  1. Of course not. Come on man. This is about winning, period. We are in a fight for our literal lives and EVERYTHING Talarico and Crockett does needs to be about winning. How they talk, behave, dress, what they do and what they say. Nothing else matters. They workshopped that line. A room full of people looked at hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of private polling (because even though it’s usually identical to public polling Texas Democrats more or less only exist these days to support bad consultants) and that dumbass line was what they came up with. Everyone who was in that room should be fired. His campaign sucks. It’s boring, milquetoast bullshit. Who the fuck to these candidates and their teams think they are talking to? No wonder they didn’t publicize this debate. Jesus Christ.

  3. Btw I’m wearing this shirt right now.
  4. It is a complete load of shit, and it’s worse than you think. Of course more girls died from common infanticide in the ancient world, as they still do today. What he’s referring to is that some evidence from ancient sites in Britain indicate that boys as well as girls were killed by Celts and Druids in ritual child sacrifice more or less even proportion. And since temple prostitution was a practice in Roman Britain around the same time, and rituals take place in temples, he makes the enormous leap to say that indeed a “tell tale sign” of a brothel was a “pile” of male baby skeletons. Never mind that’s it’s bullshit though, the upshot is appalling. In JD Vance’s telling, the horror is not the death of newborn infants. The horror is that they killed boys.
  5. Amazing that this is happening today and neither the TDP nor the campaigns seem to doing anything to promote it. Their best opportunity to showcase their most important race of this cycle and yet Twitter, IG, PR… nothing until I saw this. Somehow the Democrats again manage to smash through the floor of my lowest expectations.

  8. I’ve found that it’s good to use niche press, business press and local news sources to deprogram these people. Even when the local story is just an AP or network story, it doesn’t carry the taint of “liberal media” when it comes from the Lexington Courier or KBOI-TV Boise. Likewise Financial Times or is better than the New York Times or NPR.
  9. Does he not punctuate?
  10. I think you are missing the point - GenX and Male Zoomers (broadly speaking) didn’t get good parenting or loving family environments when they were growing up. White male privilege is unrelated to what I’m talking about. And by the way, and I can tell you this from growing up GenX in a lower middle class minority-majority environment but going to private school with rich white boys: *in general* the black kids and the Mexicans had FAR more attentive, genuinely loving family and home environments. If I had the choice to be born a wealthy white boy in 1973 like the ones I knew from school or get the chaotic, violent and broke but loving family I got (or my friends families from the neighborhood), I’m going with option B and taking my chances.
  11. You can’t make any political generalizations about “Latinos.” It’s virtually useless as a demographic distinction. As for GenX and male zoomers- chain a puppy up in your back yard. Don’t feed it much, don’t give it much affection, make it spend long periods of time alone punctuated mainly by shock, and make it watch you eat steak while it goes hungry. When it grows up, it’s probably not going to be a good dog.

  15. Jonathan Chait’s record is, uh, mixed:
  16. I can’t spell a lot of thing. But he’ll yeah there’s a reason: he wins. But what’s funny to me is that progressives and media types fall into the same trap as normie Republicans in Kentucky. They look at this white guy who is very popular on a bipartisan basis and say “he’s moderate,” but he’s not. He’s actually got a fairly progressive record, but wins on majoritarian kitchen table issues and puts them first.
  17. I’ve seen Pete B in enough hostile environments to know that’s not true. He’s just congenial, and guts people while smiling at them like Reagan and Clinton. He’s not passive. He is a bit nerdy though. Right now I’m power ranking them 1) G Newsom 2) Bashear 3) Whitmer 4) Shapiro 5) Harris 6) Pete B Nobody else matters right now
  18. Like the rest of Texas worst elected Republican officials he’s not from Texas. What makes him special is that he’s also a bad cop and a moron besides. And he has an identical twin!
  19. I don’t think that’s exactly what he meant it directly but either way it shouldn’t be direct in either case. Meaning- Trump is unpopular but what he does to make people’s lives worse is even less popular. The Democrats aren’t popular, but the things people don’t like about them are even less popular. So when Democrats run against Trump, they need to attack their opponents directly and tie them to the outcomes associated with Trump. eg, when Talarico attacks Cornyn he should be saying “John Cornyn and Donald Trump are causing chaos on our streets put a 10% hidden sales tax on everything you buy.“ Likewise, Democrats shouldn’t run against the party, they should run against the party- against the things people hate about the party. Obama and Trump both did this extremely well. Platner does it well too. People hate that Democrats aren’t popular feckless pussies who apologize constantly and chant lists of policies like magic words. So don’t be that guy. Talarico, for example, should stake out authentic, clear and even polarizing outcomes he wants that are aligned to majorities irrespective of whether it’s aligned to party orthodoxy- ie, healthcare for everyone (way beyond Obamacare), legal weed, lower taxes on the middle class class and higher taxes on the very rich. Germane to this topic Democrats can also run against party by going to unfriendly venues and shoving it up their ass, appearing on podcasts like Theo Von, and talking about the economy being rigged against the middle class. Thats how you run against the Democratic Party without sounding like a bitch.
