oh most definitely. that’s why i recently posted that kelvin sampson is just a better rick barnes, yet without any of the heat over his own tourney struggles. when so much of your offense is predicated on rebounding your own misses it’s not always gonna be pretty, but it can still be efficient and effective. when you rebound ~40% of your own misses your points per possession will still look good most of the time. my main point was just that our fans were always so vocal about Barnes being basically an idiot of an offensive coach, when in reality he actually probably got the most out of the the majority of his offenses given the personnel he was working with. and when he actually had a team that was talented offensively? man. the TJ and DJ teams were so fun to watch. the 2010 team with doj, j’covan, avery bradley, damion james, jordan hamilton, dexter pittman, et al was the most fun i’ve ever had watching basketball (for half a season). same with the 2011 team that got boned in the tourney. legitimately talented and fun to watch. and i would just hope that by now, after having seen what shaka and RT (and beard) brought to the table offensively, that some of our fans would now realize that they were wrong, and too hard on a coach whose offenses were pretty damned decent for such a defense-and-rebounding type HC who built his rosters as such.

houston does not get to the FT line and they take lower percentage two pointers than all but one team in d-1. i won’t be surprised if sampson has another early exit as a 2 seed.
