UT athletes. On one hand you can say that is good for the college athletes to train above them, but you can also point to it taking away from the college athlete coaching because the coach’s time is taken up with pros as well. Most coaches train their professionals in separate sessions (pros in the morning and college athletes in the afternoon). No coach is everyone’s cup of tea and Flo runs things very much like a business, not a lot of sunshine. They rank athletes every week and it can be a very stressful environment. It would be more comfortable if it looked like what Florida has put together (even without as many National Championships). But it does work, and although Flo has not been as consistent as Florida, Arky, A&M, LSU, USC, and now UGA, he is certainly closer on the women’s side.

Don’t disagree with any of this. At the end of the day, LSU had more talent to draw from and it showed. Texas will look similar going forward under Schloss. In the this playoff format, you can lean on 4 pitchers: Ace starter, solid second starter, clean up guy (see: Jessen Merle) and a closer. The three teams left standing this season all had that. LSU’s were better. I remember having discussions late in the 2005 season that Texas couldn’t hit. LSU fans/parents had those same discussions in May. Amazing how much heat great pitching takes off the offense. I will add that relative to the talent that Schloss will most likely bring in, fans will see that Texas got more out of this squad than even Schloss thought (and he was honest about that back in May).

It’s no secret that Arrambide will not be their catcher. He has trouble with the basics. They can use his bat and play him elsewhere.

Coach Johnson has been known to drive the parents of the LSU players a bit crazy at times. He likes to tinker during the season. After Eyanson left the game at Texas, if Johnson puts in Evans or Cowan to shut things down, they very well could have won the game and series. Instead he used what seemed like 15 arms from his pen, and lost. By playoffs, he knew what he had and how he wanted to use them. Schloss will greatly increase the talent at Texas starting this coming season.

This is basically what LSU worked out over the course of the year. Evans was initially used sparingly at first and Johnson had some trouble figuring out how best to use him. He started a couple of Sundays after Shores struggled but when the playoffs came around, he was the guy to shut things down. He is being talked about as their Friday starter next season. Texas will look similar in its staff.

LSU had 2 freshman All Americans. Texas would do well to match that next season. Top recruiting class helps.

I always appreciate the understanding and perspective that athletes like your dad have. They have seen it from the inside, seen for what it truly is, and have healthy perspective. Fanboys, not so much.

Yep. Coach Sion officially announced his resignation and retirement from collegiate coaching the week before nationals.

2025 College World Series
LSU has been an automatic W with Anderson on the mound. If Coastal is going to win the series, most likely it will have to be in three (like Texas). The fact that they are this close is something. It turned in the 3-4 innings when Anderson was able to shave two innings worth of pitches off his total. He was on pace to 120 pitches through 6. Now he is coming out for the 8th.

The bunt was fine. The runner jumping to stand still instead of breaking to third killed it. Bad baserunning saved a batter’s worth of pitches for Anderson.

Kind of a “devil you know” deal. Gets to stay big time D1 after missing a year due to injury. Good gig.

2025 College World Series
This year is the first of 4-5 that we (myself as coach and Lil’ Nigel) have a lot of teammates, friends, and players we competed against since age 9 playing D1, several of whom we have been watching in the playoffs the past two weeks (two play for UT). Our closest friends and Lil’ Nigel’s teammate plays for LSU. It hits different when you have kids that age, especially if you are close to them. You have a greater respect for “them man in the arena.” I know first hand watching Lil’ Nigel on national TV this past fall make a mistake for all the world to see. All that being said, I don’t like Arkansas and had a horrible experience there watching UT football back in the day. But my first thought last night was “Oh, no. I feel bad for those two players.” The LSU dad’s first text to me last night was, “Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes not. Man, I feel bad for those players from Arkansas.” Dad vibes.

His dropping will depend on his “number” to sign. If he is dropping it could be that there is word that he will be too expensive. NIL is making this new world a three part negotiation instead of two.

LSU hard to beat in this playoff format. They have a next level ace, a second strong starter, and three really good arms out of the pen.

Gamble for sure, but thinking is probably not keeping your ace in for high likelihood of dead innings (behind against another ace). Now, he can come back sooner if necessary. Don’t know if I agree with it.

- Texas Track and Field
To be fair, Texas men and women were runners up in ‘22, with the women winning in ‘23. Again, to me it’s the feeling of being just outside the top tier in consistency that is troubling. Regarding facilities, if you are ever able, you need to go to Hayward Field at Oregon. It is the best facility for any sport in college athletics. It is truly fantastic. I have been to A&M’s new facility and have a split view on it. it is really nice, but it’s like they could only finish half because of funding (see: Jimbo). It’s not what it could be, but still really nice. Scattershooting here, if I am Texas, I look really big picture and see about a multi-use facility at the current location that doubles as a premier track facility and hosting HS football games in the fall (like The Star up in Frisco, but mainly for track). 3/4 covered or something to handle the heat for track and potential rain for spectators. Huge financial undertaking, but now is the time when the money is flowing. - Texas Track and Field
