GO ARMY, beat navy!!!
GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY! Now having said that. I've been chipping in on this and it's predecessor threads for years as I'm 6th Gen Army (dad is one of the few folks you'll meet that was shot with a Ma Deuce and lived, Grandad landed on Normandy with the 4th ID, and on and on....) so I can genuinely say with pride this year, I'll be more than happy when I hear my boy cheer for the enemy this year. This was from his Graduation on Halloween.

The cotton bowl is a shit hole
I politely disagree, I always want our dogs running through the blO-U side first then coming home to our endzone. Those fuckwad dirt burglars only get to run out then immediately head to their sideline - it's half-assed and perfectly suits those half-assed sumbitches.

2024 Transfer Thread - The Pedantic Circlejerk
I've seen folks in other lines of work do the same, especially in similar situations - imagine you're coming into a great position and the person you're following is considered not just great, but perhaps the greatest ever. A technique to establish yourself as the org alpha is to tear things down not because they're completely broken, but because it's more imperative to let everyone know that you ARE the alpha and you're going to have things YOUR way. If you get everyone cowed and jumping to your every word then it might work... ...then again it frequently doesn't (look at our AD disaster a few years ago).

Rogue Shop Company Overview
Good question - my wife has a difficult time enjoying the recreational effects of THC (she doesn't drink much either) as it makes her very uneasy. With the lower euphoria/psychedelic effects of Delta 8 my bet is that it's low enough that she would have an easier time enjoying it. Does that answer your question?

Classic Car thread
If y'all are ever in my home town of Mineral Wells I recommend making the effort to swing by the local Blue Oval Car Barn, you could even grab a bite to eat at Coffee and Cocktails right across the lane. Finley loves pre-castration 1971 Mustangs but he has a ton of other desirable examples (and is one of the nicest & affable car guys you'll meet). The below is one of the two 1970 Boss Mustangs you can see in the pic above, the other is a 302.

Rogue Shop Company Overview
Having tried 3x items I would like to report my experiences: 1st things first - with all three variants I STRONGLY recommend following the sellers guidance for 1st time users to cut each gummy into 4 equal pieces and take each quarter at 2 hour intervals to figure out what works best for you. Following their instruction I found my best results were 1/4 gummy every 1.5 hours (which is consistent with my experience with other 'products') Key personal note: I'm a disabled vet and pain management is very important to me - cannabinoids are my preferred mitigation agent as prescription opioids make me extremely nauseous and miserable. I'm very interested in natural remedies that don't require me popping Tylenol several times a day just to get by on a normal day or opioids on a bad one. (NOTE: with all of these gummies, users are clearly informed you WILL fail a drug test if required) Delta 9 THC Gummy: Recreation Effects (Best): Very Strong - about 80-90% of the euphoria/pleasure I'm used to with THC (how in the world is this shit not just legal, but I got it shipped to my house?!??!) Medicinal Effects (Good): it's okay, I wasn't numbed and during a period of pain I found myself needing to take Tylenol to be able to fully move without noticeable pain Commentary: If I want a pure 'high' this will be my go-to, the fact that it gives me a very pleasant experience and is 100% legal is a major relief HHC Gummy: Recreation Effects (Better): Strong - about 60% of the euphoria/pleasure I'm used to with THC Medicinal Effects (Better): Strong - this numbed my pain enough that I was able to contribute around the house and enjoy myself without pain distractions Commentary: What a wonderful middle ground of recreation & medicinal - I will be using these a lot Delta 8 Gummy (275mg): Recreation Effects (Good): very mild euphoria/pleasure - using this I am able to still do all things around the house without being 'stoned' Medicinal Effects (Best): VERY pleased with this - pain is numbed to the point where I don't lose track of it but I'm able to fully function, I don't use this term much but "Game Changing" applies here, I feel confident that I'll never have to use a prescription opioid ever again Commentary: Wonderful, wonderful, simply wonderful. I feel like I've found the pain management system I should have been on ever since I left the military. The recreation effects are there but so minimal I can fully function around the house and be able to fully hold a conversation with my wife and family. On a side note - I feel VERY confident my wife (who has not enjoyed the euphoric effects of strong THC) would find this experience pleasant Overall Summary: I not only will buy more, but I endorse their products as they do a very good job of providing information when you're shopping; when you've purchased and they're shipping; and the overall product quality. The fact that it's legal and I can have it shipped directly to my door means I don't have to travel to another state for the experience OR being put in a position of considering breaking Texas laws. I'll end up using the HHC most commonly, followed by the D8 on very bad pain days and D9 when I have a day to fully check-out. I hope my fellow Shag/Surlysters find this information helpful.

Rogue Shop Company Overview
Package arrived today from Wisconsin - on time, packed well and, since my order was over $100, shipping was free. The package kindly included a data sheet for each item ordered as well as a copy of Rogue's license to sell the items in Texas. Not sure what I'll try first over the weekend but will report back (I ordered Delta 8, Delta 9 & HHC/CBN). I've never had anything other than THC edibles so that'll be my reference point (I usually take 10-30mg of THC products, in states that allow it, of course).

Could you beat this 70 year olds 100m time?
Yes I could. (I'd tackle him in the starting blocks, sit on him, asphyxiate his skinny ass, then waddle my way down the track)

Joe Abercrombie -- First Law books
I actually agree with you that he's not a proponent for one side or the other - his style seems more of the observational narrative type instead of championing a cause. Hayes is similar where Lawrence seems to dabble into moral tragedy.

Joe Abercrombie -- First Law books
Since we're separating this out of the F/SF thread to discuss story morals (morality?) - I've really enjoyed the recent trend (last 10-15 years) for authors in the genre to 'up their game' to propose social questions. Abercrombie, along with Mark Lawrence and (more recently) Rob J. Hayes are all British writers that have been described as 'gritty' but I've been convinced they're making social commentary in the vein of the powerful elite vs. the enlightened heroes. We could spend hours and countless thousands of pixels going back and forth on the merits of this style (especially if we compare it to other current works, such as the Corey's Expanse theme of "there are no easy shortcuts in life") but I hope it continues. Great writing should do two things in my opinion (opinion alert! opinion alert!): Be entertaining (well written, interesting story, character development, etc.) Stimulate personal growth and development If Abercrombie's writing stirs something in you (or anyone else) to say "I believe in 'XYZ' and I'm going to do something about it" then he succeeded - but that brings up another question: Should a writer use dark/depressing/gritty themes to motivate/influence readers?

Chile
Chileans love their native wines and Pisco Sour's. Where will you be going? The north is dominated by deserts, the middle is gloriously temperate this time of year (fall is starting) and the south will be stormy but remind you of the US Pacific NW. Pisco Sour for reference:

Finished Leviathan Falls (Expanse book 9) the other day. Definitely a wrap up that's going to take a few more days to process - sometimes I'm thumbs up, sometimes I'm only slightly thumbs up (the epilogue, however, I'm full thumbs up with no hesitation). I find that while I understand both the plot/moral/message and the culmination of said plot/moral/message I sometimes feel the final book wasn't as suspenseful/captivating as the earlier installments. It's almost as though you could anticipate what was going to happen not because of simple things like foreshadowing but because it could only work out that way (logic?). I'm wondering if any of y'all have finished it and what your thoughts on it are. Could use some bookfag/club thoughts from the group - some different perspectives over things I might be missing I guess.- GIF to describe Texas Football this year

The University of Texas at Austin Football summary for the last 10 seasons: 77 Wins 54 Losses 57.5% Win percentage Zero Conference Championships (only one CCG Appearance) I'd like to thank the custodians of a once-proud program that have made our blue-blood football team irrelevant.
