  1. He's going to get another year unless we win less than 6.
  2. The people that do don't know shit then.
  3. RandomIdoit replied to zork's topic in Cloak Room
I just claim 1 even though I have dependents so this will not happen. Sucks for those people though.

I don't this is true for everyone. Define what you mean by "how hard you work".
  5. Please tax me more because I went to school and landed a job in an in-demand field!
  6. What is an acceptable wealth disparity in your opinion?
  7. https://www.forbes.com/sites/leesheppard/2013/05/28/how-does-apple-avoid-taxes/#e45963e20a78 I do realize it's an old article.
  8. If you read what I quoted, it makes it seem like they should have paid taxes either in the US or in Ireland, but they did not pay in either country.
  9. It's the first paragraph here verbatim: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/taxpayers-living-abroad And you are right, you can get the exemption but only if you meet the criteria. If you spent one day in the United States you may not qualify for the bona fide residence status. Or if your company sends you overseas to do consulting for part of the year you will still be taxed on that income. So some people will be exempted while some will not be. As far as Apple goes, it was an example of how companies are using tax shelters. From Forbes: I also read that they are now repatriating money because the tax rate was lowered to 15.5% which is good.
  10. Really? Why does the IRS say this:
  11. It was meant to be rhetorical. I would be glad to get a UBI.
  12. The ones that allowed companies like Apple to hold 90% of their profits overseas, shifting profits to subsidiaries. I don't know how much it would generate but we should make sure everyone is paying their share, especially businesses who have been avoiding taxes for years.
  13. Why don't we start small like getting rid of loopholes and tax shelters?
  14. Sounds good. How much am I getting?
  15. The excuse I've always heard about the CEO pay is that they need to pay them that much and give them their golden parachute so that they can attract the best talent. I call bullshit.
  16. On the other hand, there is a huge demand for it. It's called job security.
  17. My dad used to teach at a school on the south side of San Antonio and they had a cosmetology school. It was great for those who wanted to have a career in cosmetology. They could have hundreds of hours under their belt by the time they graduated.
  18. They should start learning trades in high school like they used to. It exposes them to other options besides college or retail.
  19. Those guys get paid by the sheet. I think they get $30 per sheet. That's not bad.
  20. I would push my kids to learn a trade if they had no desire to go to college. The problem is most parents tell their kids that they just need a degree and they'll be able to land a great job. What they should be teaching them is to study a subject in an in demand field. I would have liked to study history becuase it's very interesting, but I knew that I would have better job opportunities with higher pay if I studied electrical engineering. If I had no desire to go to college, I would have became an electrician. There's plenty of work for electricians.
  21. And if a student is poor and has little or no EFC, they can get financial aid. This year it's $5920 which is more than enough for community college and books.
