The conferences need to send their best teams based on however many slots they get. By this logic OU is 6th and Vandy is 7th. Texas would be in if the SEC gets 5.
Regarding the Coaches Poll: they were willing to put us ahead of two 2-loss teams. So they clearly have some discretion.
The dumbest part of all is having OU at #8. They are a bad team.
Correct. We need to tell OSU, sorry but we want to see you in the playoffs. One of us may miss that chance if we do this. Or we can just accept that game as the whole season.
The coaches poll indicates that they don't wish to play us in the playoffs. This illustrates the perverse incentives and bad faith arguments by fans and coaches alike. The playoff committee would love to put us in for TV/Ad dollars but fears controversy more.
This ultimately boils down to the evolving preference for playoff games over regular-season games. The larger the playoff, the less important the regular season becomes. Personally, I would like a little balance there and to avoid these "bubble" issues for teams that would be worth having in the playoffs. Eventually the quality of the playoff games goes down too if it gets too large.
There are so many contradictory rationales at work by the playoff committee. I think that since the SEC will guarantee us a strong SOS each year, we just make it simple for those dumbasses and don't confuse them with a tough OOC game to consider. We don't need the win to boost our schedule.
Are we sure that Oklahomaās lousy game against LSU ensures them a birth? Again, these are the SEC standings. Why would we jump Alabama before OU or Vandy who we beat H2H?
This is the only remaining path to a playoff birth. If Alabama gets embarrassed, the chatter will be that we also got embarrassed by Georgia. It may boil down to who the SEC wants in more.
Bottom line is this: our H2H wins over 3 teams who will likely make the playoffs is trumped by our one OOC loss. The question is this: do you want that OOC game to be in the regular season or in the playoffs going forward? If so, you schedule practice teams OOC and let your conference standing determine your playoff birth and seeding.
I am sorry, if only, okay with Sark and his staff focusing on the portal instead the wet dream of us making it to the semis again. Unpopular opinion: night is over. Drink your fine bourbons my kings.
Remind me again how I got to the point of cheering for fake UT and their generic orange and for fucking Auburn to get me off? Donāt make me deal with this playoff committee Politik-Bureau. I want to hang with the aristocrats.
Yes, because unlike everyone else, their team is composed solely from the campus Army ROTC rather than recruiting athletes from highschools. Puts them at a huge disadvantage.
Can anyone tell me the appropriate place to sell to actual Texas Fans? I have two excellent tickets, approximately 43 yard line on the visitor's side (Section 29, Row 39), and I can no longer attend due to family reasons.
