  1. there are people who come here every day to earnestly talk hoops, and then there are people who come here once in a blue moon with the sole purpose of talking shit and starting shit. it would be great if the latter category of poster would just do everyone else a favor and self ban. something that’s been great about surly that was different from TOS- there’s no teenagers or undergrads here. we’re all adults, most of us in our 40’s and 50’s, and we’ve been coming here to talk basketball together for more than a decade- more than two decades for some of us. the fact that people like motown and htown solely exist here to start fights and talk shit, as grown men in their 40’s or 50’s is truly pathetic. you would think being banned literally five times for this behavior would be enough, but sadly, here we are. if you aren’t here to have an earnest conversation about UT hoops, and are only here to talk shit, you are a pathetic, sad, lonely, hurt person. please stop making it everyone else’s problem, and find something better to do with your time than following me around talking shit. absolutely nobody here appreciates it. thank you.
  2. noting like those old. armed vs sampson days. TJ, Boddicker, Royal, and James Thomas vs Hollis Price, Najera, and Kevin Bookout? absolute slug fests with some great basketball intertwined. OU senior day in 2003 will always be one of my favorite highlights from Rick’s time here.

  5. this is hilarious, watching the world’s leader in load management going hard af in the all star game.
  6. kawhi is on a 15-2 run by himself.
  7. mvp chants lol.
  8. kawhi. 😱
  9. a)none of them were 50+ when they made their name coaching, b)i specified that i was referring to coaches between the ages of ~35-50, and c)i literally put “youth movement” in quotes. not sure what you’re disagreeing with here.
  10. x/posting from the series thread:
  11. it has been truly enjoyable to watch a team visibly and objectively improve as the season progresses.
  12. por ejemplo:
  13. im trying to shame everyone else into checking in soon so mom dukes can knock out the draft order. i’m so anxious lol.
  14. for me i just feel safer with a more “traditional” or obviously great offense than i do with one that can’t rely on solid shooting. although i will say that it probably doesn’t matter this year as we all know that this isn’t a top 5-10 team that’s vying for the title, but more of a team where a S16 appearance would be just awesome. as barnes and sampson have most notably shown, using offensive rebounds > great shooting can be a really good way to win 20, 25, even 30 games, but it’s a really tough way to win six in a row in the tourney. so it’s really more of a tourney handicap than anything. it can knock you down a round or two where great shooting can do the opposite.
  15. exactly. the formula is points per 100 possessions, weighted for sos. kelvin sampson usually has a very highly rated offense due to his teams’ ability to turn offensive boards into points. we don’t get those boards quite as often as houston does, but we get to the line a ton and we’ve been shooting it really well there, so our points per 100 possessions is still quite high despite us not being a great shooting team. edited to add: which is part of what makes us resemble a tom penders team: if we do shoot the ball well on a given night we can beat a lot of teams. i’ve seen a few metrics that have placed us in the “dangerous tourney team” category because of this. we can defintely win a game or two in march vs a “better” team if we’re hitting shots.
  16. that’s probably true. i have been known to dabble in hyperbole a bit lol. also easier for me to say right now when im a fan of sark and where our football program currently is.
  17. i would say that this offense is about on par with the one that beard left behind for terry. iirc that offense was ~no.7-8 in kenpom when beard got canned. edit: ha. i just went and looked up the game vs gonzaga, and as you can see our Ortg for tha game was 1.26, which is essentially identical to our current 126.1 Ortg for this team.
