Just finished E1. It’s average at best. The acting is terrible even for Star Wars. It feels like it was written by a high schooler. People loved Trinity so here’s Trinity in a Jedi robe and the fight scene is choreographed from a cut scene from The Matrix. Ugh. Let’s also give away the twist in the first 30 minutes because it sucks. Now to E2. I really hope it gets better otherwise I won’t make it to E3.
If you’re gonna allow that reasoning, you must punish out of state travel for all healthcare. Don’t be a pussy, go full fascism and get it the fuck over with.
The unnecessary cameo kills my theory that Jack represents the mythical Max figure in a story told years later by an unreliable narrator. He had the leather jacket missing one sleeve with a shoulder pad, the shotgun pistol, etc.
Just saw Warpaint at Mohawk. Their drummer is really good. She overwhelmed the rest of the band a bit but I dunno how you contain a drummer on stage. Which one of you was the 50-something hitting on the 19 year olds? They were really impressed with you tales of Sonic Youth at Liberty Lunch. Those kids are friends of my daughter so we had a good laugh when they told us about it.
Just left the theater. It was awesome. Is it as good or groundbreaking like Fury Road? Absolutely not. Is it better than 99% of action films? Yep. Miller wisely doesn’t try to remake Fury Road. This is its own thing and is paced more traditionally and is broken into chapters. It’s probably more violent and definitely more gruesome than Fury Road. How she loses her arm is pretty horrific. Anya Taylor Joy doesn’t show up until an hour into the movie and doesn’t say a word for another 45 minutes. She has maybe 200 words of dialog and 150 of them are in the final scene. She’s great and so is the young Furiosa. This is Hemsworth’s best role so far.
The trailer was oddly off-putting. It looked like it was filmed for TV and the tone of the trailer wasn’t the same as the movie. I don’t know who signed off on that trailer cut but they’re largely responsible for the poor performance.
Mohawk is my favorite venue. Yeah, the set up is weird but it used to be a goddamn Mexican restaurant. It’s amazing what they’ve built from some shitty bones. I don’t know of any venue has had as many killer shows as it has.
