Rock and Roll HOF
Though not a “hit” I always loved Penny for Your Thoughts. And I’m convinced it was the progenitor of the Crowes’ Sunday Night Buttermilk Waltz which is just a dadgum jam if I’ve ever heard one.

Billy Joel live at MSG on CBS tonight
I saw him at MSG in February and it was a blast (and definitely a dress rehearsal for this performance). But this CBS show is ten times more dynamic - lights, crowd, guests. I love Billy - going to his shows at MSG are less like going to see a band I can’t wait to see and more like seeing a killer Broadway show. Glad I got to see one of his last “residency” shows.

That’s egregious, outrageous, preposterous.

I’m in Westport CT and felt it. At first sounded like it was a strong breeze but I noticed the trees totally calm….. then a little shaking which I heard more than felt (pictures, windows rattling). My wife was in her office and didn’t notice it. Dogs freaked the fuck out.- Steely Dan
I'm a lifelong Steely Dan fan and now enjoying getting my 6 yo son into it. He can't get enough (unless it's to play some Tom Petty). I agree with many that everything up to and including Aja ruled then they started to diminish; but I actually like Gaucho a lot. The only SD songs I don't like are Haitian Divorce and East St. Louis Toodle-Oo. I also, frankly, don't love Do It Again. I finally got to see them a couple years ago and, man, I regret not seeing them when Becker was alive. Still put on a fantastic show. And while he's not quite Steve Gadd, Keith Carlock live is an absolute killer drummer.- The GQP: Trumpist Death Cult
And you wanna be my latex salesman?- do you ever yearn?

Dude…- Most annoying instrument?
As with many things in this thread, in the right hands is a critical consideration. The Rhodes keys can be iconic. I think you’re attributing the blame to the instrument when it should be to the musician.- Running Alt-Right Thread of Mockery and Hypocrisy
Get outta town. He was trying to, libtard!- Greatest drummer of all time?
Kunkel raises a whole other class of studio drummer. Just solid and full proof. Aronoff, Weckl…. Legends of a different kind. Good call. And a final thought…. Buddy Rich changed the whole game WAY pre-rock and roll and was a masterful player of rudiments, but he topped out a by-gone era versus ushering in a new one. He was the ultimate show-off without a lot to show for it in his time…. But he showed a lotta kids at the time that their time was coming. Enter Bonham, Moon, Bissonette, Weckl, etc.- Greatest drummer of all time?
Watts was another guy whose heart was in jazz. You hear it even more in later albums. Honky Tonk Women was a great example of tempo adjusting to feel. Mushy funk to R&B with a country/soul feel and back again. And while I’m at the ol’ typewriter, a note on Phil Collins. Although it’s no longer considered witty or a provocation to talk about how great a drummer he was - and I say was because he was literally crippled because of his drumming setup - I advocate that he was one of the more significantly impactful artists of modern pop and rock music. Unbelievable as a singer, genre bending as a writer (or co-writer), and a drummer that helped smooth the transition between prog rock to prog pop to MTV pop. I’d put him up there with Prince in terms of influence on overall importance during their active decades.- A story about a pathetic man's downfall [34 Felony Convictions]
When it hits you that chicken might not have made it all the way to 165 degrees…- Most annoying instrument?
I was gonna say alto sax. Why do we need this? And, I don’t hate it in every song and some guys are subtle masters of it, but I generally don’t like the harmonica - at least not as a “lead” in most songs.- Most annoying instrument?
