Texas Men's Tennis '25 - '26
Hi again UT Tennis Fan, We had a solid 4-0 win over UNC Wilmington today at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center in the 1st round of the ITA Kick Off. We will be back at it tomorrow against South Florida. Due to the forecast of bad weather tomorrow evening, our match time has been moved up to "not before 11:30 am," 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 9 am consolation match. The match was previously scheduled for 12:30 pm, so I wanted you to have the latest update. On another note, we couldn't be more proud of Eliot Spizzirri for pushing world #2 Jannik Sinner to the limit. It sure was unfortunate that the heat rule provided a break for Sinner as the roof was closed, but Eliot certainly represented himself and Longhorn Nation well. Have a great night, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan, We had a tough 4-2 loss to #1 ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday night (match recap), but there were some encouraging signs. First of all, we had a great crowd of close to 400 people, so thanks to everyone who was there to support us! Even though not yet match fit, Kalin Ivanovski took the court for his first singles match, we won the doubles point, and Sebastian Gorzny had a big win at #1 singles. Meanwhile, we expect Lucas Brown to return to singles action this weekend, and Oliver Ojakaar is getting closer by the day. Disappointing not to be able to come away with the win, but onwards and upwards! Bad weather has moved the entire schedule for the ITA Kick Off weekend indoors to the Weller Indoor Tennis Center. See the tournament homepage for all the information you will need, including links to live scoring, and hopefully live streaming. And for a full preview of today's 11 am match vs North Carolina-Wilmington at the Weller Tennis Center, please click here. Should we advance today, our qualifying match (for the National Team Indoors) will be scheduled for 12:30 pm tomorrow against the winner of South Florida and Washington. Should we come up short today, our consolation match would be at 9:30 am. If you are free, come on over to Weller this morning, and again tomorrow (hopefully at 12:30 pm) to support us in our quest to return to the National Indoors this year. Finally, congratulations to Eliot Spizzirri for advancing to the 3rd round of the Australian Open!! His reward is a match up with Jannik Sinner in the 2nd match on Rod Laver Arena (the first match is a women's match that starts at 5:30 pm central time)! Meanwhile in Portugal, Cleeve Harper advanced to the doubles final of a big Challenger, and George Goldhoff advanced to the final of a Challenger in Vietnam. Good luck to both. World #1 ranked Lloyd Glasspool fell in the 2nd round of the Australian Open. Thanks, as always, for your interest in our program. Have a great day, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque

Put Oliver and Kalin in singles and this might have been a different score in Texas' favor. Unsure if they are taking it easy with Kalin since he did play doubles and Oliver hasn't played this Spring.

It seems that the women will be a mediocre team this year.

Hi UT Tennis Fan, We had a solid win over Incarnate Word on Wednesday (UIW recap), and have now turned our full attention to tomorrow's top 5 matchup with Virginia. The match will be tomorrow (Sunday) at 12:30 pm outside at the Texas Tennis Center. The weather will be very nice, so if you are in town there are no weather excuses for not coming out to see some great tennis! If you show up a little early you will also be able to catch the women's team, who is facing off against Pepperdine at 11 am on the south courts. I have attached the promotional flyer for tomorrow's match vs UVA. Please spread it around on social media, to your friends, and to any groups of tennis enthusiasts that you have access to. For those of you who are out of town and unable to be there for us in person, you can follow along via live scoring and video by clicking on the links provided in this match preview. Things don't get easier next week, as we will take on #1 ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5:30 pm in a #1 vs #2 battle at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center at Steiner Ranch. Then it is back outside at the TTC on Friday and Saturday for the ITA Kick Off (qualifier for the National Team Indoors). Our first match will be on Friday at 12:00 pm vs UNC Wilmington. We will play at 12:00 pm again the next day (Saturday) against either South Florida or Washington. Thanks for your support, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque

Virginia defeated #3 TCU indoors in Ft Worth, 4-1, today. Texas needs to be ready for this matchup.

Texas' #1 player today is probably a line #3 or #4 when against tougher competition. IMO anyways. Jodar has already announced he's turning pro so he's not coming back to Virginia. This Texas team will be fine throughout the season and is still a contender to win it all.

Hi UT Tennis Fan, We had a successful season opening match against ACU at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday (full recap). Although we were missing several likely starters from our lineup, we played very well top to bottom, and were able to get 3 freshmen their first dual match experience. This will be a big week for us. We play Incarnate Word at 3 pm on Wednesday outside at the Texas Tennis Center, and then Virginia at 12:30 pm on Sunday (also outside at the Texas Tennis Center). That will be a top 5 match up, as we are currently ranked #2, and Virginia #5. If you are in town, we need you (and all your friends) out in full force to set the tone for the kind of home support we will need this year. Rally the troops and show up early at the TTC on Sunday! If you do get there early, you will be able to watch our women's team take on Pepperdine on the south courts. The women are scheduled to start at 10 am, and we will kick things off at 12:30 pm. Hope to see you Wednesday, and especially on Sunday! In news of Longhorns on tour, action is heating up down under. Eliot Spizzirri (currently ATP #83 in the live rankings) is currently in the 2nd round of the main draw in the ATP $250k in Auckland. He won 3 matches in straight sets over ATP top 100 players (2 in qualifying and 1 in the main draw). Eliot will be in the main draw of the Australian Open next. Cleeve Harper represented Canada in the United Cup, and current #1 in the world in doubles Lloyd Glasspool reached the final last week in Brisbane, and is currently in the 2nd round in Adelaide. Good luck 'horns! Have a great week, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque

Herea finished the Fall ranked #2. Granted, a lot of the players opted to play pro tournaments in the Fall or just weren't enrolled til the Spring. Nonetheless, it's still a great recruit!

Regarding that score in the back, I wonder if those last 2 sets are accurate and if so, was Carmen hurt? If accurate and Carmen wasn't hurt, that's impressive!

Probably means the incoming Freshman for the Spring are that good. Kalin looks legit. Only time will tell. 🤞🏼

Our 2nd match will be on Wednesday, January 14 vs Incarnate Word. Then we have two massive home matches - Virginia at 12:30 pm on January 18, and defending national champion Wake Forest at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 21.
