Anyone remember that the mp3 pirating software Napster had a direct messaging functionality? I was just a teenager downloading some shit on it and—i forgot exactly what and how it started— I found myself chatting with a young woman in Northern Ireland. It was a genuinely innocuous and warm conversation and at some point she started telling me about all the bombings and political violence around where she lived. Coming from public schools and having barely passed puberty, I had no fucking idea there was an actual ongoing WAR in “Ireland” of all places. (now I know they had just completed the Good Friday Agreement but still had occasional clashes years after). I thought “Ireland” was all sheep and crumpets and tea. I was half convinced she was yanking my leg. The chat ended some point later. Despite the slightly grim turn it was overall a really pleasant conversation. And being my first with a foreigner maybe (?), it stuck in my mind. Once in a while, like when I hear a Zombies song, that chat pops back in my head. I kinda wonder who she was and where is she now, and imagine if we met as adults would she remember, once upon a time early in both of our internet experiences, typing on a keyboard to some young kid in America (i dont think I told her my age??) who was completely incredulous at what was going in her country.
Daemon the Drunkard was remorseful about the Duncan death sentence thing. He couldve been more helpful by assuring Duncan that he will survive the challenge, because his dreams being future prophesy means Duncan necessarily needs to be alive.
someones gonna say like, well the initial design is a big part of the cost thats no longer required for sustained production. or that the remote is subsidized by the advertising on the button and by the money generated by the service and whatever. its still crazy that the actual physical device is so cheap
i bought some rip off fitbits for that price from china. it has display, optical heart rate sensor, usb port, functional software and screen, lithium battery, etc etc. im continually blown away at human ingenuity to be able to manufacture goods for spectacularly little cost.
Its really powerful but has a learning curve. Their support (the dude who made it) is really good. You can probably get AI to tell you how to do stuff. I used it to make iphone shortcuts to instantly change modes and configurations. Dont need to use it anymore.
Send me $50k. I’ll register an LLC in North Carolina, employ him on $10k/m for 3 months, and take care of payroll taxes. Whatever he loses in income tax is cheaper than the difference in rates.
Turns out it’s based on real life. I was somewhat surprised to learn how a personal squabble like that was litigated to such length in the middle ages and enshrined in memory. I kinda assumed you bring your case to the king (petty tyrant) and he’d flip a coin and one of you’d just lose all your shit and end of story. Also, Jodie Comer = babe.
the fact that i cant simply click on an Outlook email thread and apply a blanket Clear Flag on it. i have to expand the email thread and clear it on the individual email. Satya Nadella needs to be deported for this.
