  1. I don’t think that’s exactly what he meant it directly but either way it shouldn’t be direct in either case. Meaning- Trump is unpopular but what he does to make people’s lives worse is even less popular. The Democrats aren’t popular, but the things people don’t like about them are even less popular. So when Democrats run against Trump, they need to attack their opponents directly and tie them to the outcomes associated with Trump. eg, when Talarico attacks Cornyn he should be saying “John Cornyn and Donald Trump are causing chaos on our streets put a 10% hidden sales tax on everything you buy.“ Likewise, Democrats shouldn’t run against the party, they should run against the party- against the things people hate about the party. Obama and Trump both did this extremely well. Platner does it well too. People hate that Democrats aren’t popular feckless pussies who apologize constantly and chant lists of policies like magic words. So don’t be that guy. Talarico, for example, should stake out authentic, clear and even polarizing outcomes he wants that are aligned to majorities irrespective of whether it’s aligned to party orthodoxy- ie, healthcare for everyone (way beyond Obamacare), legal weed, lower taxes on the middle class class and higher taxes on the very rich. Germane to this topic Democrats can also run against party by going to unfriendly venues and shoving it up their ass, appearing on podcasts like Theo Von, and talking about the economy being rigged against the middle class. Thats how you run against the Democratic Party without sounding like a bitch.
  2. My daughter’s roommate for a couple of years is a Mancunian with an Australian father who attended college in Scotland. Her English is the linguistic equivalent of the first fish that crawled onto the beach.
  3. This is a good take. I really like what Talarico brings to the table, but he needs to do what Andy Bashear has done lately and be like 10% more of an asshole, starting with a full-throated broadside against John Cornyn. Im puzzled by what Crockett is doing. They haven’t really gotten off zero since announcing, and the only evidence of a campaign I’ve seen is her surrogates grousing about Bowen Yang and accusing the Talarico people on social media of not respecting black women or women in general. What I want to see from Crockett is a general audience ad making the case for her to be in the Senate.
  4. The Texas number doesn’t surprise me at all. Texas is not solidly red because Republicans are popular. Texas is solidly red because Texas Democrats don’t put winning first.
  5. See that was his mistake.

  7. A small percentage speak Romansch but the language itself has multiple dialects and idioms from village to village and attempts to standardize the language in order to prevent ultimate extinction have been frustrated by intense and bitter controversy. Great article in the New Yorker about this last month.

  9. Not a majority of builders, realtors or mortgage brokers, apparently.
  10. I just look at him and know that this is a man who has the Pompeii version of “Echoes” playing in his head at all times. Like his favorite cologne is Ozium.
  11. As I may have mentioned, I’ve been to some Trump properties, including Doral. There are fake magazine covers all over the place, esp Time “”Man of the Year.” Champs, the bar and grill at Doral, also features a delicious deconstructed burger called the “Naked Burger.” It’s a patty with pesto sauce in a four corners arrangement with a couple slices of heirloom tomato, arugula, and a whole burrata drizzled in olive oil. I had it 3X in two days and awarded it with the Nobel Prize for Hangover Food.

  16. If you want to go the route of multiple guns: Defensive carry: .357 revolver or Glock 19 9mm (Revolver recommended for less proficient shooters) Defensive home: Remington 870 tactical or Mossberg 590a1 - highly durable and reliable, can double as a club. SHTF: decent quality AR15* chambered in 5.56/.223, with a red dot and binary trigger. If only one gun- a shotgun or revolver. No matter what: if you choose to become a gun owner, you are taking your own life and that of others in your hands. You are therefore obligated to practice regularly, achieve at least basic proficiency, and secure the firearm from theft or unintended use of any kind. If that’s not something you are comfortable with, don’t buy a gun. *I don’t like AR15s. They aren’t the best choice for anything. But in the event of the shit actually hitting the fan, the modularity and configurability of the platform combined with the widespread availability of spare parts trumps the greater reliability and performance of other designs.
  17. Scott Bessent givng the most nonosensical and interview of all time on MTP about this for anyone who likes word salad. EDIT: I'm watching this on delay - it's so much worse in its entirety than the clips. He might as well have been applying clown makeup on national television.

  19. Some combination of redeemable Trump voters and the emergent Red-Brown axis, neither of which exists according to this forum.
  20. Seriously I don’t understand what the end result was. He looks ok to me, just sad and dirty.
