As of today, how do you think you will vote in the midterm election 7/18? POLL
So what does this have to do with saying that immigration laws are racist? I already said this policy is awful and that I was against it. A judge ordered them to be returned and the people in charge of that are dragging their feet or saying they lost track of them. I said on another thread that this is being used as a deterrent and children are being returned if their parents agree to voluntary deportation. Not sure what you are trying to convince me of.

I do not want separating families to be enforced. I do want all of if he other laws enforced.

Separating families is a policy I don't agree with and would agree is targeted to Mexican and Central American illegal immigrants. What other immigration laws are racist though?

Politically charged altercations at Whataburger
I know that. I thought you wanted to know how it would be implemented if the amendment was repealed.

Politically charged altercations at Whataburger
It couldn't be retroactive. Issue a United States ID to citizens and people with permanent residence. As long as one of the parents of a child has a valid USID, the child is a citizen.

Tender Age Shelters
*disclaimer: I do not agree with or support this policy. They are using it as a deterrent. Come here and we'll take your kids away. We'll return them if you agree to be deported. If not, we don't know what happened to your kids, sorry.

Never have or will vote straight R or D. It takes forever but I view them on a case by case basis.

Wait a minute, you're telling me that there are racists among southern whites?

Politically charged altercations at Whataburger
In my experience, a lot of academics only know the theoretical side of the subject they teach. My EE professors would take take the calculations as gospel on how something works and then when it was actually put into practice, it didn't work. Their minds were blown that it didn't work. The best professors I had were the ones that had real work experience, not just school.

DACA, immigration reform whatever
My response was to the people claiming that they discharged them because they are targeting immigrants. Maybe they did, but then again maybe they didn't.
-
DACA, immigration reform whatever
Hopefully we'll see the details when the case is heard. If there was a targeted effort to single out only immigrants while ignoring others it will come out.
-
DACA, immigration reform whatever
We cannot prove that they were or were not targeted because of their race/ethnicity. If it could be proven that they were the only ones discharged because of incomplete background checks, then you could make that claim. For the record, I think they should have just placed them on an administrative hold like I was put on when I was in the military. They needed more time to complete my top secret clearance, so I worked around base doing details.

DACA, immigration reform whatever
If you are authorized to be in the United States, then they would be eligible. But I don't know how they would enforce it for people on visas. Like these Russian ladies who come here just to have a baby. I don't think that should be allowed. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/birth-tourism-brings-russian-baby-boom-miami-n836121
-
DACA, immigration reform whatever
So they let white people who have not passed background checks remain in the military? If they do, then I would say that they are targeting these people solely based on race/ethnicity.
-
DACA, immigration reform whatever
To eliminate birth tourism and anchor babies. It's just one less incentive for someone to enter illegally. And yes, I understand that this is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.

DACA, immigration reform whatever
Agree. Impose harsh penalties on any company who hires an illegal immigrant. Penalties are per illegal immigrant employed. Provide asylum seekers with a decision in a reasonable amount of time, not years from now. Make a law that states anyone who is in the US illegally would forfeit their right to be considered for asylum. Eliminate jus soli.

A Nation built on Immigration
I never said that. I said it's going to be a consequence of adding more low wage earners via immigration. Of course I want every child here to receive an education, but don't know what solution for funding it is. What about medical care and food? How are all of these programs going to be funded?
-
A Nation built on Immigration
I've already agreed with this. My opinion is that the majority of new immigrants will be renters and not buying a house. So the total amount of property tax money collected by the school district will remain the same. However, the amount of children that the school district will have to support will increase. I don't know what the solution is because we do not have unlimited money or resources.

A Nation built on Immigration
That simply saying the answer is to just allow more legal immigrants in is the answer to our immigration problem. I'm not opposed to this idea, but where is the money going to come from? What are the consequences for coming in illegally if we are allowing more people in legally? Do we abolish birthright citizenship? I don't know what the answer is, but I haven't heard any ideas on how to handle it.

A Nation built on Immigration
I understand that. What I don't understand is how it adds to the amount of taxes which are paid to the school district. Let's say I own an apartment complex and I have to pay $50,000 a year in property taxes. I can charge people $5,000 a month to live there but the amount of taxes the school district gets is still $50,000. I could have every unit rented out or only one rented out. Guess what? My property tax is still $50,000.
-
A Nation built on Immigration
If you are renting, how are you adding to the total amount of property taxes collected? Do apartment complexes only pay property taxes on the units that are occupied or do they pay based on the value of the property?

A Nation built on Immigration
I don't understand what evidence you are looking for. You need evidence that adding people to the US will use more resources? This one is kind of obvious. You need evidence that 45% of the households in the US have a zero or negative income tax? https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/model-estimates/conference-agreement-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-dec-2017/t17-0335-tax-units-zero-or
-
A Nation built on Immigration
I'm concerned because 45% of households pay no income tax, and they will likely be in this group. They will pay sales tax like everyone else, but will they pay property taxes? The property taxes that fund the schools that their children will be attending. When they have these children, are they going to have their own insurance or use Medicaid? We have limited resources right? Or do we just keep printing money?

A Nation built on Immigration
Yes, American citizens will generate tax revenue. But they are going to use these resources now, not when their children are of working age. By this logic, we should let a billion people in every year because their children will generate tax revenue one day. They will spend money and pay sales tax but I have a hard time believing that they will actually pay any income tax. Using H&R Block's calculator, a person making $25,000 a year, with 2 children, and had $2000 withheld, will receive $9,310 back if married, and $7,863 if they are head of household. As soon as they have children, they will be eligible for welfare. Their children will be in public schools. Remember all of the teachers who complain that they are underpaid, work too many hours, and have to spend their own money for supplies for their students? Will they get paid more when students are added to their school? When new teachers have to be hired, is there going to be more money available to the school? What percentage of the new immigrants are going to buy(adding more money to schools through property tax) as opposed to rent(property tax has always been paid by the owner)?
