EVEN IF you agree that the ICE agent was completely within his legal rights to shoot Renee Good, EVEN IF you agree that he genuinely feared for his life and felt this was his only way to survive, EVEN IF you believe all of that - taking the life of another human SHOULD completely alter your brain chemistry. It should haunt you. It should fill you with guilt. It should have you looking over your shoulder at every turn. Whining that this guy can't just live a normal life after he ended another is infuriating beyond words.
The fact that the list of names reads like a Democrat’s wet dream is what makes this suspicious. Very strong “Tom Hanks drinks the blood of babies with Hillary Clinton” vibes.
The current goal in Texas shouldn't be to convert voters. It should be simply to get them to have the passing thought "eh, it's not the end of the world if the other guy wins." Talarico is the obvious choice in that regard.
She's guilty as hell, no question, but I also feel like focusing on shit like this right now is like pointing out that the kitchen floor needs to be mopped while your entire fucking house is on fire.
Anyone speaking with certainty about what happens after the portal closes on Friday is fooling themselves. Nobody knows what it’s going to look like when thousands of players, many of whom tasted real playing time last year, find themselves homeless. Maybe these players stand firm in their requests, or maybe these kids get spooked and settle for well below their value just to find a landing spot. I think we will look back at whoever best manages this (since we love comparing to the NFL) “undrafted free agent” period as the big winners of this new landscape.
I really hope he keeps this language going because anyone who even remotely interacts with reality knows it’s bullshit. My MAGA parents found out their Christmas lights guy got snatched when he was over a week late to take their lights down. They reached out and got a sad reply from his wife. First time I’ve gotten a “well, I mean I don’t agree with what ICE is doing” from them.
It's exactly the kind of insight you would expect from someone whose entire adult life has consisted of 1) pro athlete and 2) politician. Seriously, those are the only jobs THE FUCKING HUD SECRETARY OF THE UNITED STATES has ever had. (Addendum: he was apparently also something called the Chief Inspiration Officer for a software company, which somehow proves my point even more.)
I know I shouldn't laugh, but Trump's insistence that the Secretary with "Urban" in the title always has to be the token black guy is very funny to me.
Yeah, I mean it will never be as simple as baseball where the big league club is in full control of the "call up" process, but as this all continues to develop, from the agents to the contracts to the expectations of the players, I do think there will definitely be value in partnerships with the lower levels. The situation may never change for the unquestioned breakout stars, but I do think there would definitely be some benefit for the potential fringe guys to have a streamlined potential path to the big show. (The obvious potential downside would be honing in on these guys as potential replacements instead of conducting national searches every year. But I think the JMU-Indiana story will really make people rethink the model and highlights the value in solid evaluations and extended time in a similar system.)
Another logical next step is schools creating a defacto minor league system and aligning with lower division teams for development. Imagine if Sark had a say in the offensive schemes run by Texas State or UTSA and we could essentially "call up" standouts at the end of each season who have spent the last year or two getting playing time in our system but have not yet hit our payroll. I imagine the quality of players willing to consider these schools would increase if there was a "UT could call you up if you stand out" carrot being dangled.
