Austin should have done it earlier. Also, fridge/freezer died overnight. Seems like the worst possible time for this.

"All models all wrong, some are useful." After reading through the paper, his overall conclusions that the US and UK need to go into a suppression instead of mitigation is correct and that's generally what we are seeing with the shutdown of bars, restaurants, etc coming down now. However, his model is definitely wonky and doesn't seem to be calibrated against China or South Korea's performance. There's a lot of smart conclusions in there in regards to policy, but the model seems off with those second peaks. I never thought I'd defend Reviewer #2, but a lot of this research that is being published to twitter instead of being checked is the reason for that reviewer being a complete jackass.

Houston Texans Traded Deandre Hopkins to Arizona Cardinals for David Johnson
I was thinking there had to be a reason why Hopkins was traded in case he was old or a bad contract, but seems like he's absolutely in his prime and his contract is extremely manageable. Not a Texans fan, but the owner should have fired BoB on the spot when he brought him that trade.

Is there a defined time for another press briefing today?

With Vegas and NYC shutting down, it sounds like the guidelines released tomorrow is going to be similar to NYC's ban.

Thankfully they also don't get nearly the visitors that way as well. Hope she ends up okay though, I'm sure Alamosa and surrounding areas aren't as high on the food distribution/resources as other places.

Sorry that is along the front range are screwing up for y’all in the high country. I think it’s going to get awful up there as y’all just don’t have the capacity.

It seems like it really depends on how wide the clusters are and how dense they become. Examples of that is the #31 case in South Korea who ended up fucking over a significant amount of people by breaking quarantine. Lodi seems like it's a bit further removed from the Milan area and density as it's not quite as developed towards there, whereas it seems like there's a relatively consistent population center towards Bergamo. They are within the greater metro, but I still would think that it affects it significantly. One of the authors of the study did say they were going to address it (and it's crazy that all those cases in Bergimo came from only 2 clusters!). I didn't mean to harp on you, but it is one of those things that a reviewer would really make the authors defend.

I don't want to discourage people from social distancing and these shutdowns are super important and should happen now, but Bergamo is 2.7x the size of Lodi and with a population density that is 3x that of Lodi. It's not all that surprising that they are being hit harder than Lodi, regardless of the implementation of the shutdown.

Rumor going around that Colorado is going to shut down all non-essential businesses including all restaurants and bars.

At this point, and after the shitshow of people being morons on St. Paddy's day, it's absolutely coming.

Seriously, NYC's excuse is bullshit. Other districts are coming up with contingency plans to deliver meals or have it where people can pick up boxed lunches.

Governor Polis closed all ski resorts in Colorado, essentially ending the season. That explains why Vail / Steamboat & Winter Park all closed. It definitely sucks, but it's clearly the right thing to do. People can't be trusted to not be morons and go and be disease vectors in areas without the proper health care.

Sucks for him as Vail (and presumably others) are set to close here. Coming was especially selfish since the high country really is underprepared in terms of health care, and getting to either the Western Slope or Denver can be a mess.

I think I may have Covid-19 thread - 2 confirmed cases
Wife and I were exposed last week from one of the first confirmed cases here in Denver and hung out with that person pretty closely while grilling last weekend. After we found out, we immediately self-quarantined. Neither of us have had a fever, but both have had weird symptoms (have a congestion in my throat that hasn't decreased despite taking mucinex, allergy medicines, dayquil/nyquil) for the past week, and my wife has had an on and off headache. Sucks not knowing whether or not we have it, but seems dumb to potentially expose health workers to it if we feel relatively fine.

Belittling someone's religion, what a great way to try to change someones mind! Army - I'd imagine that Diocese down in Texas will do what Colorado did by cancelling all masses. Again, EWTN and the Vatican provide a livestream/pre-recorded stream to watch.

Archdiocese of Denver cancelled all masses and public gatherings.

It has been a fiasco from the federal government, but I disagree with him on this: Has any major country been able to do anything to contain the virus without going to those measures? It seems like the virus' ability to hide for such a long time makes it a nightmare to contain once it gets to your country, and the only remedy is to truly practice social distancing and isolate people as much as possible. Even South Korea which is held as the gold standard, cancelled schools through March and generally cancelled large gatherings a la what we are currently seeing.

Just do EWTN. The homilies are... something to say the least, but it's a good compromise imo. I think they even do a free stream online.

Arsenal's coach has COVID-19, and somehow, the Premier League hasn't cancelled the season.

It makes sense. Looks like EWTN is about to get a huge influx of viewers!

This whole pandemic is showing how interlinked the global economy really is. Even if we slow down work with China, if it transmits to the Middle East or Europe, we are going to eventually get it. Still, I do kind of agree, if China doesn’t actually shut down these wet markets that sell wild animals in the middle of major metropolitan areas, the world needs to re-evaluate where it’s factories really are.
